Umpires: Manny Gonzalez HP, Tony Randazzo 1B, Larry Vanover 2B, Brian Gorman 3B

TV/Radio: YES/WCBS 880

Weather: mostly cloudy, comfortable

In search of some O: The Yankees have scored one or no runs in five of their last seven games.

Transaction: Ben Francisco has been released.

The new right fielder: Hopefully Overbay can handle right without a glaring mishap. He seems like a great guy when you talk to him. I asked him before the game if he felt nervous. Got the sense he is a little bit. But he sounded excited, too.

Update, 7:17: Pettitte gets Swisher looking to end the first. Swisher received a nice welcome-back ovation.

Update, 7:26: One walk, hitless first for the Yankees.

Update, 7:42: No runs for either team in the second. Yankees still have no hits.

Update, 7:49: Swisher drives in a run on a fielder’s choice, 1-0.

Update, 8:00: Teixeira was 1 for 9 since he returned, now 2 for 10 after grand slam, 4-1 Yankees in the third.

Update, 8:11: First 1-2-3 inning for Pettitte, in search of 250th win in 500th start.

Update, 8:17: Masterson fans two in a 1-2-3 fourth.

Update, 8:24: Aviles sac fly to shallow center. Cano’s throw just a little late, wasn’t in good throwing position, 4-2.

Update, 8:26: Cabrera grounds out and hurts his leg on the way to first. He’s being helped off, not putting much weight on his right foot. He might have hurt it first on his previous at-bat, running to first.

Update, 8:32: Pettitte a wild pitch and then two walks, bases loaded, two outs in the fifth. He’s at 76 pitches. Shawn Kelley warming.

Update, 8:38: Pettitte falls behind Santana 3-1, then goes to 3-2, then gives up a two-run double, a tough hop that deflects off Adams’ glove and ends up in the stands. Pettitte is done, won’t get No. 250 tonight, 4-4 with two outs in the fifth. Kelley is on.

Update, 8:45: Kelley issues a walk to load the bases, then gets out of it. Overbay makes the catch in shallow right.

Update, 8:52: Hafner now 0 for 3 and 1 for his last 22, 4-4 after five.

Update, 8:59: Asdrubal Cabrera left game with strained right quad. 1-2-3 sixth for Kelley.

Update, 9:12: Gardner two-run single, 6-4. Could have been one-run single, but Masterson cut off the throw home.

Update, 9:14: Joba Chamberlain comes on for the seventh.

Update, 9:25: Chamberlain fires a 97 mph fastball by Carlos Santana for the third out with a runner on second.

Update, 9:33: Hafner HR No. 9, 7-4.

Update, 9:44: Robertson comes on for the eighth.

Update, 9:47: Girardi takes out Adams, puts in Nix for defense. Wells comes on to play left, Ichiro moves to right. Overbay is out, handled his one chance.

Update, 9:51: Robertson works a 1-2-3 inning.

Update, 9:57: Paid attendance announced at 40,007.

Update, 9:59: Mariano Rivera on to try for his 20th save.

Update, 10:08: Yankees win, 7-4.

    @DanBarbarisi

Nice cheers for Nick Swisher on his scoreboard introduction

    ———————

    Imagine that.

  6. joeman June 3rd, 2013 at 7:09 pm

wouldn’t put it past Nick Swisher to have a nice game…..

  7. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 7:11 pm

What a tribute to Overbey by the Yanks.

  8. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 7:12 pm

Also, looking at the empty seats, if you didn’t know you were at the Stadium, you could be at the Trop or Rogers Center.

  9. joecembrale June 3rd, 2013 at 7:13 pm

Adams rewarding his not being sent down with an E, no matter how they score it.

  10. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 7:14 pm

    Very happy for Swish.

  11. yankeefeminista June 3rd, 2013 at 7:14 pm

    Nice hand for Swish. :)

  12. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2013 at 7:16 pm

Has Romine caught Andy since day 1..? No?

  13. Ys Guy June 3rd, 2013 at 7:17 pm

terrible pitch by pettitte but it should have been a pb not a wp

  14. Ys Guy June 3rd, 2013 at 7:18 pm

pitch went around the plate, great framing by romine.

swisher had a reason to be pissed. that was not too close to take.

