Well, at least they have a bench today of Hafner, Stewart and Gardner.

  2. 86w183 June 27th, 2013 at 10:40 am

The game is being played at Legend’s Field in Tampa.

The rest of the Yankees will be in Lakeland

  3. DONNYBROOK June 27th, 2013 at 10:41 am

If your gonna throw a garbage lineup out there like the one above, you may as well just sit Cano.

  4. Bo knows June 27th, 2013 at 10:42 am

Just when it’s darkest down on the farm. Just a faint glimmer, but three players showed up, doing something.

    Carmen Angelini SS
    Fernando Martinez RF
    Andrew Clark 1B

Angelini was a million dollar Yankee draft pick, out of baseball for a couple of years
Martinez was a highly touted Met prospect
Clark has hit well in low A, high A, then retired last year and was playing Indie League this year.

This is the scouting report on Clark, back when

Clark has a straight up stance at the plate with a slightly open approach, somewhat low hands and very good bat speed. Clark has tremendous raw power with lift in his swing and bounced one over the 400′ sign at Turner Field against 90+ mph pitching to make that point. He’s aggressively looking to pull the ball and will hit around it on occasion, but shows the ability to dial up his swing when the pitching gets tough. He’s going to hit a lot of home runs before he’s done playing. It may be underrated but Clark is also one of the finest defensive first baseman we’ve seen in a long time. He’s extremely smooth and balanced in his actions and is going to catch everything near him.

  5. mick June 27th, 2013 at 10:43 am

I think there will be some changes when they go Balt.

  6. blake June 27th, 2013 at 10:47 am

Not playing Gardner when Hughes pitches is stupid

  7. DONNYBROOK June 27th, 2013 at 10:47 am

As a favor to the fans in attendance, Girardi should top the order with Ichiro and Cano. That way fans can watch these 2 guys bat, then go to the head, hit the snack stand, and be back in their seats in time to see them bat again. There ain’t nothin’ going to happen in between.

  8. tomingeorgia June 27th, 2013 at 10:51 am

Is there something wrong with Gardner, or is he just sitting?

  9. luis June 27th, 2013 at 10:52 am

    Good morning from NY..

On Arod-Cashman feud…. I think both sides are playing the media… Cashman should have been fired for such a comment, which means that the owners authorized such kind of talk… Arod wants to play and the Yankees want to collect the insurance money… Arod would be a boost to this offense even at 70-80 % of his capability.

On Hughes…. I am on his train too… I just don’t expect him to be the ace that he was supposed to become, just a good mid-back of the rotation SP.

  10. luis June 27th, 2013 at 10:55 am

    two things about this lineup:

    1) Gardner needs to be there

    2) Wells shouldn’t be there,

  11. Tar June 27th, 2013 at 10:59 am

Joe G is trying the reverse jinx with this line-up :D

At this point you might as well just laugh and have fun with our team.

Low expectations means in the end, I might just be surprised.

  12. Tar June 27th, 2013 at 10:59 am

    Hey Luis

Good to see you, hope everything is ok. :D

  13. Captain Clutch June 27th, 2013 at 11:00 am

So both NY newspapers are running with stories that Arod is going to retire now so he gets to keep all of his money and not get suspended. Interesting if they are right…

  14. Captain Clutch June 27th, 2013 at 11:03 am

Wells is only playing because they are facing a lefty. It’s obvious that as long as Zoilo continues to play good Wells will only play against lefties. That is fine since he has hit them ok recently and he has to get into the lineup once in a blue moon.

I think Gardner is out of the lineup because Girardi wants to give his legs a break. But they were just off on Monday so who knows. Hopefully it’s nothing more.

    Hey Luis

Good to see you, hope everything is ok.

Hey Tar…. Likewise my friend… And yes, things are much better, thanks for asking ;)

About expectations…. Mine have been very low since the winter, so everything is gravy for me

  16. Tar June 27th, 2013 at 11:06 am

“So both NY newspapers are running with stories that Arod is going to retire now so he gets to keep all of his money and not get suspended.”

First: Obviously coming from the organization in retaliation for what Alex said after being told to STFU.

Second: I hope Cashman is happy with himself for bringing on such ridicule to the organization.

    Cashman needs to go.

  17. fantasygame101 June 27th, 2013 at 11:07 am

did nix do the 3 round sac fly batting practice like I told him to do?

  18. Captain Clutch June 27th, 2013 at 11:08 am

    @McCulloughSL

Brett Gardner has a head cold, Girardi said. Also could use a day off, anyway.

  19. luis June 27th, 2013 at 11:09 am

    CC,

With Hughes on the mound, they need Gardner out there… And if you want to play Wells because we are facing a lefty, then sit Ichiro…. That 4th OFer ( Gardner ) has been quite a bright spot this season

  20. Shame Spencer June 27th, 2013 at 11:09 am

Lol, that would be interesting if that deal really is in place, I’d love it as a Yankee fan if it meant they’d spend on more/better players…

BUT – what would that say about MLB and their crusade against PEDs, exactly?

  21. Captain Clutch June 27th, 2013 at 11:11 am

Alex Rodriguez informed Yankees officials in Tampa yesterday he isn’t ready to begin a minor league rehab assignment because his surgically repaired hip isn’t up to the task, a source told The Post last night.

