Girardi waiting on lineup; Youkilis likely out

Posted by: vmercogliano - Posted in Misc on Apr 28, 2013 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Vin Mercogliano here from Yankee Stadium, and although it’s already 11:15 a.m., Joe Girardi has still yet to post today’s lineup. In his pregame press conference moments ago, Girardi said he’s waiting because he wants to check on Kevin Youkilis, but all indications are that he is out. It sounds like the back is acting up again, which I’ll have more on in my pregame notes.

As soon as I see a lineup, I’ll tweet it out. Follow me on Twitter @vzmercogliano.

Youkilis is becoming a real liability now. Fear his back issue could be going on for most of the season.

It’s really time to make a move. Call up Adams or Musty and drop Francisco. Musty would be my first choice because he is more versatile, but he hasn’t received many at bats since spring. Adams is raking..

  3. blake April 28th, 2013 at 11:27 am

DL him already and get it right ….

  4. Captain Clutch April 28th, 2013 at 11:29 am

They should put Youk on the DL and call up Adams. It seems like this is going to be something that Youk has off and on all season. They can’t have Overbay playing everyday especially against lefties. It seems like they are just delaying the inevitable with him.

  5. bruceb April 28th, 2013 at 11:30 am

Sure as hell don’t want to be facing a knuckleballer with a bad back either.

  6. blake April 28th, 2013 at 11:30 am

Yea i agree….DL him and call up Adams….release Francisco to make 40 man room

The SWB infield’s going to collapse without Adams but he really needs to come up now.

It’s flippin’ April and Youkilis’ bad back is already the problem is was obviously gonna be – especially if he’s trying to play 3B.

Did anybody not named Cashman not see this coming?

    JAP,

Not overly concerned about SWB’s infield suffering and it can be a great opportunity for someone fron Trenton to step up.

    JAP
Here is to hoping that a youth movement will win the day.
Youkilis to the DL- All hail the band aid brigade!

  11. J. Alfred Prufrock April 28th, 2013 at 11:44 am

    Hey tbone,

Obviously, I’m not that concerned about it either, as I’ve been pushing for Adams to be promoted like forever. It’s called irony ;) .

  12. Captain Clutch April 28th, 2013 at 11:46 am

Youk missed time because of his back the last 2 years. So it’s nothing new with him. Boesch is in RF today…hopefully he can field the ball with no errors.

  13. J. Alfred Prufrock April 28th, 2013 at 11:46 am

    Mad,

Let’s hope so. Really, is it such a stretch for these guys to see the solution sitting under their nose? We’re gonna find out.

  14. tucker April 28th, 2013 at 11:50 am

Does Romine get the start today? I think probably so. Stewie caught a day after night game yesterday.

  15. blake April 28th, 2013 at 11:50 am

@KenDavidoff: Yankees lineup: Ichiro CF, Cano 2B, Wells LF, Hafner DH, Boesch RF, Nix 3B, Overbay 1B, Nunez SS, Stewart C

    No Romine?

  16. blake April 28th, 2013 at 11:51 am

My guess is Joe probably doesn’t want to throw Austin in there against the knuckle ball in his first game

  17. Captain Clutch April 28th, 2013 at 11:53 am

Girardi probably wants Stewart to work with Hughes and let Romine work with the veterans. It makes sense to start like that. But Stewart has been really bad behind the plate recently.

  18. Madrugador April 28th, 2013 at 11:54 am

Romine is a young guy and he has already shown us his bad back.
Bad back and major league catching will not be successful long term. It would be great if Romine was the next great Yankee catcher but I would put more of my money on Murphy or Sanchez.
Have a great game and a great day everyone.

  19. Jesus Bustero April 28th, 2013 at 11:54 am

Please just trade for Chase Headley already. I can’t believe reports are they didn’t inquire on him over the winter. Look into Rendon or Zimmerman too. Please, for the love of God. Even if/when Youk returns, he needs to be at 1B or DH

  20. tucker April 28th, 2013 at 11:59 am

Don’t expect a lot from Romine. If he can play defense and hit 230 or 240 with the occasional double, he will be Stewie’s equivalent.

  21. Jesus Bustero April 28th, 2013 at 12:02 pm

Rendon, Olt, Castellanos might work better because you can groom them at MLB and tuck them away in AAA if everyone is healthy (Youk, Haf, Tex, Arod).

They need more depth at 3B.

I could see them bringing in someone like Placido Polanco though. Polanco fits the mold of a the new culture and he’s versatile enough to start or move to the bench if everyone is healthy.

“Rendon, Olt, Castellanos might work better because you can groom them at MLB and tuck them away in AAA if everyone is healthy (Youk, Haf, Tex, Arod).”

I’m not sure they’d trade Rendon now….Laroche is only signed through next year and Zimmerman can’t throw anymore….Olt is very available Id think

  23. Jesus Bustero April 28th, 2013 at 12:04 pm

In addition to Placido Polanco, I can also see them targeting Michael Young. He’s another guy who fits the new culture. That guy is a tough out.

  24. Benny Blanco April 28th, 2013 at 12:24 pm

Hamilton is batting .228 with 2 hrs?

  25. comnsnse April 28th, 2013 at 1:11 pm

    Bustero, Polanco, Young new culture?

You meant old culture correct? You can not be serious!

Unless you’re working for “Hal the Penurious” and getting a commission! ;)

If you’d like to keep it simple, flip-flops can be found at nearly any store including JCPenneys, Kohl’s, Target, Walmart, American Eagle, and more. I purchased a pair of Crocs flip-flops last year and they have been the best pair of sandals I’ve ever owned. I wore them on my vacation to Yellowstone National Park and they make it through all the hiking, sight-seeing, and were easy to slip on and off when I wanted to..

Once you have owned a real coach handbag, you will never accept the poor quality of High Quality coach purses.