  15. yankeefeminista June 3rd, 2013 at 7:20 pm

    Shame, no.

I didn’t realize that Cash’s daughter sang the anthem tonight; good for her!

  16. joecembrale June 3rd, 2013 at 7:22 pm

Santa Cano just giving at bats away

  17. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2013 at 7:22 pm

fem – Thanks. That’s adorable, right?

  18. Ys Guy June 3rd, 2013 at 7:23 pm

hp ump being very inconsistent. two identical pitches to tex were called differently and the pitch tex walked on was pretty much the same pitch swisher was called out on.

  19. Ys Guy June 3rd, 2013 at 7:33 pm

to be as good of a first baseman as overbay is, he has to have good hand-eye and good footwork. that should help him in RF. i have no idea if he can throw from there, though, i guess we’ll find out…

  20. Ys Guy June 3rd, 2013 at 7:37 pm

19 posts in a half an hour. and half of them are mine…..

  21. mick June 3rd, 2013 at 7:38 pm

Didn’t someone here predict Overbay to the OF about a week ago?
Oh yeah…that was me…Curry went with it.

  22. joecembrale June 3rd, 2013 at 7:42 pm

Andy better be near perfect tonight, yeesh

  23. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 7:42 pm

It looks like Masterson is going to be pitching in the 8th inning with only 50 pitches thrown. He is throwing strikes so you can’t really be patient but the offense is struggling so much right now you don’t even see good swings.

  24. Triple Short of a Cycle June 3rd, 2013 at 7:43 pm

Well if this is a typical Tex year he should be getting hot around August

  25. mick June 3rd, 2013 at 7:46 pm

    mick May 25th, 2013 at 9:10 pm

i believe overbay can play left or right , he is a glove man.

  26. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 7:48 pm

Considering how bad the Yanks are hitting I would bring the infield in…

  27. jlyanks85 June 3rd, 2013 at 7:52 pm

Hopefully this 1-0 defecit doesn’t mean the game is over with this offense.

  28. Ys Guy June 3rd, 2013 at 7:52 pm

    “mick June 3rd, 2013 at 7:38 pm

Didn’t someone here predict Overbay to the OF about”
    ————————————–
yes as well as overbay for catcher, overbay for general manager. probably overbay for governor.

if you read all the posts, every possible prediction is made at some point.

  46. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 7:59 pm

  50. RadioKev June 3rd, 2013 at 8:00 pm

There’s no way Tex could be better than league average Lyle Overbay.

  51. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 8:00 pm

    Go Tex!!!!! Also batting lefty.

  52. jackamir June 3rd, 2013 at 8:00 pm

    shut em down andy!

  60. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 8:04 pm

Hopefully they will be able to score more runs and those aren’t the only runs scored for the night.

  61. SoS June 3rd, 2013 at 8:04 pm

And that I believe would be tex wstching his back for obay. Even if overbay hardly plays he will keep tex on high alert. Ok now back to reality. Money starts uhhm meant talks.

  62. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 8:06 pm

    “Totally unnecessary.”

    Agree.

  63. bigdan22 June 3rd, 2013 at 8:06 pm

Boy this organization looks really dead now. The stands. The minor league rosters. The major rosters. There is just so little talent with any upside anywhere.

I think it’s time to start thinking 5 year plans. In this era, it almost doesn’t make any sense to spend $200MM on a major league roster. You can’t buy anything really good with it. Except possibly pitching. Which I think, for their ML roster, that’s where the Yanks should allocate resources. Almost all to pitching. Which means pass on Cano.

Then, they must spend an absolute fortune over the next several years on product development, R & D, infrastructure, whatever you want to call it. No Yu Darvish should ever leave their grasp ever ever again. They should spend billions trying to acquire amateur talent all over the world. They should double their minor league affiliates if they have to. Hopefully, in a few years they’ll find some offense that way. In the mean time, scour the ML market for as much pitching, mostly old pitching, as possible to at least stay modestly competitive like they seem to be this year.

