Is this a championship caliber lineup Hal?

  2. Mike in Harrisburg April 25th, 2013 at 4:18 pm

I guess the more Francisco starts, the more chances he has to play himself off the team..

  3. Niblick April 25th, 2013 at 4:19 pm

Why oh why oh why is Francisco on this team?

  4. Against All Odds April 25th, 2013 at 4:19 pm

Odds, I like your version best.

    ——————–

I knew you would YF ;)

  5. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 4:21 pm

    Odds,

  6. pat April 25th, 2013 at 4:21 pm

Guess it’s not just the turf keeping Youk out.

  7. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 4:21 pm

What time is the Jeter presser?

  8. ac1 April 25th, 2013 at 4:22 pm

WOW. Still no Youk and Francisco still batting 2nd.
It is insane to me that Joe thinks he belongs anywhere much less in the 2 hole…
    It is stubbornness.
I can’t stand his explanations either where he insists they are good ABs. He is HITTING .080!!! THEY ARE NOT GOOD ABs.

  9. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 4:22 pm

And so much for predictions Youk would be back on Thursday. Durability is no longer a Yankee trait.

  10. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 4:23 pm

ac1 LD, 20% at NYS. Benny is on the verge, I tell you.

  11. ac1 April 25th, 2013 at 4:24 pm

I find it harder and harder to defend this team to my friends in Baltimore and Boston….

  12. Tabbert April 25th, 2013 at 4:25 pm

Were not facing much a pitcher tonight.. This lineup will score tonight. My biggest beef is the fact that Francisco keeps playing. It would be one thing if joe was throwing the guy in the 9th hole, but to keep starting him in the 2 hole and spot are ridiculous.

  13. ac1 April 25th, 2013 at 4:26 pm

I am also sick of the excuses that we look like this because of injuries.
We have all the pieces we need, we just dont have a GM with balls or a manager with instincts.

  14. ac1 April 25th, 2013 at 4:27 pm

Since they clearly will not bring up Adams, I am left with one question.
    - Could Juan Rivera have possibly been any worse than Francisco is now?

  15. Niblick April 25th, 2013 at 4:28 pm

We’re not missing anything with Youkilis out. He had stopped hitting, going 3 for 28 in his last 7 games. They just need to DL him so they can bring up someone from Scranton.

  16. Tabbert April 25th, 2013 at 4:28 pm

This team is pretty easy to defend. They have been depleted by injuries, but have still managed to play well. In fact… they have overachieved. I think we will most likely go 6-4 on the homestand, but 7-3 is not out of the question. 17-13, or 18-12… that’s pretty solid after 30 games.

  17. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 4:32 pm

Youk was probably playing with the injury for days before he spoke up. This is what happens when you rely on players that bring an injury history to your team, and why people are skeptical, expecting them to get hurt/wear down/tire, no matter how good they have been.

  18. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 4:32 pm

    ac1, probably not.

  19. ac1 April 25th, 2013 at 4:32 pm

    ___

Thats the thing they DONT need to DL him.
They can DFA Francisco who doesnt even play the field and bring up Adams.

  20. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 4:33 pm

    When’s the presser?

  21. Niblick April 25th, 2013 at 4:33 pm

    So where’s Derek?

  22. Niblick April 25th, 2013 at 4:33 pm

Mindless Joe is talking now – no sign of Derek.

  23. ac1 April 25th, 2013 at 4:35 pm

    __

The injury excuse is so lame. I agree for what we are showing, 11-9 is pretty good. I thought it would be something like 8-12 through 20. Had we had those other two games in Cleveland, it would have been 13-9 most likely.

That isnt what i meant. The decisions our GM and Manager make are hard to defend. We are winning in spite of Girardi putting Francisco 2 and 5, or Cashman not bringing up Adams to play 3B forcing Overbay and Nix to play everyday…

  24. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 4:40 pm

On what? Espn radio has Joe Namath on.

  25. J. Alfred Prufrock April 25th, 2013 at 4:42 pm

Namath is so utterly entertaining. I wish he had been like a gentelman OC all these years.

  26. Rich in NJ April 25th, 2013 at 4:44 pm

Yeah, it’s why Youk was worth $5m but not $12m.

  27. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 4:45 pm

    Rich, yep.

  28. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 4:47 pm

    Bryan Hoch ?@BryanHoch 14m
Jeter will address media at 5pm to talk about his ankle injury. And since I was asked this several times, no, it’s not about retirement.

  29. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 4:48 pm

Is this presser live or just via media notes?

  30. Rich in NJ April 25th, 2013 at 4:50 pm

    Sounds like 6 weeks.

  31. jacksquat April 25th, 2013 at 4:52 pm

    F this put hafner in

  32. Shame Spencer April 25th, 2013 at 4:53 pm

Ugh, I’ll miss the presser. I’m sure they’ll recap on the pregame.

We should be able to score runs against the Jays’ pitching no matter who is in the line up.

Are people still predicting the O’s will fall off…? Asking seriously. It’s still very early for everyone but they don’t look like a last place team some predicted just yet.

  33. mick April 25th, 2013 at 4:54 pm

Would he tell a reporter ahead of time if he were retiring?
I wouldn’t be surprised if he did announce , why would he have a presser to report the same thing we already knew?

  34. Rich in NJ April 25th, 2013 at 4:55 pm

    mick

    He’s not retiring.

  35. mick April 25th, 2013 at 4:55 pm

True. Hafner can’t hit against any leftys?

