Yankees lineup vs. Harvey

Posted by: Josh Thomson - Posted in Lineup on May 28, 2013 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Josh Thomson in for Chad again today.

Travis Hafner definitely does not own a glove. The Yanks could use his LH bat tonight against Harvey (if they play).

Here’s who they will send up instead:

Yankees
Brett Gardner CF
Robinson Cano 2B
Vernon Wells LF
Lyle Overbay 1B
David Adams 3B
Ichiro Suzuki RF
Reid Brignac SS
Chris Stewart C
Hiroki Kuroda SP

Mets
Ruben Tejada SS
Daniel Murphy 2B
David Wright 3B
Lucas Duda LF
Marlon Byrd RF
Rick Ankiel CF
John Buck C
Ike Davis 1B
Matt Harvey SP

    Stewart again. I see.

  2. Russell Munson May 28th, 2013 at 3:49 pm

    Brignac is the difference-maker.

  3. Jerkface May 28th, 2013 at 3:49 pm

Youk can come back whenever he wants, as he’ll be fine to play at 1B vs lefties and DH some as well.

Tex needs about the full rehab time in the minors. It is unfathomable to think he will play ~4 games in the minors and then come to the bronx.

  4. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2013 at 3:51 pm

JF – I’m just gonna pretend they’re seeing something in his bat that makes them think he’s ready right now…. it isn’t easy but I include unicorns and giants in that fantasy as well, which makes it much easier to embrace.

  5. Russell Munson May 28th, 2013 at 3:54 pm

Teixeira needs a full spring training and then a month of regular season games to get his timing back. I can’t fathom why they think 4 games is enough time.

  6. tbone1570 May 28th, 2013 at 3:57 pm

    JF,

I agree about Tex. He needs much more time in the minors before I’d even consider bringing him back.

  7. Against All Odds May 28th, 2013 at 3:58 pm

Then they lose 2-1 to the Mets and I can’t get to sleep because I’m so mad!!!

    @eboland11

Cervelli said he expects to report to Tampa this weekend and start throwing about a week from now. Hopes he can return 2 weeks after that

    @FeinsandNYDN

Joba Chamberlain is not listed on today’s lineup card. Not sure if that means he will be activated or not.

  9. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2013 at 4:02 pm

    @MarcCarig

TC says Parnell’s availability is “iffy at best.”

  10. Jerkface May 28th, 2013 at 4:05 pm

    @eboland11

Cervelli said he expects to report to Tampa this weekend and start throwing about a week from now. Hopes he can return 2 weeks after that

Does Cervelli not realize he is on the 60 day DL and thus ineligible to return in that time frame?

  11. bruceb May 28th, 2013 at 4:07 pm

Ain’t that a fact, Odds. What a powerful elixir our sports teams are. I have way too many to lead a normal life. I’ve been married for 27 years and my wife still doesn’t understand it!

  12. bruceb May 28th, 2013 at 4:09 pm

Shame, the day I worry about the availability of a Mets reliever is the day I stop watching baseball :)

  13. LGY May 28th, 2013 at 4:09 pm

I’ve been so out of the loop this season. Someone help me out please.

Is Stubhub still the best way to go for tickets?

  14. tbone1570 May 28th, 2013 at 4:14 pm

Cervelli just wants to play so bad! :)

  15. Hassey May 28th, 2013 at 4:17 pm

    I’m calling a perfect game

  16. Nick in SF May 28th, 2013 at 4:20 pm

How much difference is there between around three weeks from now and when Cervelli will be eligible to come off the DL?

  17. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2013 at 4:22 pm

    LGY May 28th, 2013 at 4:09 pm

    —————–

The Yankee ticket exchange isn’t bad either.. I’ve noticed that the better seats go for more of a last minute bargain on Stubhub, but both seem okay to me. It’s worth comparing if you’re looking for the best deal.

  18. Jerkface May 28th, 2013 at 4:24 pm

How much difference is there between around three weeks from now and when Cervelli will be eligible to come off the DL?

    -

At the very minimum a week!

  19. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2013 at 4:24 pm

Cervelli went on the DL on April 27th it looks like… so he wouldn’t be available until the end of June..?

  20. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2013 at 4:25 pm

Oh, and you can’t get electronic tickets less than 3 hours before game time on Stubhub I think. Not sure if that’s relevant for you LGY, but figured I’d throw it in.

  21. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2013 at 4:26 pm

If my math is right he can be activated June 25th, which is like 2 weeks after Cervelli thinks he can come back lol. Poor Cervy.

  22. Niblick May 28th, 2013 at 4:27 pm

    Last game for Brignac, hopefully?

  23. Hassey May 28th, 2013 at 4:28 pm

Girardi thought Cashman said cognac, not Brignac

  24. Nick in SF May 28th, 2013 at 4:33 pm

Eh, so he’s around a week off. Cut the kid some slack. He can’t use all his fingers to count with his injury.

  25. Rich in NJ May 28th, 2013 at 4:35 pm

If they aren’t going to re-sign Hughes, they should consider trading him now. He could help a lot of teams, and they might be able to get a good young OF, although I have no idea who that might be.

  26. sunny615 May 28th, 2013 at 4:37 pm

    The lineup of champions.

  27. Niblick May 28th, 2013 at 4:37 pm

By the way, Cervelli said he expects to need two weeks once he resumes baseball activities, not that he’d be activated after two weeks.

  28. fantasygame101 May 28th, 2013 at 4:39 pm

this team needs production from consistent production from ss position so hoping for start of something good for brignac. If brignac fizzles, maybe it is time to see what switch hitter Ibarra can offer.

  29. luis May 28th, 2013 at 4:41 pm

    Mac,

Good post… I am heading home, but I will properly answer you when I get home.

Aha! LGY good to see you!!

