It’s still raining …

Posted by: Brian Heyman - Posted in Misc on May 19, 2013 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

David AdamsIt was supposed to rain until 9 p.m., according to Joe Girardi. So no game, the first rainout here this season. CC Sabathia took his start being washed away in stride.

“I’m not very intense before I pitch,” Sabathia said. “Either way, I wasn’t really worried about it. I was sitting on the couch, and they told me it was canceled. So I played catch. I’ll be fine.”

So the Yankees will fly on to Baltimore this afternoon.

“They’ve got a team that can go to the playoffs again,” Robinson Cano said.

Sabathia will start Monday night against the Orioles, followed by Phil Hughes and Hiroki Kuroda. Vidal Nuno was originally going to start Monday night or Tuesday night, but he will be skipped and work out of the bullpen for a few days. After Thursday’s off day, David Phelps is set to start Friday night at Tampa Bay.

As far as today’s ticket situation, fans with paid tickets can use them when the game is made up or exchange them for any regular-season game, subject to availability (and there seems to be availability this season). Complimentary tickets are only good for the makeup date, which hasn’t been announced.

Hey Luis. Que pasa? Just got back from camping trip. I didn’t take any electronic stuff with me so just heard about Brignac move. You know I’m not even a bit surprised any longer how deep into the scrap heap Cashman will go. I’ve made a lot of progress with respect to that.

I know they describe it as a “depth move” but we know he and Nix will be in the lineup together, starting, just as they would have been today. I know at least one has to start because of the SS situation but they can’t possibly consider both of these guys starters in the same lineup.

I know you’ve looked and Brignac is even a worse hitter then Nix. He’s played 280 games in six seasons and has amassed less then a .600 ops. An ops+ of 63.

i was the one asking for the best views possible. if it wasn’t for me no one would have even looked for a better view.

if anyone thinks on a bang bang play with the ball thrown down the line that the catcher is supposed to always make that play, they’ve never played the position.

and if it was an error . why no error?
could he have made the play ?
    sure?
    was it an easy play?

    Hey Willkamm.

I don’t necessarily agree that the intention is to start Brignac and Nix over a guy like Adams ( they would be blind then! )… Just that he is an improvement over Gonzales ( even though he pitched and would have been the emergency catcher ;) ) … Despite his 600 OPS, that LH swing might play better in NYS or so it seems to be Cashman’s contention… What I have seen from him is a very long swing with lots of holes in it… But I have to recognize that Cashman loves the scrap heap bin… It makes him look smart! ;)

There’s a funny story told by Alex Lifeson of Rush. As a kid he of course adored Hendrix, but when he realized he could never meet that bar, he said he just had to get on with his own little thing,…..which is pretty damn good! :)

Lifeson does a fantastic version with Rush of ” Crossraods “. Both the studio and live in Hamburg versions, exceed.

  36. trisha - true pinstriped blue May 19th, 2013 at 3:48 pm

Ghost – baseball superstition is that you are not supposed to speak the word “no hitter” or “perfect game” until after the 5th inning. Otherwise, you jinx the pitching effort. (I don’t make them up, I just follow them!. So luckily I noticed it in the 4th inning – and spoke it.

    :)

  37. Ghostwriter May 19th, 2013 at 3:52 pm

No-hitters aside, Lackey getting his act together would be a real shot in the arm for the Sox pitching rotation if he can do it…

  39. willkamm May 19th, 2013 at 4:01 pm

Luis, I had noted they started both Nix and Brignac today. It was suggested by some that was Dickey’s knuckler wouldn’t screw Dave Adams swing. I guess in that case it makes sense. He’s could certainly not screw up either Nix or Brignac’s swing any more then they are. :)

Before anyone tells me that it’s way too early to be worrying about this, I agree. But I was bored so I was paging through the September schedules. And I noticed that the Red Sox have four off days in September, including two in the final week. They will be able to set up the rotation however they want for a possibly meaningful series in Baltimore to end the season.

Of course those off days won’t mean anything if the Sox have been derailed by then.

I was against the Montero trade, but that ship has sailed. Sure, it would be nice if he were in our system, but I’m pretty happy with the guys we’ve got. I just hope Cervy can find a way to stay healthy, and that Romine continues to develop. Moreover, the Yanks are well-stocked with DHs these days. It would be tough to find him ABs as a DH.

  68. MG May 19th, 2013 at 5:32 pm

  72. Tar May 19th, 2013 at 5:45 pm

“And given a choice between Cervelli and Martin, I would go with Cervy.”

I would think that would be a poor choice. If Cervelli were playing Martin would be out hitting him. But Cervelli is not playing and is on the DL because he can’t keep his hand where it doesn’t belong.

By all accounts the Yankee pitching staff loved throwing to Martin, I have heard of no such reports with regards to Cervelli.