  36. mick April 25th, 2013 at 4:55 pm

    rich-how can you be sure?

  37. charlestonchew April 25th, 2013 at 4:56 pm

Girardi doesn’t have a lot of options, clearly, but it seems as if he’s taking his limited options and putting together the worst lineup possible on a daily basis. Very frustrating to see him manage this team with all its injuries.

    —————

I don’t even understand the conversation… Jeter has a player option for next year and, injured or not, would be dumb not to exercise it. People are just waiting for Jeet to throw in the towel. Ain’t happenin!! ;)

  39. Rich in NJ April 25th, 2013 at 4:56 pm

    Kay had audio from Cashman.

  40. mick April 25th, 2013 at 4:58 pm

    Jeter hates this sh!t….

  41. Niblick April 25th, 2013 at 5:00 pm

Jeter is announcing that Girardi has tested positive for Stupid, that Jeter will take over as manager, and that Francisco is benched.

  42. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 5:00 pm

    What Cash say?

  43. champ809 April 25th, 2013 at 5:03 pm

Girardi strikes again!!! He should be emphasizing Nuney by leaving him in the #2 hole and he should go by his buinder which tells him that skillset aside gardy has clearly been a more comfortable, productive hitter in the #8/9 spot. He’s been terrible as a leadoff hitter in the majors.

    Using this group of players I think the lineup should be as follows;

    Ichiro RF
    Nunez SS
    Cano 2B
    Wells RF
    Overbay 1B
    Velli C
    Nix 3B
    Gardy CF
    Franciscky DH

much better balance and I think both Gardy and Ichiro would be more productive where they’ve been more comfortable as pros.

  44. Tabbert April 25th, 2013 at 5:06 pm

    ac1

” The Yankees didn’t hit well because it was cold outside” – That is a excuse. Pointing out that we have had many injuries which has affected the overall quality of are team is just a flat out fact.

I do agree with you about the GM and the front office. I simply have given up on trying to understand Giardi and his reasoning for anything. You would think this would have been the perfect time to bring in some of these youngsters, right? Apparently not.

  45. Jerkface April 25th, 2013 at 5:08 pm

much better balance and I think both Gardy and Ichiro would be more productive where they’ve been more comfortable as pros.

Gardner has better numbers leading off than batting 9th in this career

  46. austinmac April 25th, 2013 at 5:08 pm

Jeter said a few days ago he would have a press conference. I believe this is simply a status report.

  47. Tabbert April 25th, 2013 at 5:10 pm

Maybe they will announce he is done for the season and he will announce that next year will be his last? That seems like a bit much though. That would be a pretty big distraction to place on the team. Its very weird that they are holding a presser over a injury.

  48. austinmac April 25th, 2013 at 5:12 pm

I don’t know why folks are reading anything into the press conference. He will talk about how he believes it was re-fractured, time in the boot, rehab after blah, blah.

  49. yankeefeminista April 25th, 2013 at 5:13 pm

    Austinmac, exactly.

  50. astrocityfan April 25th, 2013 at 5:16 pm

this lineup is beyond frustrating. other than my anger i cant really add anything to the conversation though. So carry on as you were :)

  51. champ809 April 25th, 2013 at 5:24 pm

    Jerk

His #’s leading off and hitting 9th are almost identical and terrible….however hitting 7th or 8th he’s a stud!

Notice I have him hitting 8th in my suggested lineup…

  52. jacksquat April 25th, 2013 at 5:25 pm

7th and 8th are sss and probably a fluke

  53. champ809 April 25th, 2013 at 5:34 pm

    Jacksquat

    his 7th and 8th #’s total 375 pa’s or 300+ ABs which is about half a season…nothing flukey about ‘em…

  54. fantasygame101 April 25th, 2013 at 5:37 pm

Ben francicsco should bat 9th if they insist on putting him on the lineup. What was wrong with nunez batting second the last time he did?

  55. Jerkface April 25th, 2013 at 5:39 pm

    his 7th and 8th #’s total 375 pa’s or 300+ ABs which is about half a season…nothing flukey about ‘em…

They are flukey because Gardner rarely played there regularly, so you have ‘half a season’ worth of AB that took place, collectively, in tiny segments across his entire career.

  56. jacksquat April 25th, 2013 at 5:42 pm

Has to be a fluke, there is no reason for Gardner to all of sudden hit like an MVP because he is hitting 7/8, unless he has some really weird mental condition.

  57. Pat M. April 25th, 2013 at 5:42 pm

I’ve tried hard to like Brett Gardner, however for me there just isn’t enough there …..GB thought Gardner had a similar skill set to Brett Butler which I thought was a real good call…. I just see him as a 4th outfielder type guy.

I agree 100%. There is little that I find in Gardner’s production that I find redeeming. He has poor instincts and will never be a consistent producer.. Package him and move him. I’ve been saying this for 3 years…

  59. MTU April 25th, 2013 at 5:59 pm

    Pat M.-

You’re welcome on the Nuno stuff from the other day.

I was hoping GGBG would break out this season and bat around .300 w. 50 or so swipes.

I looked at his career #’s the other day and his BA. is right around .265.

Not quite sure why I was so optimistic.

  60. Rich in NJ April 25th, 2013 at 6:00 pm

I wouldn’t judge anyone at this point based on 3+ weeks, positively or negatively. When healthy, Gardner has been a very good player.

  61. MTU April 25th, 2013 at 6:01 pm

    Mac-

The only thing I’m interesting in hearing from Jeter is that he has decided to purchase the Yankees from Hal.

    :)