  64. chicken_stanley June 3rd, 2013 at 8:06 pm

  69. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2013 at 8:10 pm

  72. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 8:14 pm

  73. mick June 3rd, 2013 at 8:14 pm

tex must have read g. love’s rant today…in fact didn’t g. love say he was going to the game and sitting in RF…was that he who caught the granny with his hat?

  74. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 8:15 pm

Rumors of Overbey turning into a pumpkin have been greatly exaggerated.

    :)

I would say the same about the rumored fall frost for all of the supposed pumpkins.

I predict their growing season will continue to flourish! Don’t let downtime throw you.

  83. Niblick June 3rd, 2013 at 8:19 pm

I do a really good job of ignoring all of the ongoing stupidity you post on this blog, I gave up years ago responding to any of it.

I would strongly suggest you do the same or your remarks will be open season for me, including the hour you spent on Friday insisting a call that was right (the force play at 2nd base) was wrong even though everyone else knew with 100% certainty that it was correct.

  107. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2013 at 8:28 pm

For me, I think the issues brought up about Tex are related to the fact that many believed he would be going back-to-back with Cano through at least 2014-15. The expectations were he would carry the O. I don’t think many were too miffed about him until they started playing to a budget and contract like his make him a clear target.

    WTF was going on there?!

    stands are EMPTY

Yankee attendance is down 2900 per game on average. 2.5 times the league average. Among the 19 times with lower attendance this year they are ninth.

Theres something going on. At the game last night, i sit in 322, waiter service in 321. Before the game, a girl comes over and says she will be our waitress. If we order with her, we get free refills on our sodas and every one gets free peanuts and popcorn for the game. This from a team that wouldnt give away snow in the winter

  117. Niblick June 3rd, 2013 at 8:33 pm

Darn Romine. He can’t get the ball over the plate.

  118. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 8:33 pm

  121. jackamir June 3rd, 2013 at 8:34 pm

  122. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 8:34 pm

Andy should have made a rehab start so he is able to throw 90 pitches. But obviously the Yanks don’t make the veterans do normal things.

“True but ppl on here have said much worse.”

Probably in more than two words though.

Those two words pack a condescending nasty little punch.

I think the “screw you” was unnecessary. On the other hand, I don’t much care if someone happily emotes when their favorite player does something good when others have been calling for his head. I have no problem with that.

  143. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 8:39 pm

Adams is not used to playing 3rd base but he is still better than Youk

  144. ac1 June 3rd, 2013 at 8:39 pm

More and more im thinking the yankees will make a play for cliff lee. Andy looks like he will be a risk all year. Cc and lee anchoring the rotation next year will allow them to deal with the offense.

  145. Pat M. June 3rd, 2013 at 8:40 pm

No way can you pin this on Adams as that’s a 1 in 100 pick

  146. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 8:40 pm

Andy’s first game back. As long as he is okay, we should manage to get out of this.

  147. ac1 June 3rd, 2013 at 8:40 pm

Adams is a fine defender. Those two hits at him were darts.

  148. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 8:41 pm

The good news is that the bats are working.

  149. jlyanks85 June 3rd, 2013 at 8:41 pm

Andy had got to be able to hold a 4-1 lead. He knows how bad we’ve been playing. Coming off the DL or not he needed to hold this. Yanks might score another run tonight.

I agree, but whats the play? Also how much $ do the Phils pick up.

  153. Niblick June 3rd, 2013 at 8:42 pm

Don’t blame Adams. He didn’t throw 10 balls in a row.

  154. mick June 3rd, 2013 at 8:42 pm

prolly his 1st chance on 2 balls hit like that…next time he’ll get em.

  155. theREALkevin June 3rd, 2013 at 8:42 pm

That might have been a tough play but there’s no way it’s 1 in 100. And overall Adams has shown he needs work defensively. Too often he doesn’t square up the ball, he tries to field it to the side way too often. He looked decent at first but the reports before he came up that he was below average defensively are started to look more correct

  156. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 8:42 pm

Kelly has to get this batter out. Can’t give up another 2 runs here and fall behind.

