Nunez is due for an upward correction.

  2. blake April 29th, 2013 at 3:43 pm

    What a lineup

  3. Vince April 29th, 2013 at 3:45 pm

This looks like a spring SS lineup.

Which means we’re right on par with the everyday Astros lineup. Time to win!

  4. bruceb April 29th, 2013 at 3:47 pm

Just as well it’s the Astros. Hopefully the rain stays away, Andy is his usual self and we put up just enough runs to win the game. No wonder Mo already has more saves this April than ever before. No blowouts with this lineup.

  5. yankeefeminista April 29th, 2013 at 3:49 pm

Romine with Andy makes sense. Is it raining in the Bronx?

    Scary 5-7…

    Rich, agree about Nunez.

  6. jackamir April 29th, 2013 at 3:50 pm

If you take Cano out it becomes a lineup of No Names and Hasbeens… I like it; They are scrappy…..

  7. Shame Spencer April 29th, 2013 at 3:50 pm

I am going to have fun seeing how Nick and luis’ bet plays out…

    2:1 Stewie thus far, right?

  8. mick April 29th, 2013 at 3:51 pm

DL Youk , release Francisco, call up Adams
    ==========================
room for one more callup? Musty?

  9. mick April 29th, 2013 at 3:52 pm

what are the results of the Youk mri? anybody?

  10. trisha - true pinstriped blue April 29th, 2013 at 3:53 pm

“Trisha, speaking of R.I. have you read either of Bruce DeSilva’s novels, fiction based on real life characters around Providence.

He is a former reporter of the Providence Journal? terrific reads.”

Have not but I will definitely do it. It will be fun to identify the characters. Thanks! :)

Drat, I’m really torn. I had decided not to watch the Astros series because one of my “sensitivities” is that I cannot stand to watch some of the less-strong teams get beat up on, and after the Astros were swept by the Sux, I know watching them get hurt by the Yanks will bother me. Sorry but I’m just odd that way (yes I know, one way of many.)

So here’s my conundrum. I really want to watch Romine play. And Phelps get his first start! Maybe I’ll catch a little of each game and then call it quits.

HOWEVER – I will definitely be rooting for the Sux to lose their next two games anyway. I heard that one more win for them this month and they will set the ML record for wins in April. That MUST not happen!

  11. Grant April 29th, 2013 at 3:53 pm

Come on Romine, show us something please.

  12. yankeefeminista April 29th, 2013 at 3:53 pm

I just hope they don’t pull a Russell Martin by continuing not to DL Youk, keeping the bench short.

  13. mick April 29th, 2013 at 3:53 pm

    Sweeny Murti ? @YankeesWFAN 1m

Youkilis (back) had MRI today. Waiting for results.
    ==========
    OK.

  14. Nick in SF April 29th, 2013 at 3:55 pm

    “2:1 Stewie thus far, right?”

No, 0-0. Tally starts ticking 2 weeks from call-up day, which was Saturday.

  15. bruceb April 29th, 2013 at 3:56 pm

Jays already 9.5 games back of Boston. I know it’s only April but do you think we can call this a “must win” series for them?

  16. Shame Spencer April 29th, 2013 at 3:57 pm

Youk said he didn’t think it was anything serious but wouldn’t speculate on the MRI results…. ugh.

  17. Shame Spencer April 29th, 2013 at 3:58 pm

Nick in SF April 29th, 2013 at 3:55 pm

    “2:1 Stewie thus far, right?”

No, 0-0. Tally starts ticking 2 weeks from call-up day, which was Saturday.

    Oh, tricky tricky…

  18. mick April 29th, 2013 at 3:59 pm

If they DL Youk, which seems inevitable, why not call up Adams and Musty?
Against a lefty they can both play, 3B and DH.
    Nix needs a rest.

  19. Rich in NJ April 29th, 2013 at 4:00 pm

I wouldn’t be surprised if Youk’s MRI doesn’t provide a clear answer. It may just continue to be a question of how much pain/soreness he can tolerate.

  20. jackamir April 29th, 2013 at 4:01 pm

“Sweaty Freddie Garcia” is IL Pitcher of the week….

  21. mick April 29th, 2013 at 4:04 pm

Releasing Francisco, DLing Youk and calling up those 2 guys makes too much sense…

  22. Carly April 29th, 2013 at 4:05 pm

Too bad Neal was injured :(

  23. Rich in NJ April 29th, 2013 at 4:06 pm

Yeah, that’s why AAA stats are sometimes don’t provide as good a read of a prospect’s true talent as AA stats. Aging veterans who are hanging on can skew things.

  24. Carly April 29th, 2013 at 4:06 pm

    Jack Curry ? @JackCurryYES
Romine on catching Pettitte and making 2013 debut w Yankees: “tonight is huge for me.” Said he’s “excited to take hold of this opportunity.”

Best wishes and good luck Romine :)

  25. justinxdance27 April 29th, 2013 at 4:09 pm

Headed out to the RailRiders doubleheader tonight here in Charlotte. Bootcheck then Stoneburner

  26. Shame Spencer April 29th, 2013 at 4:09 pm

    Omg, Mike Francesa…… I can’t.

Sometimes I think there’s no way Francesa could be more ridiculous. I’m wrong every time!

  27. GoldGlove9486 April 29th, 2013 at 4:09 pm

Would love to call up Musty, but is he even playing at all?

  28. mick April 29th, 2013 at 4:09 pm

    blake April 29th, 2013 at 3:35 pm

DL Youk , release Francisco, call up Adams
    ============================
This opens 2 spots. Musty must!

