CC Sabathia is back in the Bay Area, which means he inevitably has some sort of charitable event planned.
Today, Sabathia and his wife, Amber — through their PitCCh In Foundation — will dedicate and re-open a renovated basketball court in honor of Sabathia’s cousin, Demetrius C. Davis, who passed away last December. The court is in Vallejo, where Sabathia grew up and remains involved in the community. Following the dedication, there will be a 3-on-3 tournament to raise money for a college scholarship fund for the Davis family children.
From the PitCCh In Foundation: Demetrius loved the city of Vallejo and spent countless hours playing basketball with family and friends. He was a graduate of Vallejo High School and the University of Nevada at Reno He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders and played for the Barcelona Dragons in the World League. He then served as an executive adjustor for Carl Warren Company. He was a family man and the father to four children.
Hard not to respect Sabathia’s dedication to his hometown and people who grew up with him. He has the start in tomorrow’s series opener against the A’s.
