CC Sabathia

The Yankees thought they were getting two players back. They actually got three. Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis played their part, but it was CC Sabathia’s return to form that truly snapped a five-game losing streak and carried the Yankees to a 4-1 win against the rival Red Sox. Sabathia matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts. He walked none and allowed one run through 7.1 innings, snapping a string of three particularly bad starts for the Yankees ace. Behind him, the Yankees matched the highest run total in a week. Teixeira’s leadoff walk started a two-run second inning, and Youkilis had an RBI single in the fifth. Three straight singles, with an RBI from Brett Gardner, led to the final Yankees run in the seventh. Mariano Rivera finished the game with his 19th save, his first since blowing one against the Mets.
