On Overbay… I definitely think they should use risk of injury as an excuse to keep Overbay on the roster when Tex returns from his wrist thing.

Platoon Tex and justify it with risk of injury.

Wow, Cojo playing first. I guess that’s the safest place on the diamond for him, but the bat is sweet.

    I like.

  3. blake May 13th, 2013 at 10:19 am

    CoJo!

We both know there is like 0% chance Tex won’t play every day…..however I’m not sure he will even be back this year

  5. Jesus Bustero May 13th, 2013 at 10:24 am

I’m not so sure, Blake. Overbay is a battle-tested veteran. It’s not like Tex is coming back to replace an unproven rookie. It’s a different situation. You can’t just option Overbay to AAA or salvage fair value in a trade. He’s on pace for 90 RBI with smooth defense.

    ____

Only issue is the 25 man.
    -We have the 4th OF/DH
    -BUC
    -BU IF
    -BU IF/OF

There is no place for someone who can ONLY play 1B.

  7. Jesus Bustero May 13th, 2013 at 10:24 am

I mean, what do you do with Overbay?

  8. ac1 May 13th, 2013 at 10:25 am

They SHOULD hold Overbay as long as they can though, even if it means only 11 pitchers and 14 hitters. Our starters go deep in games and our pen is full of long relievers and guys that can go 2 innings.

  9. Jesus Bustero May 13th, 2013 at 10:28 am

They should just drag out Tex’s rehab until August. Then you can keep Overbay in the lineup as much as possible and use the excuse of injury prevention until September when rosters expand.

    That’s not necessary.

“4th OF” (whoever of Wells, Granderson, Ichiro and Gardner has the day off)
    BU C (now Romine)
    Nix
    Overbay

It works if they want it to. They can’t just dump Overbay right away because there is a decent chance Teixeira gets injured again.

  11. mick May 13th, 2013 at 10:31 am

Now, this is officially the worst lineup of the year…
    Let’s win 2!

  12. astrocityfan May 13th, 2013 at 10:32 am

i honestly think tex will reinjure himself when he plays. The injury he has does not have a good history. I am not wishing for that but it seems realistic. Since tex is on the 60 day now we wont have to worry about it for another few weeks at least.

  13. mick May 13th, 2013 at 10:33 am

Is this just a rest day for Overbay?
Not to play 2 in one day for him and most, I guess…

Stewrat and not Romine for PHelps?
    I guess he’s saving Romine for Nuno/Warren.

    GregD May 13th, 2013 at 10:17 am

JAP—–you’re right, hopefully Sanchez can be Wieters….I don’t see a Machado anywhere ……

    GregD May 13th, 2013 at 10:18 am

JAP—- but you can never have enough pitching :)
    ///

In June, it’s likely that Miguel Andujar is going to be in Staten Island. He’s far away both in terms of age and level, but he’s a guy who, ATM, profiles as a power/contact type 3B.

GregD, Jo-Ram could force his way into the picture next ST. Let’s just hope he can stay healthy all year, whether he’s down here or in SWB (can’t really see him remaining in Trenton all year) and build up the arm.

  15. mick May 13th, 2013 at 10:34 am

To assume Tex stays healthy is ludicrous, as is letting go of Overbay, one of our MVP’s so far.

  16. bruceb May 13th, 2013 at 10:36 am

Just as well we didn’t play Guess The Lineup today. Most people have never heard of half of this team!

  17. CountryClub May 13th, 2013 at 10:41 am

This is a legit concern. It’s why they will make Teix prove himself in the minore before he comes up. It’s probably why they’ll also keep Overbay on the roster for a couple of weeks after Teix comes up. But if Teix does stay healthy it will only be a matter of time before overbay gets released. It would be different if the team needed a left handed DH. But with Hafner on the roster, that spot if obviously filled too.

  18. bruceb May 13th, 2013 at 10:41 am

The troops are actually so thin on the ground that I would rather have seen us save the “big guns” for the night game and let Nuno pitch against Masterson.

  19. 86w183 May 13th, 2013 at 10:43 am

I’m gonna head over to Legend’s Field to watch that lineup in action!

  20. Mike Ri May 13th, 2013 at 10:45 am

Boy…. not sure what to make of this lineup .. lol lol

  21. Patrick May 13th, 2013 at 10:46 am

So has DONNY commented yet on Teixeira being put on the 60 day DL? I thought the Yankees refused to put him there for insurance fraud purposes?

  22. CountryClub May 13th, 2013 at 10:50 am

Jack Curry ?@JackCurryYES 2m Corban Joseph, who was called up to be Yankees’ 26th man today, will start at 1st in Game 1 and at 2d in Game 2. Cano will DH in Game 2.

  23. CountryClub May 13th, 2013 at 10:53 am

So you have Joseph playing 2 games today and then Adams is supposedly going to be thrown into the fire when he comes up on Wednesday. Sink or swim….I like it.

  24. ObviousMan May 13th, 2013 at 10:57 am

The WBC pays texs salary so long as he is on the DL under new MLB rules. Team already in line for at least 10 mil in savings with him out. They’re in no hurry to bring him up.

  25. Niblick May 13th, 2013 at 10:59 am

    Stewie going 18 today?

Rafael DePaula, rhp, Yankees: Four years ago, Major League Baseball suspended DePaula for one year when it took issue with his paperwork. It’s not clear how MLB was able to suspend DePaula, given that he never signed a contract with a major league team and, unlike players such as Jairo Beras or Obispo Aybar, DePaula never went through any registration process (MLB now uses the term “ineligible to sign” instead of suspended for players who have yet to sign contracts). DePaula eventually came forward with a new age—this one only one year older than he had previously claimed—signed with the Yankees for $500,000 and stayed in the Dominican Summer League for his first season, where he overmatched a bunch of teenagers whose career highlight will probably be that they once faced Rafael DePaula.

DePaula’s first exposure to pro ball in the United States has been an overwhelming success. He’s averaging 15.7 strikeouts per nine innings with 58 strikeouts (most in the minors) over 33 1/3 innings and a 2.70 ERA. Given DePaula’s lack of experience, it’s understandable that the Yankees sent him to low Class A Charleston, but at this point, he just doesn’t belong there any more

Bruce B-couldn’t agree with you more. The idea here is to leave Cleveland with no worse than a split.Should be a tough day today,Cleveland can flat out hit as a team, and Masterson is a legit ace.I think it will be a long and interesting day.

  30. Bo knows May 13th, 2013 at 11:14 am

Hopefully the Yankees take it slowly with both Ramirez and De Paula. Let them work on secondary pitches. Coming up to the Majors with two quality pitches is not a recipe for success.

You sure Girardi won’t decide to put himself in instead?
Anything to keep Romine from playing..

Today, Phelps can make his bones. The main point of interest will be his pitching from the stretch.

  33. kazoome May 13th, 2013 at 11:16 am

exactly ObviousMan……..why even think about bringing tex back as long as the WBC is paying him…….would be nice to find a RH hitting 1B who could also play other positons……hopefully Corban Joseph is that guy…….he doesn’t have to play gold glove defense…..just play passable at 1B,2B and 3B