    Later folks

Whats the weather like in NY? how likely is it the game will get rained out?

  31. Rich in NJ May 28th, 2013 at 4:52 pm

    Raining.

  32. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2013 at 4:55 pm

Francesa reporting they’re going to try to get this one in tonight, even if they have to wait a while to start.

  33. fantasygame101 May 28th, 2013 at 4:55 pm

I hope it is not rained out bec. kuroda will not be able to pitch against boston

  34. Duh Innings II May 28th, 2013 at 4:59 pm

Why is the team’s best hitter and a guy who wants 8-10 years at $25M per year batting second?

Seriously, if Cano wants to be paid like a star, he should bat where most stars bat: third or cleanup.

The Yanks are babying Cano i.e. batting him second so he doesn’t have the pressure to bat third or cleanup.

Every time the first batter of the game makes an out, the only player Cano can drive in is himself. Or put another way, Cano has to hit a solo shot to produce a run. Ridiculous.

  35. ron May 28th, 2013 at 5:03 pm

Angels pitcher Robert Coello’s mystery pitch leaves hitters muttering under their breath.
Over 18 2/3 innings at Triple-A to start the season, he struck out 29, and the Angels’ bullpen mess prompted his arrival. Since then, he has been dominant: 10 1/3 innings, six hits, one walk, 18 strikeouts and a litany of confused hitters who can’t touch the WTF, umpires who call it a ball when it crosses the middle of the plate, catchers who get bruised by it and technology that cannot keep up with it.

It’s true: The algorithm for PITCHf/x, the camera system that captures every pitch thrown, cannot classify the WTF. While Baseball Info Solutions says Coello has thrown it 13.9 percent of the time this season, PITCHf/x has him throwing changeups, curveballs, forkballs and cutters, unsure of what is what.

  38. Jerkface May 28th, 2013 at 5:15 pm

    @Joelsherman1 21s

Girardi sounds like he expects Teixeira/Youkilis back Fri. Assuming nothing goes wrong at AA rehab Wed/Thurs

Insane. Also that knuckle-forkball is awesome.

  39. bruceb May 28th, 2013 at 5:16 pm

    Around 3 am :)

  41. bruceb May 28th, 2013 at 5:18 pm

7pm to 10pm according to the weather channel. At 10 pm, chance of precipitation increases from 5% to 45%.

    MLB
We mourn the passing of Dr. Lewis Yocum, one of @MLB’s most outstanding gentlemen who extended a countless number of careers with his work.

Some of the docs should be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame for their contributions to the game

  43. bruceb May 28th, 2013 at 5:18 pm

If Harvey and Kuroda live up to their billing, game should be over around 9.30pm.

  44. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2013 at 5:19 pm

Thanks guys.. ordering food at 6:15pm sounds like a safe bet.

  45. Captain Clutch May 28th, 2013 at 5:20 pm

I wonder if Tex told the Yanks that he won’t play in AAA games. It’s absolutely ridiculous that they are activating a guy after only 2 games. Especially when everyone knows that it takes him almost 2 months to start hitting when the season starts. If the Yanks had no one to play 1st and they were really struggling I can understand it but this makes absolutely no sense.

  46. austinmac May 28th, 2013 at 5:26 pm

Sad to report the David Huff era is over. He has been designated to make room for Joba per MLBtv.com.

  47. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2013 at 5:26 pm

@Joelsherman1 Pineda cracked nail in sim game and had to be sh*t down from game #Yankees

Typo there by Sherman.. hopefully this isn’t much of a setback.

  48. ron May 28th, 2013 at 5:27 pm

If you schroll down a little more on the link above,it shows a video of the pitch. If anybody is interested.

  49. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2013 at 5:27 pm

I didn’t even get to make one Huff Daddy joke..

  50. Rich in NJ May 28th, 2013 at 5:33 pm

Huff should steal some towels or something as a souvenir.

  51. trisha - true pinstriped blue May 28th, 2013 at 5:34 pm

    Poor David Huff. :(

Hey, he might show up again. One never knows.

    :)

    **************

Austinmac, thought your post was terrific and right on the money.

    **************

“The mayority of the good posters rarely post here anymore…”

    LMAO on that one!!! .

I can’t think of many posters who used to post here in Luis’s tenure who don’t post here anymore, period. And those I can think of I know I certainly don’t miss.

Looks like “good posters” are in the eye of the beholder, eh?

  52. trisha - true pinstriped blue May 28th, 2013 at 5:36 pm

I actually consider the majority of posters who post here to be good posters.

  53. trisha - true pinstriped blue May 28th, 2013 at 5:37 pm

Austin – I didn’t mean your post about poor David Huff. I meant your post in the previous thread.

    :)

  54. trisha - true pinstriped blue May 28th, 2013 at 5:43 pm

So does that mean Huff goes to AAA?

  55. luis May 28th, 2013 at 5:44 pm

    FTR

    luis May 28th, 2013 at 3:11 pm
    Bruce,

Me neither… Wasn’t talking about posters like you or Shame or most of the regulars… I miss guys like CB, GLove, JAP, YF, LGY, and many others that used to post regularly that nowadays post very randomly

  56. trisha - true pinstriped blue May 28th, 2013 at 5:44 pm

As opposed to AA, where he probably will need to go before this is all over.

The AA I refer to is Alcoholics Anonymous.

“We mourn the passing of Dr. Lewis Yocum, one of @MLB’s most outstanding gentlemen who extended a countless number of careers with his work.”

RIP Dr. Yocum. You surely had the respect of the league.

  58. trisha - true pinstriped blue May 28th, 2013 at 6:16 pm

    “The lineup of champions.”

Yet those very players, minus Brignac, have won games for the Yankees and helped in come-from-behind wins.

    What’s the problem?
