Montgomery back on the DL in a flurry of Triple-A moves

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Jun 21, 2013 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees just announced a flurry of moves including a handful of promotions, demotions, signings and DL assignments. Included in that announcement was a line saying that Manny Banuelos was put on the 60-day disabled list, but Brian Cashman said that’s not the case. No one has been put on the 60-day. Cashman said in spring training that he was hoping to avoiding have to 60-day Banuelos because of service time concerns.

Here are the moves from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre…

To the big leagues
INF Alberto Gonzalez signed and selected from SWB to New York Yankees

Acquired for Triple-A
OF Corey Patterson signed by New York Yankees and assigned to Scranton
RHP Yoshinori Tateyama acquired from Texas and assigned to Scranton
LHP Mike Zagurski signed by New York Yankees and assigned to Scranton

Promoted to Triple-A
RHP Zach Nuding received from Double-A Trenton
RHP Fred Lewis received from Double-A Trenton

Sent to Double-A
RHP Caleb Cotham transferred to Double-A Trenton
RHP Jose Ramirez transferred to Double-A Trenton

Disabled list moves
INF Josh Bell placed on disabled list retroactive to June 19
RHP Mark Montgomery placed on disabled list retroactive to June 19

While Cano isn’t speaking abut contract talks publicly, he is said to have suggested to some friends that he’d like somewhere in the neighborhood of $275 million — yes, the very same as the famed Alex Rodriguez Yankees contract. The Yankees aren’t believed to be anywhere near that neighborhood and, in fact, at one point suggested something a lot closer to the neighborhood of a different New York infielder, David Wright, who signed his $138 million, eight-year Mets contract last winter with a year to go before free agency.

  2. DONNYBROOK June 21st, 2013 at 6:19 pm

I would expect the Yanks to deal with a free agent Cano No differently than they did with free agent Jeet. Cage Match

Ok but know that I have no idea how to use it…..of course if you sip enough Jack you won’t know the difference

Monty, why o why? at least we have Patterson and Martinez to look forward to. Hope something clicks with Martinez and at least becomes our mcclouth version or better.

  6. DONNYBROOK June 21st, 2013 at 6:26 pm

Yanks had both Maxwell and Dickerson and let ‘em walk. Even when they stumble onto something, they manage to botch it.

  7. MTU June 21st, 2013 at 6:26 pm

Yankees putting filler into their AAA apple pie.

I thought J-Ram was to stay at AAA ?

  8. Jerkface June 21st, 2013 at 6:27 pm

I’m not sure if you saw it, but Pat M. had said that their “thinking” is that Pineda can be close to Darvish in three years, but they opted for Pineda over Darvish for “accounting” reasons.

He is going to be a free agent in 3 years so whatever, dumb plan. So their idea was to pass on 6 years of Darvish for someone that could AT best be Darvish for 1-2 years? Not great decision making.

I don’t know why either idea need to even be in competition with each other. They could have grabbed Pineda and Darvish, future ace stacked rotation! Darvish and Darvish 2.0 (without the 3 other good pitches)

    Ray-

It’s just a theory and probably a wrong one.

As Nick pointed out there are several other possible explanations for the behavior.

Each of which is a simpler one than the one I proposed.

Usually the simplest explanation is the best one.

    ;)

  10. DONNYBROOK June 21st, 2013 at 6:29 pm

I’m still pissed Texas pushed Darvish back to Tuesday. It’s gonna be like Koufax back in “63″.

LOL! I concur with what you are saying but I think we are more in agreement than perhaps you believe.

The late 70′s model Yankees were depleted in the miLB almost totally. Billy Martin pitched the miLB talent they did have until their arms fell off. He ruined some great or IMO soon to be great pitchers.

Stick put the team back together by building the miLB with real talent. All the names you stated & more. They also maintained the core players by paying them top dollar. You didn’t hear poverty signals from the FO. FA added to the core.

The Yanks now operate more like the RSox. They trash their players when they become FA & they nickle & dime them with shame as well. They now bypass on younger FA & older ones too that could help.

You can’t do only one side of things & expect to be champions. Stick made the Yankees great again. He was using the 50′s & early 60′s model of the Yankees even though they didn’t have FA then, the Yanks always traded money & youngsters for just the right fading star or huge prospect. The model works!

Something must be in the Yankee water (or koolaid?) this season because they aren’t exactly getting stellar production from most of their key minor league prospects either.

It’s an epidemic throughout the organization.

Nobody is stupid enough to give Cano that kind of cheddar. A deal much closer to Wright’s extension is a lot closer to reality.

  19. RayVT June 21st, 2013 at 6:38 pm

The funny thing is with all the Yanks haven’t done they are only 2 games out in the loss column. I guess that is what makes it even more frustrating because if they had signed a RH bat or 2 they might be in 1st!

I think cano might could get 200 if he has a good rest if the year and if his agent plays it right…..but the Yanks are probably gonna play hardball and I hope they do.

