Nuno is not on 40-man. How are they making room, Brad?

  2. CountryClub April 27th, 2013 at 12:46 pm

Phelps threw 77 pitches last night so he could throw 90+ in his next appearance. You generally want someone to be able to throw 100, but 90+ is close enough.

My guess is that Nuno will get the start if they don’t need him out of the pen between now and then. Something tells me they’d like to keep Phelps in his current role.

Probably Jeter to the 60 day DL

    see how long this last

  5. Nilsson April 27th, 2013 at 12:50 pm

Yeah, Phelps deserves his chance right now. It sucks that Nova went down, but Phelps has to take this opportunity and run with it.

Nuno is a sleeper prospect. I’m eager to see him face major league hitters.

Youk back in the Lineup. Pun intended :)

  7. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 27th, 2013 at 12:53 pm

Interesting how players people have wanted to see finally make their way to the roster. Nobody wants to see guys go down hurt. But hopefully we get to see Phelps as a starter and we get to see Romine work. Those things are very good.

I have to wonder if Nova was ever truly healed. Doesn’t this sound like same place he got hurt before?

  8. blake April 27th, 2013 at 12:53 pm

Well bless your heart (and hairy back) youk

  9. CountryClub April 27th, 2013 at 12:55 pm

Nuno isn’t a reliever though. It would make no sense to bring him up unless he’s going to start. Or they may just want him to fill the long man role for a few days and then maybe they send him back down and call up a 1 inning type guy.

  10. CountryClub April 27th, 2013 at 12:57 pm

    Trisha,

No they’re saying this is a triceps injury. His injury in last yr’s playoffs was a forearm strain.

  11. yankeefeminista April 27th, 2013 at 12:58 pm

Maine, answered you in the last thread.

I can’t imagine them starting Nuno over Phelps.

  12. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 27th, 2013 at 12:59 pm

Thanks CC. That makes me feel a little bit better. Do we know anything about triceps injuries in terms of healing etc.

  13. RadioKev April 27th, 2013 at 1:00 pm

Time to throw Francisco into the garbage bin. I’d rather see Hafner make the outs against lefties.

  14. 86w183 April 27th, 2013 at 1:00 pm

I think CountryClub is right…. Nuno is long man if needed today/tomorrow or he goes back and Eppley or Montgomery comes up w/ Phelps to the rotation.

Getting Youkilis “back” sure makes the lineup versus LHP look a little better. Hafner DH instead of Francisco might be a sign that he’s gone any day now.

  15. CountryClub April 27th, 2013 at 1:04 pm

Chad just tweeted that Phelps is going to the rotation.

  16. yankeefeminista April 27th, 2013 at 1:09 pm

Yep, make sense that Phelps would go to SP.

Good to see Youk back, but let’s just hope he is well enough that his back doesn’t affect his play/future availability.

  17. yankeefeminista April 27th, 2013 at 1:09 pm

    *makes sense

  18. Cashmoney April 27th, 2013 at 1:10 pm

Yanks were operating with Phelps and Warren, Now it’s Nuno and Warren.

    Sorry you lost your Godfather.

If it’s any consolation their is a new MaineYankee grandaughter to take his place as a fan.

  20. MG April 27th, 2013 at 1:11 pm

it’s fair for Phelps to move into the rotation, I just hope they don’t leave Nuno in the bullpen for anything more than a cup of coffee in the bigs..

  21. Cashmoney April 27th, 2013 at 1:11 pm

assuming Warren is still the garbage garbage man as suggested by Chad.

  22. MG April 27th, 2013 at 1:12 pm

I could see the Yankees keeping Nuno in the ‘pen for a week until Rapada is eligible to return so they have two lefties out there from now on…

  23. austinmac April 27th, 2013 at 1:12 pm

    Any word on Nova’s MRI?

  24. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 27th, 2013 at 1:13 pm

MaineYankee – thank you so much for that, and congratulations!!!!! That news made me smile happily. :)

Phelps to the rotation. Nuno to the bullpen. Jeter to the 60 day. Nova has triceps inflammation. Youkilis still needs to take BP. #yankees
    ___
So, triceps inflammation isn’t too bad. If Youk doesn’t feel good in BP, he still may not play…

Really happy to hear about Phelps.

Just saw Youk on a Jack Curry show, amazing resemblance to John Candy, thinner version of course! ;)

    Congrats on the granddaughter, Maine!

