Lyle Overbay, Jayson Nix

Through three games in Colorado, the Yankees scored a total of six runs. Tonight, they surged past that number before the end of the sixth inning. An 11-6 win against the Royals matched the Yankees second highest scoring game of the year. It was the first time in a month that they reached double digit runs. Lyle Overbay had five RBI on four hits, including his sixth home run. Ichiro Suzuki also homered (and doubled, and singled, and stole a base), Jayson Nix reached base four times and Brett Gardner had a pair of extra-base hits. Phil Hughes allowed six runs through 5.2 innings, a bad start after four good ones. He hadn’t allowed  home run in his past three starts, but he allowed two tonight. With the bullpen thin, Shawn Kelley delivered 2.1 scoreless innings, including six strikeouts.