  30. GoldGlove9486 April 29th, 2013 at 4:10 pm

Can anyone confirm if Musty is healthy? Don’t see him on the SWB roster/stat list.

  31. Nick in SF April 29th, 2013 at 4:12 pm

I think we can confirm that Musty has yet to play a game with SWB yet, so more deep breaths can be taken before hoping to see him in the Bronx.

  32. justinxdance27 April 29th, 2013 at 4:12 pm

Last I heard, he had played in a extended spring game is all

  33. Rich in NJ April 29th, 2013 at 4:14 pm

I don”t think Musty really exists.

  34. jackamir April 29th, 2013 at 4:15 pm

Francesa is a bag of hot air. He actually believes what he spews…He has his favorites and scorns the rest…

It’s supposed to actually be Betances in the first game. Stoneburner and Wang tomorrow, I believe. Would love a report.

  36. Carly April 29th, 2013 at 4:15 pm

•26-year-old Yankees righty Phil Hughes posted his third consecutive quality start yesterday against the Blue Jays. Hughes, who turns 27 in June, projects to be the youngest established free agent starter after this season. One alternative for teams that prefer young starting pitchers is South Korea’s Suk-min Yoon, a Scott Boras client who was born a month after Hughes and will be eligible for free agency after the season.

    Don’t know much about Yoon.

  37. ac1 April 29th, 2013 at 4:16 pm

DL Youk , release Francisco, call up Adams
    ____

Only problem with above is that i think they won’t dfa benF until Grandy comes back meaning no room for Adams. The only other option is to 60 day Cervelli but like with Tex, there is no guarantee he will be out that long. Also, Cervelli won’t clear waivers this time. People have seen he can hit and catch, so they cannot drop him from the 40…..

That only opens 1 spot. Youk to the dl doesns’t create room on the 40 man roster

  39. mick April 29th, 2013 at 4:26 pm

What did Fransayso say that has you up in arms?

  40. Carly April 29th, 2013 at 4:26 pm

Though the 2013 draft isn’t the strongest—which, should be noted, seems to be the common refrain most years—I see plenty of players who would be first-rounders in any year. As discussed above, Appel and Gray have set themselves apart from the rest of the group. They fall in the middle range of typical No. 1 overall selections.

After Appel and Gray, I have no problem coming up with 22 more easy first-round talents. Nine of them are high school position players (Clint Frazier, Austin Meadows, Reese McGuire, J.P. Crawford, Jonathan Denney, Dominic Smith, Billy McKinney, Ryan Boldt, Nick Ciuffo), and the group also includes five college bats (Kris Bryant, Colin Moran, D.J. Peterson, Hunter Renfroe, Phillip Ervin), four college pitchers (Sean Manaea, Ryne Stanek, Braden Shipley, Chris Anderson) and four prep arms (Kohl Stewart, Trey Ball, Ian Clarkin, Hunter Harvey).

That takes me three-quarters of the way through the first round, and at the bottom of the round, teams have widely differing opinions on players. It’s not hard to fall in love with the tools of college outfielders Austin Wilson, Aaron Judge and Michael Lorenzen. I have some reservations about their hitting ability, but they certainly are “true first-rounders” for at least a few major league clubs.

Ditto for a deep pool of lefthanders among both the collegians (Marco Gonzales, Tom Windle, Kevin Ziomek) and high schoolers (Rob Kaminsky, Matt Krook). Quality southpaw starters are difficult to find, so all of them could be legitimate first-round picks.

I’ll draw my line at 24 no-doubt first-rounders. But if I wanted to be slightly more liberal, I easily could find enough to cover all 33 actual first-round selections.

Hopefully the Yanks snag a few

  41. mick April 29th, 2013 at 4:29 pm

Playing Nix everyday was not meant to be. Although right now we have no other answer at 3rd.
If Musty isn’t ready bring up Adams. It seems inevitable as Youk can’t play 3rd even if not DLed.

  42. mick April 29th, 2013 at 4:31 pm

If Nix gets hurt we then need a 3B and a utilityman.

  43. MTU April 29th, 2013 at 4:39 pm

    Mick-

Nix greatest value is that he is the BU ss.

Adams can play 2b/3b but he can’t do ss.

You have to have a BU ss.

  44. ac1 April 29th, 2013 at 4:40 pm

Adams can play 2b/3b but he can’t do ss.
    __

Apparently they are ok having Cano play ss in a bind.

  46. MTU April 29th, 2013 at 4:43 pm

What if Nunez gets hit on the wrist again ?

They are not going to let Cano play ss for more than a day or so.

It was a rare circumstance and not something they would do for any extended period of time.

W/o a viable bu ss your pants are down.

  47. Rich in NJ April 29th, 2013 at 4:44 pm

    MTU

The problem is that Nix doesn’t play SS very well.

  48. MTU April 29th, 2013 at 4:47 pm

    Rich-

Maybe so.He’s the worst ss they have except for all the rest.

    ;)

  49. MTU April 29th, 2013 at 4:48 pm

too bad Ronnier is not a SS.

He’d be up in a heartbeat.

  53. tomingeorgia April 29th, 2013 at 5:05 pm

    Mister MTU,
The four Texas ladies left today after four days. 16 double rolls of toilet paper, 20 bananas, five pounds of grapes, 1 1/2 gallons of orange juice, three pounds of coffee, and seven(!)! kitchen trash bags full of bottles, fast food wrappers, and other stuff. I’d say they were well fed and well wiped.

Gulp. If they postpone this game they may not pitch De Paula in NJ at all. I will be one of many who will suffer greatly if that happens. I think Norris intended to attend and shoot video too. Please play this game.