  32. Captain Clutch April 27th, 2013 at 1:17 pm

It’s amazing that Hafner is allowed to face a lefty. I wonder if Cashman told Girardi to play him or if Girardi just finally woke up.

Thanks. Now Mrs. Maine has two grandaughters to spoil. :D :

I think one problem Whitehead had was being the one to follow Walsh.

  35. MTU April 27th, 2013 at 1:28 pm

I’m glad Phelps is getting another shot to start even if it has to be this way.

    He’s earned it.

Is Nuno taking Phelp’s role or Warren’s ? That’s not clear.

Triceps inflammation for Nova ? Sounds like he’ll miss at least a few starts.

    Glad it’s not the elbow.

Rest and a cortisone shot. Then some rehab.

    Now it’s Nuno’s turn to be a yo-yo.

  36. MTU April 27th, 2013 at 1:29 pm

    Congrats Maine.

    Sorry for your loss Trisha.

    And good luck Austin.

Make the most of this rare opportunity.

    :)

  39. mick April 27th, 2013 at 1:36 pm

chances are if they need phelps before his start? next Wed. then Nuno gets the start IMO

what are the chances they need phelps again before his next start seeing he would need 3-4 days rest anyway and Andy Kuroda and Hughes wont need help vs Hous…nuno could sit all week unless they want to test him vs a lefty

  40. Tar April 27th, 2013 at 1:42 pm

Maybe a blessing In disguise for Nova. Nothing serious and gives him time to get his head and mechanics together.

I’m a Nova fan, I hope this adversity creates the opportunity to get where he needs to be.

  41. MTU April 27th, 2013 at 1:42 pm

Nuno was on a regular starter’s schedule.

    And now ?

Should have grabbed a less valuable piece to fill in.

I think the Yankees need to be more consistent with the way they handle guys.

CMW would make a perfect fill-in as does Warren.

Perhaps it’s as you say, to get a brief look at Nuno vs. some ML hitters.

  42. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 27th, 2013 at 1:44 pm

Thank you to everyone, and also from before. The caring is always so appreciated.

One thing I want to share is that it is the first military funeral I had every attended and their presentation is an extremely emotional experience. Very beautifully done but emotionally draining at the same time. Just driving through the cemetery and seeing all of the war memorials filled me with such appreciation for our armed services.

  43. MTU April 27th, 2013 at 1:44 pm

    Tar-

If it’s triceps tendonitis it’s serious enough.

It’s better than needing TJS though.

  44. MTU April 27th, 2013 at 1:52 pm

Yankees finally getting smart putting Youkilis at 1b.

That’s where he should have been from the start.

He’s more likely to hold up over there than at 3rd.

Not only that. He’s a better 1b guy than he is a 3b at this point in his career.

  45. austinmac April 27th, 2013 at 1:54 pm

    Trisha,

I missed the news about your loss. Very sorry. There is so much loss in life it makes it even more important to find joy in our daily lives. You seem to do that well.

  46. 86w183 April 27th, 2013 at 2:07 pm

I think the plan was to have Youkilis at 1B versus LHP w/Nix at 3B and Youkilis @ 3B versus RHP with Overbay at 1B. That’s probably the best option at this time.

Let me add my sympathies, Trisha….. nothing worst than losing someone you love. My father-in-Law was a veteran of WWII and his funeral (w/milltary honors) was at the same time sad and inspirational. It seems you had a similar experience.

Maine — enjoy being a Grandpa…. I’m not there yet, but could be soon.

  47. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 27th, 2013 at 2:08 pm

Austin, thank you. I do try, and most of the time I think I’m successful. Of course I could feel even more joy if the Sux started losing! Not thrilled that their pitching seems to be holding up. Grr!

  48. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 27th, 2013 at 2:13 pm

86w183, thank you so much. My godparents (along with my grandfather) are the people who introduced me to Yankee Stadium and took me there all the time, so his loss had that added significance for me. Between that and the emotion of the military funeral I’m pretty well spent! Looking forward to getting back into the swing of Yankee baseball.

  49. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 27th, 2013 at 2:16 pm

I think I’ll enjoy the beautiful day until it’s time for baseball. I’m having an almost impossible time wrapping my head around the injuries our club continues to sustain!

    See you all later.

    :)