  157. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 8:42 pm

Maybe Andy was not really ready to come back. Once again, the Yanks short the number of starts players get before they return. It isn’t like we couldn’t have had Nuno for another start.

I’ll be stunned if the Yanks don’t score more runs tonight. Seriously.

  158. Ys Guy June 3rd, 2013 at 8:42 pm

In my personal experience the Yankees have been bringing players back too soon since the 1960′s. I remember when they brought Maris back early from a hand injury. Around 1963 as I recall. Never was the same after that.

  173. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2013 at 8:47 pm

Ys – I wonder why they didn’t give him a rehab start.

  174. jlyanks85 June 3rd, 2013 at 8:47 pm

That check swing by Santana was a swing. How did the ump not see that. We should still be up 4-2.

  175. mick June 3rd, 2013 at 8:48 pm

well the players and mgrs rave about the atmosphere in the stadium so thats good enough for me….there’s too much noise at sporting events anyway….those who understand the game don’t need noise.

  176. cogen777 June 3rd, 2013 at 8:48 pm

I never thought Kim Jones had a horse face either. She’s hot. I always go over and stand beside the visitors dugout when she does her pre game.

  177. Ys Guy June 3rd, 2013 at 8:49 pm

lee is 34 and is owed just about $105M at this point assuming the club takes the $12.5M buyout for 2016.

imo it would be a horrible mistake to take on that contract.

  178. Tar June 3rd, 2013 at 8:51 pm

“I wonder why they didn’t give him a rehab start.”

They have been making desperate moves all year long. I don’t think it’s worked out yet. I Understand bringing Tex and Youk back early because they really are desperate, but not with the pitching.

  179. Niblick June 3rd, 2013 at 8:52 pm

    Yes it would be horrible.

  182. jlyanks85 June 3rd, 2013 at 8:53 pm

Go down easy of course. This is why they couldn’t afford to blow a 4-1 lead. I don’t know if this offense is capable of scoring another couple runs today.

  183. Ys Guy June 3rd, 2013 at 8:53 pm

also lee can block trades to 21 teams each season, you can be sure the yankees are one of them so the last year option of his deal would likely have to be picked up by the yankees so make it $118M.

  184. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 8:54 pm

Hafner should be on the DL. I really doubt that he is healthy.

  188. Shame Spencer June 3rd, 2013 at 8:56 pm

Tar – Yeah, I agree the offensive upgrades are at least more understandable.. They could have gone with Nuno for one more start and given Andy some time to get a little more comfortable. Andy is gonna wanna come back.. he’s a competitor. But he’s not a young fella anymore.. your body doesn’t just get into game shape.

  189. joecembrale June 3rd, 2013 at 8:57 pm

Lee wants to stay on east coast preferably north.

  190. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 8:57 pm

Either the Yanks rush guys back or they let the players have too much input in decisions. Nuno should have started tonight while Andy had a rehab start. The bullpen is being used a lot recently and knowing that you are only going to get 80 pitches from Andy wasn’t going to help.

  191. ac1 June 3rd, 2013 at 8:58 pm

  196. jlyanks85 June 3rd, 2013 at 9:01 pm

You can never have enough starters, but. TheYankees need hitters more than anything now.

Plus lee has had a chance to come here already and chose the phillies. Why would he want to come here all of a sudden now on a yankee team that isn’t as good?

  197. joeman June 3rd, 2013 at 9:01 pm

ESPN is typically brutal, but I forgot to mention last night how impressed I was with Kruk and him speaking about his issues with tesitcular c@ncer. Having dealt with that very personally in my family it was nice to hear him be so vocal about it. I’m not sure why people thought something so important was wrong for him to voice, but I sure liked it. Thumbs up Mr. Kruk.

BP huge strength this year has to hold now. 6 runs should be more than enough to win a game. Offense did well tonight. Helps when Tex puts 4 of them up there. Otherwise 2 runs is still pretty stinky.

  228. Tar June 3rd, 2013 at 9:16 pm

Romine needs to keep playing ( and yes I was fine with easing him in, but thats over now).

He needs to get comfortable with his defense so that the Yankees can see what they have with his bat. We know what we have with Stewart, and that is not going to cut it.

