Red Sox Yankees Baseball

Yankees fans will have to wait one more day to see Don Mattingly manage at Yankee Stadium for the first time.

The official announcement just came through that the Yankees series opener with the Los Angeles Dodgers has been postponed due to rain. The game will be made up tomorrow as part of a split doubleheader. The first game will begin at 1 p.m., with the second game starting at 7.

Seems like most everything Cashman does or says nowadays just annoys the hell out of me.

It never used to be like that with him. He was a humble and likable guy throughout most of his tenure as the GM but his demeanor has really changed the last few years.

Maybe he’s grown tired of this gig and needs to move on.

    I’ll help him pack.

It would be, and if I thought they’d have the patience to develop them, it would be harder to make the trade.

    ——-

That’s a fair point that adds another wrinkle to your thought process.

Talented youngsters are much harder to deal when you believe they have a real shot to develop in pinstripes.

This front office doesn’t seem willing to exhibit that kind of patience.

If you really believe Nuno is the only major leaguer in the bunch or that he’s the best pitching prospect in the system then you should be ignored in all further discussions on these subjects.

Nuno is a nice story and good for him but there are at least 10 others who are better prospects than him by a mile.

Surprised that the yanks promoted Arcia to Trenton ahead of Sanchez…I still think he gets the call in the next couple of weeks.

Well at least we’re going have a more predictable lineup for a while, or one that knows it’s going to be playing!

    :)

    That’s nothing but good.

    *************

GF – I was gone from the forum for quite a while because of the major negative events (no need to enumerate) so it’s possible that Bodhi had started to develop an edge of which I was unaware.

I know for sure I haven’t changed! In fact the first day I ever came here, way back when, I was met with a hailstorm of criticism (called stupid and everything else) for suggesting that Wang was inconsistent with his pitching. Ironically, the person who was most supportive and receptive was G. Love. Probably because he thought I was from the complaining school of thought.

In any event, it’s obvious that people on forums bond for different reasons. It’s quite easy to understanding bonding with people with like thoughts and ideas. It’s also quite easy to understand feeling discordant with people whose thoughts and ideas are diametrically opposed to ours. And add personal characteristics to the mix, well it gets even more muddied. Some are cordial despite feeling differently about things, others not so cordial.

C’est la vie – or sometimes more appropriately, la guerre!

  20. Niblick June 18th, 2013 at 7:51 pm

Champ – you’re welcome to ignore whatever you want. In fact I encourage you to do so.

And you’re welcome to be as delusional as you want about the quality of the players in the Yankees farm system. I don’t think Nuno is going to be a star; I merely mentioned him because he has, in fact, performed well for the Yankees this year, but I guess you’ve forgotten that already. Despite what you might believe, or want to believe, there is very little talent in the system and it is highly unlikely that any of the current minor leaguers will play more than a handful of games for the Yankees.

  23. Frankg June 18th, 2013 at 8:11 pm

Who knows how good Nuno will be? A few years ago, some might have said Brackman, Banuelos, and Betances had more potential. Nuno has one important thing going for him that the others don’t—he’s won at the big league level.

  24. champ809 June 18th, 2013 at 8:14 pm

Clearly someone who has no idea what a future professional ballplayer looks like.

And I haven’t forgotten anything that Nuno has done I just also haven’t forgotten how low his ceiling is as a viable major league starting pitcher in the AL east.

  25. champ809 June 18th, 2013 at 8:16 pm

    FrankG

The “others” haven’t seen the opportunity yet to start a game at the big league level. Banuelos and Bettances do in fact have more potential than Nuno…..that’s just a fact

Wow, Champ, I guess you must be a major league scout, because you know all so much about what a professional ballplayer looks like. Did you obtain all your incredibly vast knowledge watching games on TV in your mommy’s basement? Give it a rest. Unless your Gene Michael, you don’t know anything more than anyone else. If you did, you’d put such knowledge to good use instead of cluttering this blog.

Mad, he’s got to start tomorrow with the twin bill. He’ll likely play in the night game because it will be against RHP. I hope they put him in RF – best place for him an his arm. Would love to see him put one in the right-field seats, but I also hope he doesn’t hack too much, lol. What would be nice is if he is here to stay.

    Question: is Heyward a bust?

  39. Ys Guy June 18th, 2013 at 9:28 pm

interesting use of the roster rules by the mets today.
when you play a doubleheader you are now allowed to add a 26th player for the second game of the DH only. that one extra player is allowed to play game 2 then go back to the minors and is then exempt from the 10 games till you can be called up again rule.

the mets inteded to add wheeler to their roster but added him as the 26th man, so he could start tonight, get taken off the active roster after the game and still be eligable to be called up again any day.
they actually intend to pitch him the next time the rotation spot comes around again next monday, so he’s off the mets roster till his next start when they can add him again and drop someone else. it gives them an extra player for the 5 days in between.