Unfortunately Martin is better on both sides of the plate.

that rocket montero hit today may be the beginning of him making a lot of haters look bad.

he will start hitting. its just a matter of time.

i find the spot seattle is in humorous. they don’t dare play montero everyday , but they don’t dare let him go to anther team.

if you don’t have the baseballs to stick with a commitment to a young player when you designate him a starter why make commitments in the first place ?

wedge isn’t helping the situation at all. of course he’s worried abut being fired. think he should be replaced because he bad mouths his players in public way too much. that’s for smoak, their shortstop, and for montero.

as far as i’m concerned the mariners can trade montero anytime they want. it would only help him.

the mariners would be like the twins in trading ortiz. go ahead seattle if you dare :)

Nope. I very much doubt that Martin would be significantly outhitting Cervy if he were still healthy. And very much doubt that Martin will be able to sustain his current hot streak, or anything close to it. By the end of the season, Martin will be OPS-ing close to the .700 to .730 range, as will Cervelli.

Here’s a question: there are a couple regulars who in the past have commented about civility and not making things nasty/personal and have directed phrases like “you’re better than that” towards Jesus Bustero, for example. Both gentlemen in ming have commented in this thread after randy’s comments of 3:07 pm and subsequent remarks.

Time will tell. I certainly don’t miss Martin ( not that I dislike the man, or anthing). And if, by some miracle, he were to OPS at .850 for the season (with at least 400 ABs), I still wouldn’t feel all that bad about letting him go. In all honesty, who could have seen that coming? It would be incredibly unlikely for him to play at that level given what we’ve sen over the last couple years…

    Nick

    Moi?

You are right . Randy should be allowed to post his Montero posts without being constantly attacked.
is that what you meant :D

Short answer: I think maybe us mortals are not as good as you at keeping score.

Slightly longer answer: Randy was responding to an attack on his character. He is being attack on all sides for his Montero beliefs. I’m too busy and tired to go back 50 posts to see who was ultimately responsible.

I did think Randy’s initial attack on Yank61 this morning was uncalled for, but that might have been old bad blood stuff.

    Why do you ask?

  91. ObviousMan May 19th, 2013 at 6:33 pm

    Tar,

Didn’t you hate Martin last year when he played for the yankees? Now you like him?

As for Montero, he’s been unbelievably bad since the trade. Whether of not the yankees won the trade won’t be known for a while, despite what self- proclaimed geniuses like the commentator ” j Alfred prufrock” claim. Sure, Montero could start hitting like Johnny bench likes randy thinks he already is, or Pineda could start throwing like randy Johnson. Personally, I still think the yankees win this trade long term, but that’s just my opinion. Nobody knows right now. Randy, prufrock, jerk face, and co don’t have the guts to admit they don’t know either.

i always knew you were a little weenie.

you remind me of the golf writer who tried to poked me in the chest on the first hole when we were paired up and playing in a money game . i had commented that it looked like slow play that day.he told me with the pointed finger no more negative talk.

once he got done rolling down off the first tee in front of about 200 people, he came back with the asst golf pro and dared me to do it again in front of the golf pro as he poked towards me again. well , once he got down rolling down hill again he had his witness :)

oh, the other two hundred people said they didn’t see it. he wasn’t well liked.

my point is if you want me to do it again, just poke me.
    i really don’t care.

    Cowardlyman

If you are going to troll me, at least get your facts straight.

Produce posts that said “I hate Martin” and said that the “Yankees suck”.

I can at least produce posts where you said……… oh wait….. we don’t know who you are

definitely bad blood between us. that was my message to him to talk to someone else. i’ve given it to tomingeorgia, nick in sf and and a few others. i don’t take two faced passive aggressive cowardly types well.

  96. Nick in SF May 19th, 2013 at 6:42 pm

Well, I partially ask because it’s always interesting to see how people will dance around the question and randy-as-victim is certainly an interesting angle as a piece of spin.

I also ask because I think it would improve the overall atmosphere here if there was some honesty and consistency in refereeing if there’s going to be refereeing.

randy went so far over the line of propriety that it’s comical. I think MG did as well, by the way. I don’t know why people make fun of randy for the nature of the store he owns and operates. He’s a businessman who supports himself and provides jobs to people, both pluses in my book.

and randy, I’m not going to write to Chad — why would I? I’m not trying to shut you up. My question wasn’t about your lack of control or nastiness, but about how others ignore it. But you make a good point: if someone like Jesus Bustero, for example, posted the same stuff you posted, email to Chad might very well be forthcoming. Different strokes for different folks.

How precisely does Nick remind you of this golf writer? Or were you just recounting this tale so that we could all see what a tough guy you are? I think that we’re all a little too old for this nonsense, don’t you?