Cano may have already peaked…..and the yanks have to be careful

While I agree with you, it was never about current value or future value with the Yanks in prior years. The fact that Cano has played all these years with the Yanks for magnitudes less dollars than he deserves is why the old regime would have paid up. It is called Loyalty. Too many of us have drunk or are thinking about drinking the coolaid of austerity. It is the jerks in the FO of Beantown that does this kind of crapping on their players. (Roger, Wade, Nomar, Fisk, Lynn, etc) It isn’t the Brand of the Yankees to be dirty & cheap. (Winfield not withstanding!) The Brand is worth $3B, not the stadium or even location. If MLB would let Mark Cuban buy the Mets he could have their Brand worth $2B to $3B within a few years or less IMO. That would truly detract from a depleted Yankee team & franchise. Also, what if MLB decided to move a 3rd team into NY from say Tampa? They could kill/cripple a weakened Yankee Brand with that concept.

No matter how well or poorly Cano plays the rest of this season, I really hope the
Yankees DO NOT give Cano more than 5 years.
Unless the ARod deal is null and voided, then maybe I might agree with a contract for
    7 years or more.

I don’t know if this is new news or you all already heard it but I know I was really kind of shocked. Jose Valverde DFA.

I wonder if any team will pick him up.

Also in the bad news/good news camp – good for us, bad for the Sux – David Ross suffered his 2nd concussion so he won’t be catching for a while. It’s not good news that he suffered a concussion, just good news that he’s out of their lineup.

Also, Uehara is going to start to close for the Sux. I don’t know that I consider that good news for us because I’ve really been impressed by his pitching.

Okay, that’s my WEEI report for the day.

I’d like Warren if it has to be between Nova and Warren. I’d like Nuno also.

    HI RAY!!!!! :)

I think Joey G. has gotten religion.

  38. RayVT June 21st, 2013 at 6:52 pm

    Hello Trish!
The RSox would have been far better to keep Papelbohn! Luckily they are fairly stupid in their FO. I expect them to fold like the old RSox around AS break or a week or two after that.

  39. Warning Track Power June 21st, 2013 at 6:52 pm

I sort of want to see Nova pitch on Sunday.
Then again Warren has done a fine job out of the pen as the long man.
Could be a situation where Nova starts and Warren is getting loose

Come to Jesus meetings can be kind of scary! Perhaps that is why Monte… went to Seattle! LOL! Sorry!

  42. mick June 21st, 2013 at 6:53 pm

The release of brainiac was a work of genius.
It frees up Adams and Nix to everyday status and puts Gonzalez in his Nix role.
Almonte in the OF could provide the spark to run us to the ASB and the real players. (no offense)

  43. DONNYBROOK June 21st, 2013 at 6:55 pm

I watched the game Ross supposedly got dinged, and he Never came outta the game. I hope the guy ain’t hurt, but the R\Sox are great for moves like this when a roster move is warranted. ALL trainers should be held accountable for allowing a player to remain in the game, and then after the fact, discovering that the player has suffered a concussion of any degree.

Against All Odds June 21st, 2013 at 6:53 pm

I never had an issue with extensions before with the Yanks because I knew they would pay up when the time came to keep them. Now the Yanks are using it to rid people. It is not the Yankee way IMO.

  45. mick June 21st, 2013 at 6:55 pm

I think Nova gets called up if nothing more than to tweak Hughes.
A good game will go a long way toward motivating the not so young anymore Master.

It sure would go a long way though. Lee is a LHP too so the Yanks would see him. Buck & Duquette aren’t afraid of being wrong or judged. they go thru the players & find which ones stick. They give guys opportunities to suceed. Joe & Cash don’t want to fail. Buck & Duquette want to suceed. It is a nuiance, but it is a huge difference. Torre was a want to suceed guy. He came to the Yanks w/o a worry. He moved parts until it worked. He was loyal to the key cogs & built around them. ARod was his undoing along with Cash. But the concept works. Positives beget positives & vice versa.

  60. comnsnse June 21st, 2013 at 7:07 pm

SWB is as screwed up as the Yanks but to be considered, is the prospect rush on?

I believe Sarah Kustok is being interviewed for the GM position and may have been Hank’s prom date. Ask Heyman!

And as for “manly” women, Merideth looks like a WWW competitor. ;)

  61. comnsnse June 21st, 2013 at 7:14 pm

Ray, Torre had the core and the advice of Stick while Cashman did the coffee run!

Joe G. is an enormously competitive guy and a very tough competitor from Chicago. Outstanding HS football player.

He does not play to fail because of any lack of courage in trying to win, and to compare a mgr. with a GM with respect to any success or failure is rather a stretch.

    Cashman delenda est!

  62. comnsnse June 21st, 2013 at 7:18 pm

Does this lineup bespeak the desperate level the team has descended to?

We have reached the sub basement.

Who must fall on their sword?

Is Kay delusional, Gardner has never learned to bunt and he’s 30!

If he could really bunt he’d be a .300 hitter with an OPS of 400!