  40. Ys Guy June 18th, 2013 at 9:30 pm

let’s not get carried away, now. even if you count wheeler as a major league caliber player, that would give the mets 4 on that level (alright, ill count murphy and make it 5)

  41. Ys Guy June 18th, 2013 at 9:33 pm

no way heyward is a bust at 23. was domonic brown a bust at 23?

  42. Pat M. June 18th, 2013 at 9:36 pm

I remember SJ always telling me to keep an eye on the Almonte kid, is he getting the call ????

  43. Ys Guy June 18th, 2013 at 9:37 pm

jesus montero is not a bust at 23 either, although he may well be a failed catcher.

  44. J. Alfred Prufrock June 18th, 2013 at 9:37 pm

    Yep, they’ve called Zoilo up.

Hope they have the sense to put him in RF and I hope they demonstrate some patience with him. If they let him stick around, he could stick around :)

  45. Ys Guy June 18th, 2013 at 9:38 pm

  46. mick June 18th, 2013 at 9:40 pm

who will we call up as our #26?

  47. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 18th, 2013 at 9:42 pm

Ys or Pat M – how is Almonte’s D? Do you know?

  48. yankeefeminista June 18th, 2013 at 9:43 pm

Nice #’s for Wheeler and of course, Harvey. It’s a kiddie day all around. Myers got his first hit. Archer and Odorizzi pitched/are pitching for the Rays. We will see one of these Rays kids, and maybe even Colome. We will need to work the count and not swing at pitches outside the zone, especially if we see Archer. Another kid pitcher in Gausman goes again for O’s tomorrow. Good to see Zoilo up.

Odds, why would Heyward be a bust? He’s only 23. He had appendix surgery and was out, but is killing it in June. He just needs to stay healthy if he can… And that recent SLG. is looking good.

I can’t believe they are supposedly starting the Sally ASG at 9:45PM in Lakewood (NJ). I feel sorry for those who bought tickets to the game, considering it was supposed to start almost 3 hours ago.

  49. yankeefeminista June 18th, 2013 at 9:44 pm

I’d be a little afraid to put Zoilo in LF at NYS…

Rays and Odorizzi are hanging in there. They had better not let Sux sweep them.

    True Heyward is still young.

  61. J. Alfred Prufrock June 18th, 2013 at 9:56 pm

Gausman’s arm is crazy. Pitches down in the zone and hits 98 and had a very good changeup when I saw him in Trenton. The Orioles, w/Gausman and Bundy, and that middle order, are going to be scary next year.

  62. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 18th, 2013 at 9:56 pm

Bo – the Yankees seem quite adept at resurrecting talent!

  63. Ys Guy June 18th, 2013 at 9:57 pm

gausman has made only 8 minor league starts above A ball, none in AAA. he’s only 22.

the orioles have not had even as much success as the yankees in developing pitching despite thier advantage in drafting way ahead of ny (due to their chronic suckiness)

  64. J. Alfred Prufrock June 18th, 2013 at 9:57 pm

F-Mart’s only 24 and we dealt a reliever for him.

  65. Niblick June 18th, 2013 at 9:58 pm

I think they acquired Martinez to make Romine, Brignac, Adams, Nixy, Ichy, Wells, Stewie, et al feel better about their hitting.

  66. yankeefeminista June 18th, 2013 at 10:00 pm

Think they just want depth at AAA; F-Mart filling in because of the call up. I know little about Basford.

Norris says still might be a few weeks until Sanchez gets called up to AA. Just as long as he is coming. I wouldn’t have minded seeing him in the same game as Pineda in Trenton next week, but they probably wouldn’t let Sanchez catch Pineda.

  67. Against All Odds June 18th, 2013 at 10:03 pm

  72. yankeefeminista June 18th, 2013 at 10:06 pm

Bo, I haven’t really watched F-Mart’s play. Have you any theories.

Almonte can be way too aggressive in the field and then he sometimes makes really good plays but he was particularly bad in ST.

  73. J. Alfred Prufrock June 18th, 2013 at 10:06 pm

Gausman, Jo-Ram and Matt Barnes have all managed to really separate themselves in their AA appearances down here. Barnes and Gausman had command problems in their starts, but you can see how good both those guys are. Jo-Ram, of course, was pretty much a man among boys down here. Sorry to have lost him, but he doesn’t need to stick around Trenton.

  74. yankeefeminista June 18th, 2013 at 10:08 pm

    ////

He’s aggressive everywhere – at the plate, on the bases, in the OF. Definitely has some problems with that going in and out on balls, but it works for him at the plate and on the bags. If they’d give him a real chance, and can abide his OF adventures, he can be a lefty power bat in the OF. They were willing to let Youk play 3B, so what the hell. At least Almonte’s young and may improve his D.

  78. yankeefeminista June 18th, 2013 at 10:10 pm

J-Ram lately has walked more batters, some WP, HBP but thankfully velo’s still there. Just seems like he isn’t commanding pitches as well. Atypically has been giving up homeruns too. Started on the road, so didn’t see the starts. Barnes is pitching tonight. Not sure how he did.

  79. tbone1570 June 18th, 2013 at 10:10 pm