Not sure why so many on here were so quick to write him off.

  229. mick June 3rd, 2013 at 9:16 pm

And jwhat was Masterson doing there?
    ================
he sure wasn’t backing up his catcher, which is where he should have been, he won’t win any gold gloves.

  230. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 9:17 pm

Oh crap here comes Mr. slider

  231. Russell Munson June 3rd, 2013 at 9:17 pm

  232. vc 11 June 3rd, 2013 at 9:18 pm

Small body of work. Haha, that’s about the only “small body” about Joba!

  233. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 9:18 pm

Joba is like the right handed version of Logan…you never know what you are going to get.

  234. exiledintampa June 3rd, 2013 at 9:18 pm

C’mon Joba. Get that value up.

  235. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 9:19 pm

bruceb – I’m trusting that Robby will come back around the way some of the other bats are. You must feel a lot better tonight seeing the way the offense has responded.

Major kudos to jacksquat and Doreen today who basically counseled that things weren’t as bad as a lot of fans believed they were and that things would unequivocally pick up. If others counseled the same thing, kudos to you too!

austinmac, I’d be interested in hearing anything you might have to say about tonight’s performance and whether you are considering it an aberration.

  236. UpState June 3rd, 2013 at 9:19 pm

Come on Joba. As an Official member of your Crew 62 fan club I am cheering you on.

  238. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 9:20 pm

I wish Girardi would trust Claiborne enough to let him pitch the 7th inning. He has earned it and Joba only pitches it because of his name and not what he has done.

  239. bruceb June 3rd, 2013 at 9:21 pm

I do feel a lot better, Trisha, but as a member of Team Greedy (and one desperate for a win), I want every damn insurance run I can get, especially with Robby up at the plate.

  240. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 9:21 pm

  244. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 9:24 pm

Joba’s stuff is so good and so natural. I do not know why people here don’t like him.

And I say that no matter what this inning brings. Joba is a pitcher.

He has good stuff but he gets himself into trouble. He needs to throw what the catcher calls because when he shakes them off to throw sliders in the dirt and he gets hurt.

  249. pkyankfan69 June 3rd, 2013 at 9:26 pm

Joba is throwing the ball really well… If we can just get a few leads into the late innings our BP should be dominant.

  250. mick June 3rd, 2013 at 9:26 pm

Joba is huge but he has been staying away from Twitter, good job!

love jeter but i never thought he was selective enough as a leadoff man. he was often the best option at leadoff, but he never saw enough pitches and k’s a bit too much to be a great leadoff hitter.

i always liked him better as a #2 hitter.

  277. cogen777 June 3rd, 2013 at 9:37 pm

Just tuned in last inning. How has Overbay looked in RF?

He looks the same as he always does. Much the same as the picture on his baseball card.

  278. mick June 3rd, 2013 at 9:38 pm

jeter is a 1st pitch hitter and his average was surprisingly high.

  279. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 9:38 pm

A lot of fun- in a good way. I think the only thing that went in his direction was a line drive double.

  280. Captain Clutch June 3rd, 2013 at 9:39 pm

Will be fun to watch it play out!

  284. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 9:43 pm

Ys Guy, there were quite a few people who believed (and still believe) that pumpkin status for the team has arrived.

From my perspective, that’s not going to happen.

    Mastered-son this time haha.

Adams playing everyday = A-Rod out of here after this season somehow/way?

I mean, why keep playing Adams at 3B everyday with Youkilis back?

It’s like the Yanks want to see what a young, cheap guy under control through 201? could do at 3B – oh wait…

  294. Ys Guy June 3rd, 2013 at 9:52 pm

    Mick,

I was enjoying the game tonight. Thanks for asking.

  318. Ghostwriter June 3rd, 2013 at 10:25 pm

Nice win. It’s nice to see them work over a pitcher drawing some walks, as well as banging out 10 hits. However, they still aren’t taking enough pitches.

I still can’t believe that the Yanks put Overbay in the OF. I think that it was a ballsy move, and a good one. If they manage it correctly, I think that it could wind up working out quite nicely for the the most part.

