Pettitte to the DL

Andy Pettitte

Yankees GM Brian Cashman just announced that Andy Pettitte is being placed on the 15-day DL with a strained trap.

“We don’t think it’s overly serious, but we want to play it safe, so we’re going to bring (Vidal) Nuno back,” Cashman said. “I’d rather just resolve this now, give him the time off and reset his clock.”

Pettitte experienced back spasms in his start last night, and now the Yankees want to play it safe. Pettitte said that he feels much better today and Cashman said that they expect him to return to the rotation as soon as he comes off of the DL, so this doesn’t sound like it will be an extended absence. Nuno will take Pettitte’s spot in the rotation.

“I understand,” Pettitte said. “It could be overly cautious, but I also understand that I could need a few days to let it calm down before I can throw a bullpen, and I need to pitch on Tuesday. They don’t want to send me out there in Baltimore Tuesday and starting warming up and it locks up, and then we don’t have pitching. We’re in a tough stretch right now, so I understand.”

I thought cashman was stepping down or a major trade.

Old team with (former) PED users = injuries.

    Who could have predicted this?

My wife has never suffered from a strained trap despite taking all the time.

I’m thinking Pettitte being 40 yrs old probably has a little more to do with the balky back than any PEDs.

The fact that he can still do it at his age is a marvel.

Though his mind is not for rent
Don’t put him down as arrogant
    His reserve, a quiet defense

Joe, it should by all sound calculus, end up being an interesting series,…if only for what the Ranger coach might end up saying.

It’s just a strained trap. It’s not like he broke his leg. That was last year.

I had one of those once…I think I’ve had one of everything once

so do we see a 1-4 and 1 or 2 K’s from Gardner tonight…seems to be the norm

  11. jmills May 17th, 2013 at 6:41 pm

Late to the party,….again. Why couldn’t the strained trap be dispaced upon the Ranger coach instead?

  12. Sir Harden Thick May 17th, 2013 at 6:41 pm

    And 2 k’s from Nix

    Comnsnse,

Thank you and i always defer to my elders for tha very reason… they have the experience and the time to see things from the outside… sometimes the day to day responsabilities blind us, therefore some perspective from someone with white hair is always a plus. ;)

Joe, we have to put that, ” to any god or government ” part in there. The boyz were sure on fire making that album wintered away in Quebec. I’m soooo jealous!

  16. champ809 May 17th, 2013 at 6:47 pm

The Yanks are almost playing with a lil house $ at this point, with betances already up I’d rather see him take Andy’s next start with Nuno in the longman/middle relief role and see how it goes. If he gives you 5 or 6 good competitive innings then let him take the next start as well. The upside of him performing really well and maybe finding himself up here vs. the downside of him bombing and getting moved backed to the ‘pen.

  17. joeman May 17th, 2013 at 6:47 pm

really liked that Easy Rider song

Joe, I bet you do a great rendition of,” Radar Love “. – Golden Earring

  19. luis May 17th, 2013 at 6:50 pm

    champ809,

As much as I like to see Betances starting… Nuno will fill Pettitte’s spot.. But yeah, it would be worth the try

  20. Doreen May 17th, 2013 at 6:56 pm

That’s messing with a guy. Telling him he’s got to work on pitching in relief, sending him up to the majors to be a relief pitcher, and then, pow, oh, sorry, we want you to start. Talk about being jerked around.

  21. jmills May 17th, 2013 at 6:57 pm

    Doreen, sounds like, Jim Gott.

  22. Niblick May 17th, 2013 at 6:58 pm

    Betances? No thankses.

  23. luis May 17th, 2013 at 6:58 pm

    Doreen,

Not if it’s done right now…. But they are not going to do it, so it is a moot point….

  24. comnsnse May 17th, 2013 at 6:59 pm

Perhaps a trap for Cashman would be appropriate?

A bear trap or at least something that traps varmints! ;)

  25. jmills May 17th, 2013 at 7:03 pm

” The Trap “, is a great film avec, Oliver Reed – I recommend ( For What Its Worth Buffalo Springfield )

Thorogood is fine by me at the start of this Canuck long weekend.

  29. jmills May 17th, 2013 at 7:17 pm

Oh, Jesus, Joe, Stan Jonathan really broke Pierre Bouchard’s orbital bone over that one. Sad story, native Stan was hunting up here a while ago and killed someone with an errant shot. I think he’s up for manslaughter.

  30. ObviousMan May 17th, 2013 at 7:23 pm

Lol amazing how these boards fill up as soon as the Yankees start losing. Way more activity following a losing streak than at any other time. That shows you what type of fans the yankees have, and what type of commentators post on lohud.

  31. comnsnse May 17th, 2013 at 7:33 pm

Can any one defend Francisco’s presence on a major league roster?

  32. comnsnse May 17th, 2013 at 7:44 pm

Obvious man, as previously noted you too can be less obvious when you don’t like the tone or content of the blog.

    But really what’s your criticism?

When people are bored by a particular entertainment event they sometimes like to opine about other things, like your unnecessary criticism which leads to comments which you apparently do not believe germane to a sport’s blog.

What would you like to discuss? How about Montero? ;)
