No one could have possibly foreseen that Youk might have a re-occurrence of back problems when they signed him for $12m. Oh wait…

It’s hard to have confidence in their decision-making.

  2. Patrick June 14th, 2013 at 6:41 pm

As many predicted, the Youkilis signing was a waste of money because the guy is just too injury prone

  3. ac1 June 14th, 2013 at 6:41 pm

The fact they didnt see this after his 5th AB last night was crazy. He looked pained in his last 3 ABs.

  4. ac1 June 14th, 2013 at 6:42 pm

While they are at it, they should look at Hafner’s back too.
He has looked equally painful as Youkilis.

  5. Doreen June 14th, 2013 at 6:42 pm

Whoa. Youk on DL and Adams to AAA? Who Is playing third? I really am getting confused.

  6. hbcobra June 14th, 2013 at 6:43 pm

18 innings for Youk yesterday. No surprise, as he can barely make it through 9 normally.

  7. ac1 June 14th, 2013 at 6:43 pm

Adams isnt going to AAA. This morning it was supposed to be Neal for Adams but I guess they determined Youk was hurt and now Adams appears to be staying.

  8. Warning Track Power June 14th, 2013 at 6:44 pm

i had a feeling Youk was still hurt. during the game yesterday, maybe the 16th inning, there was a camera shot of him in the field where he was trying to stretch his back and appeared
to be in pain. not sure if that was caught by anybody else.
of course that explains his horrible day at the plate yesterday.
    S.O.B.

all of you who are pro-Adams, well the kid has another 2 weeks of at bats to impress
    and become a star.

  9. ac1 June 14th, 2013 at 6:45 pm

WTP is going to slurp Youkilis until the end.

  10. tomingeorgia June 14th, 2013 at 6:45 pm

Am I to understand that the Yankees demoted their second-string 3B the same day they disabled the starter? That means Nixie and Briggy to the rescue, doesn’t it?

he was sacrificed for the benefit of the young.

  12. ac1 June 14th, 2013 at 6:46 pm

His bad back explains his 0-8 last night?
Oh so what about the other 2 months? His average is somewhere near .220. That takes more than one bad game.

It is very likely that his back hasn’t been 100% since the initial injury.

    ac1-

So that’s the reason Youkillus stood there and took a called strike three a few times last night.

  15. ac1 June 14th, 2013 at 6:47 pm

Railraiders are 5 players short tonight.
    Yikes.

  16. mick June 14th, 2013 at 6:47 pm

OK , so Youk is down, that leaves Neal for Wells. Adams is now in play.
    Who is the RH DH?

  17. mick June 14th, 2013 at 6:49 pm

girardi successfully euthanized youk for 18 innings.
    the DL is our friend…

    …couldn’t kill Wells tho.

Musty is next in line…necessity is the mother of invention.

    How old are you? Twelve-Teen

Are you familiar with his injury? Are you certain you know when the injury occurred
and when he was no longer injured?
Don’t pretend you’re a GM of a MLB team and don’t pretend you are the team physician and
stop pretending you know anything about the situation.
Give Youk a break. He’s had a bad back this season. One would think that injury would
affect this hitting in a negative way.

He also hit .100 for the 7 games before he hurt his back the first time.

Pretty much.. it seems likely that he hurt his back, kept playing for a week then went on the DL and it just hasn’t gotten back to 100%

  25. tucker June 14th, 2013 at 6:54 pm

Bull Durham was released 25 years ago this weekend.

So, in honor of that great baseball flick, here’s hoping the Yanks’ lineup hits a few steak-worthy drives to the right-field bleachers. But I’d settle for some ground balls with eyes while runners are in scoring position.

No, it looked that way but Adams is staying. Doesn’t mean he’ll play though. I’ll bet he’ll platoon with Brignac. Nix will play 3rd and Brignac SS against RH pitching.

Wells is not a loafer , he’s just inept in the field.
He let a fly drop after 4 2/3′s of CC’s perfecto , he does/can not reach fly balls.
He should have made the throw to 3rd but that required quick reflexes.
He said it was b/c he didn’t want the runner to advance to 2nd when 1 run wins it.

Jose Ramirez pitching to his battery mate Murphy. Wouldn’t that be exciting to see them playing well together with the Yankees this summer?

Kevin Youkilis Injury: Red Sox Third Baseman On DL With Bad Back

So maybe they could have had some tiny little clue he had back issues. There are probably more stories about this, but no one is going to change anyone’s mind that no one could have known this guy was on the downside of his career, probably hastened by back issues.

After all, it’s not as though bad backs ever affected players before, like say, Mattingly and a basketball player who was once pretty good before his back gave out named Larry Bird.

Pat — KT has certainly made some bold moves since he took the helm, and many of them have paid off — like Didi Gregorius, who looks like a solid young shortstop.

I’m curious what was behind the Justin Upton trade. The owner called out Upton, which is a highly unusual thing to do. You also have to wonder if J-Up clashed with other team members or Kirk Gibson.

I guess none of us really thought Adams would be down for long. I’d say it’s 50/50 Youk’s season is over. Just write it off.

Two things to pray for. Neal gets a couple hits tonight and can’t be removed from lineup and Almonte gets red hot in Scranton. He’s currently OPSing .821 against right-handers and .834 with RISP. Pretty sure the Yanks can’t use that.

The history was there. Disc issues too. I am not a doctor but have suffered (I mean that) from disc problems in the past and luckily after several years have it under control. However I am not a athlete and certainly not as active as an athlete has to be.
Backs have taken out many great players. Numerous people I talked too considered the signing very risky.

Doreen-I believe it to be true.
Wells is next on his hit list.

It seems these days, in baseball anyway, star players don’t have the sway they had once, when they clash with the field boss. Not certain exactly how I feel about that?
Jeter used to say, “Mr. Torre drives the bus.”

Same here. Spent two years with disc issues and it also took a couple of years before I could get back to normal activities. To this day I’m really careful doing anything that might tweak it.

And I’m not trying to be a professional baseball player. I’m just trying to live a normal life.

    Good.
This shows they are thinking of a Neal/Musty platoon for LF/DH.

I thought they both hit RH?

I think Musty should def be playing 3rd base in AAA now. Youk is going to be out an extended period of time. If Adams doesn’t work out Musty would be a good backup plan. The Yanks already have Neal, Almonte and hopefully in the near future Bosch in the outfield.

tucker…….word was that Gibson didn’t think Justin gave 100% all the time, kind of dogged it on occasions plus he was used to set the example in the clubhouse. players liked him though but he did keep his distance from the guys. gibby is old school upton is of the new breed.

Good point. Extra IF too. Does Joseph play 3B and is he still a factor?