  319. Tyler June 3rd, 2013 at 10:26 pm

Anybody see Martin get thrown out in Atlanta tonight? Really did nothing wrong and Burnett was getting squeezed. More bad umpiring for MLB to deal with.

  320. Ghostwriter June 3rd, 2013 at 10:29 pm

Nothing wrong with that. I just don’t like the picture being painted. You aren’t a troll like some posters on here disguise themselves as. I mean we have game threads where you can read the post and tell the person is not a Yankee fan. Do others like you like to come here day after day and be negative about what you see? You’ve probably been a fan longer than you’re been an adult lol.

    I do agree.

You know I process on a different level from time to time. :D

So I’m thinking that this lineup loosened up when it realized that Overbey was still going to be in there swinging and Hafner is back at DH. The lineup is still pretty much the lineup.

That said, I am willing to watch things continue to unfold. And I know you well enough to know that despite what you proffered today, you are the first person willing to say “I hope I’m wrong” or “Glad I called it wrong!”

We have time. Of course, I’m optimistic that you will be glad, ha ha.

    AAO,

I appreciate it. Yes, I remember when they traded for Maris. We were both left handed hitters, both played RF, both wore number 9 and had the same birthdate. Unfortunately, the similarities ended there.

  353. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 3rd, 2013 at 10:49 pm

MTU – put on those rose colored glasses!

Things are looking up. This lineup can continue to achieve, not to worry.

The kids will make it up in time. No wine before its time.

Let them continue to get the experience they need down below. Before you know it, they’ll be with the team. And the time will be right. If you can win the game with the hand you’ve been dealt – even if you lose a few hands before you take the game – why switch things up?

Anyway, JMO. I respect and understand your perspective.

I’m happy to keep things the way they are as long as we can, since this is the team we’ve fielded this season. Tonight shows me this lineup isn’t dead.

Just me opinion, and it flows easily on a night like tonight.

  361. NYY_Girl_Penny June 3rd, 2013 at 10:53 pm

before the season started i very much disliked this team.. in April they made me eat my words and gladly! they were a lot of fun to watch play.. Something I haven’t seen in a very long time the Yankees! Then after a little bit of struggling it seems like Kevin Long and crew return them back into the homerun hero club without the power. another very boring and uneventful team to watch play now instead of hungry passionate go-getter team that went out there and played good hard fun ball.

And what happens to Robinson when the team needs a most he disappears. Tex just did the thing he has become, that once in a while homerun and a lot of the nothing else offense. I don’t see this as a phase or temp streak! The entire team sitting around .250 or less except for Ca-nope .280-ish . I honestly think that catalog or somebody turn them into focus on hit homeruns only and they broke. I’d take that hungry no name April team any day of the week they were a lot of fun to watch. Seriously what happened and who’s to blame I have no idea but it’s boring team again.

Lastly if they give Robinson Cano 200 million+ or over six years I’m done with giving these guys my $$ for their ridiculous stadium n seating BS! Aside from 2009 the post Steinbrenner era is just not the Yankees I desire to see and love.. There’s just so many little problems that add up to be major big problems. And my rant is concluded.

    I heart Andy Pettitte!

  377. theREALkevin June 3rd, 2013 at 11:08 pm

“Overbay looked fine. Glad he wasn’t DFA’d.”

He wasn’t tested at all in RF. The only balls hit his way were a double in the alley that a speedy RF possibly could have gotten to, and the other was a routine pop up that he had to run a few steps in to catch. It was a play that would have been easy for David Ortiz if he had been asked to play RF. We’ll see how Overbay looks when he has to deal with some actual difficult plays.

Disagree, disagree, disagree, disagree, disagree. And I don’t know what particular day you were talking about, but I remember the manager putting Freddy in, not Phelps, and you eventually even agreeing that Phelps could help the most out of the pen.

Everything in its time. When Freddy could no longer cut it, he was put in the pen. But not before.

It’s the same thing as people here always clamoring to “bring the kids up”. Well you don’t bring the kids up before they’re ready to come up!

I always said I felt Phelps would be ready for the rotation this season and I definitely wanted him there.
