Pregame notes: “It doesn’t have anything to do with me”

Robinson Cano reacted with predictable indifference when asked about his rather loose connection to Biogenesis as reported in today’s story.

“I know what I’m doing, and I know myself,” Cano said. “So it does not bother me. There’s (not) anything else I can say about it because I don’t even know about the stories. I’m just going to keep playing my game.”

ESPN reported that the name of Sonia Cruz — who Cano confirmed is still the spokeswoman for his foundation — was found in records for Biogenesis. The records show he owing payments of $300, which ESPN reported to be consistent with a weight-loss program offered by the clinic.

It’s a very loose way to tie Cano to the clinic, but obviously the steroid situation is what it is, and even this sort of connection gets attention.

“I’m going to play my game,” Cano said. “I’m going to play it every single day. It doesn’t bother me, and I don’t have any comment about it. … It doesn’t have anything to do with me.”

• Curtis Granderson is with the Yankees today. He did tee and toss earlier today — first time since the broken forearm — and also played catch from 90 feet. He’s still not sure when he’ll get in a game, and certainly not sure when he’ll be in the big leagues. He still expects it to be some time next month. “Everything is feeling good each step that we’ve made,” Granderson said. “The big thing is that whenever I finally start playing, getting at-bats, getting timing and stuff. Once that day comes, we’ll have a little better evaluation.”

• Granderson said he’ll need 50 to 70 at-bats, but he can get a bunch of those by hitting every inning in extended spring training games. “Whenever I get those at-bats, then the number of games should hopefully be a little bit easier to finally get done,” he said.

• Speaking of guys here in Tampa, Joe Girardi went to the minor league complex to watch Michael Pineda pitch in a simulated game. He said it was only five or six hitters, but Girardi seemed impressed. “He threw all his pitches, his fastball, his slider, his changeup,” Girardi said. “He threw strikes he threw some really good strikes. I was happy with what I saw. I know it’s a long ways away, but for the first time in a simulated game, it was pretty good.”

• There was no radar gun on Pineda, but Girardi said he could tell a difference from what he was seeing last spring. “His command was much better,” Girardi said. “The ball was coming out of his hand. He wasn’t forcing it today.”

• Ronnier Mustelier is playing again. Girardi said he played three innings in today’s extended spring game.

• Young reliever Nick Goody — last year’s sixth round pick — had Tommy John surgery, according to Girardi. He was a guy who seemed poised to move quickly. He threw three innings this year.

• Girardi said he simply wanted to give Ichiro Suzuki a day off the turf, and he wanted to get Brennan Boesch some at-bats. He said he’s planning to give Brett Gardner and Vernon Wells each a day off on the turf as well.

How many games will Granderson play in extended spring training? I would assume he would also get into some minor league games. If he is still a couple weeks away from any sort of game action, plus factoring in getting 50 to 70 AB’s, Plus a day of rest here and there, Wouldn’t his return date be closer to mid may? Maybe around the 15th or a little bit later?

Let the river rock you like a cradle
Climb to the treetops, child, if you’re able
Let your hands tie a knot across the table.
Come and touch the things you cannot feel.

And close your fingertips and fly where I can’t hold you
Let the sun-rain fall and let the dewy clouds enfold you
And maybe you can sing to me the words I just told you,
If all the things you feel ain’t what they seem.
And don’t mind me ‘cos I ain’t nothin’ but a dream.

Uh, actually, Robbie, it has something/everything to do with you.

Sonia Cruz is your employee. She works for you thus you pay her to be the spokeswoman for your charity organization which has your name in it.

She is on Biogenesis’ client list. There is speculation or fact that you are on that list. Your pal Melky Cabrera is a PED cheat. You have trained with A-Rod in past offseasons. 2013 is your walk year, a contract year.

You have used her and possibly another/others to buy PEDs. You will not be a Yankee next year and may not be one after July 31.

I say trade Cano for as much as can be got for him as he’s not worth six or more years and $25M or more. The Yanks don’t need a third albatross contract to go along with A-Rod ($114M due A-Rod including this year) and Teixiera ($22.5M minus what the World Baseball Classic will pay this year plus $67.5M for 2014-16.)
