The Yankees have put Kevin Youkilis on the 15-day DL with a lumbar spine sprain. They have called up infielder Corban Joseph from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre where he was batting .273 with four homers and nine RBI in 22 games.

If CoJo is here, then he should start at 3B vs. righties ASAP. – though 3b isnt his best position.
In fact i would play Nix at SS and let Nunez get a day off to not overthink the hitting issues.
Still prefer Adams but any chance to see a prospect is ok with me.

However i still dont get the logic behind bringing up someone who has not played well at 3b in limited chances.

it was nice to see nuno battle through his first major league game last night. he started out shaky but got he feet under him and did well.

  3. blake April 30th, 2013 at 3:21 pm

I guess they are gonna platoon Nix and CoJo at 3B and hope nobody hits balls to 3B vs RHP……its’ either that or he’s gonna play some 1B.

They obviously didn’t want to let anybody go to make room on the 40 man for Adams I guess…..

  4. Rich in NJ April 30th, 2013 at 3:24 pm

This is an incremental positive; I hope he makes the most of this opportunity. As I said on the other thread, Adams should be brought up as well, because Francisco is proving that he isn’t good or even decent.

Cojo’s pretty bad at 3B. Thinking they play him at 1B but we’ll see.

  7. Rich in NJ April 30th, 2013 at 3:25 pm

Nix is not a good defensive SS and Nunez is playing well defensively. I would stick with him.

  8. DONNYBROOK April 30th, 2013 at 3:25 pm

As I said, 60 Day TEX, and open up a roster spot. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hal is getting insurance $$$ for A-Rod also, maybe even Jeet. Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce the New York Afflack’s. You are already famaliar with the mascot.

  9. Ys Guy April 30th, 2013 at 3:26 pm

nick was the lohud supposed to call youk a liar when they printed that quote?

  10. blake April 30th, 2013 at 3:26 pm

CoJo will probably play bench more than anything to be honest.

  11. Jerkface April 30th, 2013 at 3:27 pm

The Yankees roster mismanagement looms large.

  12. DONNYBROOK April 30th, 2013 at 3:29 pm

Bet Hal’s got the Mrs’s insured to the hilt. Hope she’s seen, “Double Indemnity”.

“nick was the lohud supposed to call youk a liar when they printed that quote?”

Don’t really understand your point, but I was just appreciating the unintentional irony — the dissonance, if you will — of the news in this thread with LoHud’s random YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN-generated headline.

    Miracle Cure Lineup: Gardner 8, Suzuki 7, Cano 4, Hafner DH, Boesch 9, Nix 5, Overbay 3, Nunez 6, Stewart 2, Kuroda 1. #yankees

  15. Jetrer April 30th, 2013 at 3:32 pm

Has there been any word on whether Adams is even eligible to be recalled at this point?
It appears he may not be eligible until May 15. Not sure about that though.

  16. blake April 30th, 2013 at 3:32 pm

grab some pine CoJo….you’ll be backing up Nixy and Overybayie.

  17. Rich in NJ April 30th, 2013 at 3:32 pm

Wait. Romine’s has played one game out of three? That’s absurd.

  18. Rich in NJ April 30th, 2013 at 3:33 pm

    Actually, four games.

  20. DCYankee April 30th, 2013 at 3:36 pm

Given the oppty the Yankees must let the young guys try in the big leagues. Can’t live on Geritol using old guys forever. Let the kids play!!

  21. pat April 30th, 2013 at 3:37 pm

    JoeAuriemmaYES
David Adams is not on the 40 and because he was released before the season he’s not eligible until May 15 anyway

  22. Sir Harden Thick April 30th, 2013 at 3:37 pm

What’s up with Wells? Was taken out yesterday, now not in there today.

  23. Rich in NJ April 30th, 2013 at 3:37 pm

    Thanks pat. Good call, Jetrer.

  24. blake April 30th, 2013 at 3:37 pm

    Jack Curry ?@JackCurryYES 2m
Joseph was recalled because he is on 40 man and plays multiple positions. Adams wasn’t on 40 and couldn’t be recalled until May 15 anyway.

    ah……

“randy I disagree, Montero is off to a dreadful start. .206/.250/.317

He also had a terrible season in 2012.

I’m not saying he’s a bust (yet) but it’s not looking good right now”

    patrick-

you’re a reasonable and knowledgeable guy.

he was 22 last year and hit 15 homers and had 62 rbis

jr murphy is a guy i like a lot. i expect him to be catching for the yankees in the near future.

murphy is 22 and in double a. think about that. he’s a prospect and he’s montero’s age and he’s in double a.

age really matters for these guys. montero had an invaluable year last year. all kinds of positives were accomplished. it’s not just numbers .

ask yankee feminista about age and development.
i really think most on this blog just don’t get it how important even one year is to a young player in their development.

  26. DONNYBROOK April 30th, 2013 at 3:38 pm

$200 Mill payroll, and your Not calling up the Best player because you have butchered the 40 Man Roster. Cashman should be Canned at the end of his contract.

  27. pat April 30th, 2013 at 3:40 pm

    DavidWaldstein
Girardi said yesterday he had no second thoughts playing Youkilis Saturday. Today Brian Cashman said it was a mistake by everyone involved.

  28. Patrick April 30th, 2013 at 3:41 pm

    repost:

    randy,

I’m not saying he’s a bust or anything but his results since going to Seattle have been really underwhelming. Regardless of age, he’s not hitting as well as most fans and experts thought he would.

15 homers is pretty mediocre. He hit .260/.298/.386 which is basically Chris Stewart levels of production. Not exactly what people would expect from a prospect compared to Frank Thomas or Miguel Cabrera

  29. Sir Harden Thick April 30th, 2013 at 3:42 pm

Now Cashman says Joseph is a right side of the infield player.
So no backup for Nix. Nix can not play everyday

  30. DCYankee April 30th, 2013 at 3:42 pm

Just how bad a signing is Youk going to turn out to be. He had been hurt the last 2/3 years and no chance to play 100 games and he gets 10 million.

  31. Ys Guy April 30th, 2013 at 3:44 pm

    cervelli > montero

    patrick -

    you’re not most fans.

i’m really serious. the age thing is huge. montero is progressing. he’s moving along. it;s called paying your dues. he’s paying them.

i saw frank thomas as a cape league player up close and then in sarasota when i was there when he was with the white sox. it never occurred to me that montero would hit like frank thomas. thomas was a man among kids in the cape league.

montero is a catcher. he doesn’t have to hit like frank thomas.
we’re still talking about montero because he’s actually playing , and will be for a really long time.
he’ll likely still be playing when you’re pushing 40 :)