  99. mick May 19th, 2013 at 6:47 pm

who said hendrix was in the rock hall?
    i see no mention…

  100. randy l. May 19th, 2013 at 6:49 pm

this is a side thing, but i used twitter for the first time today and found it more useful than say talking with mick.

anyone here use it much, and if so is it more useful than this blog ? i know sj44 went there.
one of the problems with this blog is i would not put a link to my business or myself on here because of security concerns.

twitter people put their name out there so there must be some security features that allow this. obviously this doesn’t exist on this blog.

in short why stay on a blog that is dangerous to be yourself?

  101. Nick in SF May 19th, 2013 at 6:49 pm

Ghostwriter, I don’t know if it’s deliberate — but it could be, randy is smarter than he sometimes comes off here — but he’s rhetorically setting up a binary outcome where I’m a weenie if I email Chad about his outbursts and, since he’s issued the dare, I’m a weenie if I don’t email Chad as well. He’s basically just calling me a name.

If he’s being consistent, he’s also saying that people who write to Chad to complain about the content of posts here are weenies. Some of those people might not appreciate such a designation, but I doubt they would call randy on it.

  102. mick May 19th, 2013 at 6:50 pm

    I stand corrected.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience is listed in the Hall.

pompous weenie who likes to poke people.

    but thanks for asking

  104. Nick in SF May 19th, 2013 at 6:51 pm

randy, I’ll totally follow you back if you follow me on twitter.

  105. Tar May 19th, 2013 at 6:53 pm

    Nick

First, i never realized I was “refereeing”.

Second, now that you mention It, I do think my comments to Bret were that he should be allowed to posts about any trades or baseball stuff without being persecuted for it. I have stuck up for bret on this topic in the past. I don’t condone him being attacked for it.

The same should go for Randy. He is being attacked constantly over the Montero thing. I sense a gang mentality starting and that puts me in his corner on this.

I also would not equate Randy telling someone to F##% O@@ to Bret’s actions either.

  106. Jesus Bustero May 19th, 2013 at 6:53 pm

Why so ornery today Randy? Did you run out of coconut oil?

  107. mick May 19th, 2013 at 6:53 pm

Randy is questioning why he stays here.
Is this the beginning of the end?

I don’t think that it’s deliberate at all… I just think that he thinks you’re a weenie, and he would like to roll you down a hill. My advice to you is that you shouldn’t go golfing with Randy!

  109. mick May 19th, 2013 at 6:54 pm

would you have preferred me to simply reply with the same things that Randy said, essentially, ‘eff you, a**hole’?

It would have been much easier, maybe I will try that the next time.

All I did was reply to one of his posts claiming someone else should find a photo that shows Montero was off the base after he had posted his video screen capture link about 5 times.

I posted the link, it shows Montero off the base. Here is it, again: http://seattletimes.com/ABPub/…..13975.html

In my world, the right thing to say is, ‘you’re right, it was a tough play’. That would be the end of it. Instead I get cursed out.

One thing I learned a long time ago was that you can’t win an argument on the internet so this is it for me, everyone can think what they want.

  111. Jesus Bustero May 19th, 2013 at 6:56 pm

Mick is more fun than Twitter. Sorry Randy.

SJ44 is infatuated with the medium because he does not know how to close his yapper. I’m pretty sure he has ears (I’ve seen them both on his twitter pic) but I’m not sure they’re fully functional.

  112. Nick in SF May 19th, 2013 at 6:56 pm

Tar, my friend, randy is having one of his temper tantrums and is metaphorically walking around slapping people in the face and your response seems to be “why are you mean people picking on poor randy??”

“My advice to you is that you shouldn’t go golfing with Randy! ”

I enjoy golfing with people who are better than me, which is by necessity or I could only golf by myself  , however not as much when they’re that much better than me, so this is a golf rendezvous which is not in the cards.

MG, no quibble with answering smack talk with smack talk and of course randy’s reply was a dodge from admitting how he was wrong about the play.

You weren’t asking me, but yes, I think that would have been better response than ridiculing his business. I don’t think that it’s cool to ridicule good, honest work. You were absolutely right until you took that gratuitous shot at his business.

  117. Nick in SF May 19th, 2013 at 7:01 pm

  118. Tar May 19th, 2013 at 7:04 pm

“PS Randy won’t admit this, he will just change the subject”

Is what I suspect pissed him off. I have never got the feeling that Randy will avoid any subject, right or wrong. At the time I figured you two would figure it out. Nick said I was being unfair because I didn’t reprimand Randy for it. :D

Tar, my friend, randy is having one of his temper tantrums and is metaphorically walking around slapping people in the face and your response seems to be “why are you mean people picking on poor randy??”

Rangers put Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list and call up top prospect Jurickson Profar http://dlvr.it/3P5fB8 #mlb #hbt

Nice of them to do this on a Sunday so I can activate Profar in time for the new week in fantasy baseball :)