  22. yankeefeminista June 27th, 2013 at 11:13 am

As per what I said in the last thread, Gardy must have tweaked something. I can’t believe Mr. Plan Ahead would not have scheduled Gardy to play CF with Hughes, a flyball pitcher, pitching.

Hi Luis, welcome to Nueva York; glad to hear you are safe and sound.

As for ARod vs. Cash, I just want my Yankees back; I don’t want to have to hear my GM dissing my player or vice versa in the media. Cease and desist for the good of the ball club.

  23. yankeefeminista June 27th, 2013 at 11:14 am

Thanks, Clutch. Figured Gardy was tweaked in some way, shape or form.

  24. luis June 27th, 2013 at 11:14 am

I just watched Ichiro’s homer from last night ( it’s good to be able to watch YES )… So I take back the “sit him” comment… I take it that he has been hot as of late.

    CC,

    That explains it.

    Tar,

Yes… He needs to go… I read his comments yesterday… He has become so arrogant and a control freak… But I think he had the blessing from Hal, so he will be around for a while :(

  25. astrocityfan June 27th, 2013 at 11:15 am

Ichiro is hitting .354 against lefties in a weirs reverse split thing. so while i would like gardner and not well, you cant sit ichiro

  26. Niblick June 27th, 2013 at 11:15 am

    Worst lineup yet.

  27. Captain Clutch June 27th, 2013 at 11:15 am

Maybe the Yanks were informed days ago that he is planning on pulling this retirement thing so right now they are talking to MLB and figuring out how to get money back from the contract. It would make sense if that’s why they don’t want him to rehab until they talk to their contract/money people.

  28. Ys Guy June 27th, 2013 at 11:16 am

    from the post story:
“The source also said he has heard speculation Rodriguez could use the hip problem to retire. That would allow him to collect the $114 million owed to him. ”

that must have been some conversation hal and alex had yesterday. i wish i was a fly on the wall for that one…

  29. astrocityfan June 27th, 2013 at 11:17 am

i just want the arod thing over. if he can play, let him him play. The team needs him. If he isnt coming back then lets get some money back and find a 3b. I am just burned out on the whole thing

  30. Ys Guy June 27th, 2013 at 11:18 am

lookin like there was more than just an “al double switch” going on last night when they sat ichiro.

Hi YF… Just got back from Hong Kong, so I have a lot of jet lag… I misplaced your e-mail, could you resend it?

And QFT on arod vs Cash

  32. Captain Clutch June 27th, 2013 at 11:19 am

It seems like Cashman has gotten too comfortable with his job. Now he says whatever he wants and you never know what is going to come out of his mouth. I definitely think the organization can use a fresh face as the gm. It will never happen but I doubt Cashman even has the skills to rebuild this organization like they needs to do now.

  37. Frankg June 27th, 2013 at 11:27 am

I think that the Yankees should consider adopting an early retirement program so that Pettitte and Wells can leave ASAP.

  38. Ys Guy June 27th, 2013 at 11:31 am

yeah, based on his QS last night andy obviously has to retire immediately…

  39. ron June 27th, 2013 at 11:31 am

Maybe cashman turns into a genious by getting rid of arods contract, making cc,and tex the only big ones left.
That would clear a phenominal amount of payroll, and cc,and tex would have only 3 seasons left,i believe.

  40. Wave Your Hat June 27th, 2013 at 11:36 am

I’m not buying these ARod stories. I think he is intent on coming back and will be back.

  41. Warning Track Power June 27th, 2013 at 11:37 am

Gardner could use a day off. Might as well be today vs a LH.
The Yankees are in the middle of a very long stretch, so it’s the right move.
The offense today has to come from somewhere. I like that Cano is getting another DH day, but let’s hope someone else in that line-up can come up with some big hits today.

  42. Ys Guy June 27th, 2013 at 11:37 am

if not for a blown call at 1b, andy would have gone 6 IP 2 ER last night. dfa the bum.

  43. Ys Guy June 27th, 2013 at 11:39 am

sorry, i got that wrong, the blown call was the unearned run, so it was 6IP/3 ER either way.

  44. fantasygame101 June 27th, 2013 at 11:40 am

if arod retires, his salary still counts toward the computation of luxury tax?

  45. ron June 27th, 2013 at 11:43 am

It doesn’t add up with arod.
He was cleared to go,all excited, then says that his hip won’t allow him to go,after these retirement stories.
    Something going on here.

  46. Ys Guy June 27th, 2013 at 11:46 am

the next thing i want to hear about aaron hernandez is the jury verdict. this “what are they feeding him for dinner tonight” fascination is appalling.

  47. ron June 27th, 2013 at 11:50 am

I think arod is going to decide that he does not wan’t to be a part of this, and with the cashman comments,no longer feels welcome, and bails out.
With his personality, and the ny limelight,i think he bails.

All of a sudden, his hip won’t allow him to play?
    Not buying it.
    The will is gone.

  48. Shame Spencer June 27th, 2013 at 11:53 am

    ?@michaelianblack

Spent so much money at Yankee Stadium last night, I should be allowed to make Derek Jeter mow my lawn.

If he retires no…..if he is put on the perma DL as a “medical retirement” then yes
