Apparently the pitching change is all about miscommunication. CC Sabathia was supposed to start all along but the information was passed along incorrectly.

Brett Gardner CF
Jayson Nix SS
Robinson Cano 2B
Vernon Wells DH
Ichiro Suzuki RF
Zoilo Almonte LF
Chris Stewart C
David Adams 1B
Alberto Gonzalez 3B

Has Ichiro been notified that he is now a power hitter?

  2. Niblick June 28th, 2013 at 3:46 pm

    Worst lineup yet?

  3. mick June 28th, 2013 at 3:47 pm

Adams at 1st is a desperate cry for help.

  4. Chip June 28th, 2013 at 3:49 pm

Again, if this was a spring training road game the Yankees would be fined for not bringing enough real players.

  5. Patrick June 28th, 2013 at 3:54 pm

This lineup is just brutal.. I can feel the season slipping away

  6. astrocityfan June 28th, 2013 at 3:57 pm

Looking at this lineup almost makes chip’s fake trade seem reasonable :)

    @eboland11

Source : A-Rod was not responsible for the mixup that initially had Phelps listed as the starter tonight

Not here, at least that I know of. And if they are they shouldn’t be.

It was against the rules of posting here and I think for good reason.

Like posting first to start a new blog, like talking politics or religion… these are not my rules , but they are our rules.

    —————

From a realistic standpoint – the Yankees are desperate for RH bats and Ramirez and Rios would provide those. You get a good player in Rios by also taking back Thornton’s deal.

Send them a good young pitcher in Phelps and a prospect in Heathcott – as well as another minor leaguer and make them take Boone Logan to offset a little money since Logan’s not needed with Thornton around.

It wouldn’t be an awful deal.

There you go, I violated the fake trade and personal attack clauses of Pete Abe’s rules.

  29. joeman June 28th, 2013 at 4:27 pm

this season is just about over with…nothing on this team or on it’s way will help so what you see is what you get..jeter and Arod will be lucky to see the field much this year,Granderson will help a little but no enough…

  30. Wave Your Hat June 28th, 2013 at 4:35 pm

    “More game details.”

Sorry, I got distracted. Nothing much happens until the 15th. Sparkling catches by Gardner and a well turned double play featuring Gonzalez and Cano have kept the Yanks in it.

In the top of the 15th, Ryan Flaherty trips while fielding an Ichiro infield grounder, the ball kicks over to the right field line allowing Ichiro to make second. Almonte moves him over to third with a productive out. Stewie and Adams strike out, and Gonzalez, 0 for 5 to this point, comes to the plate. Tommie Hunter, on a 1-2 pitch, bounces the ball past the catcher allowing Ichiro to score.

Mo closes it out of course. Yanks win, 1-0.

  31. Wave Your Hat June 28th, 2013 at 4:37 pm

Excuse me, it was Romine, not Stewie, striking out in the 15th as Overbay had pinch hit for Stewie in the 9th to no avail.

  32. Tar June 28th, 2013 at 4:39 pm

“There you go, I violated the fake trade and personal attack clauses of Pete Abe’s rules.”

You could have just said ok.

Do I think you’re fake trade was really terrible…. no. But after 50 more people do it it’s going to get old really quick for you as well everybody else.

And maybe Chad and Lohud left those rules there on purpose.

I prefer to believe what you post first, not to have to verify everything that you and everybody else posts. The reason for that rule is because people abused it, and they will again if it’s allowed.

I’m done talking about it. Have a good day.

  33. Hankflorida June 28th, 2013 at 4:40 pm

    C
If the Yankees can be eleven games over five hundred before the break by taking advantage of the Twins and Royals and Granderson will not be back, then you still have Boesch, Nunez and Musty to play with while trying to make a trade. If they fall apart during this seventeen game stretch and sink to five hundred, the season is not salvageable and it is wait to next year.

  34. mick June 28th, 2013 at 4:41 pm

    Have a good day.

  42. Hassey June 28th, 2013 at 4:53 pm

The more outs you give the Yankees, the lower their averages will go

The only thing holding us at .238 is that we are only allowed to make 27 outs in a nine inning game

  45. mick June 28th, 2013 at 4:55 pm

So if Hafner and Overbay were in the lineup and we had a 4 man bench, this lineup would look better?

  46. RayVT June 28th, 2013 at 4:56 pm

You gave Mo a Save but Yanks aren’t the Home team.

  47. Wave Your Hat June 28th, 2013 at 4:56 pm

“What do you think about the Cards joining the ACC?”

I’m going to miss the old Big East, especially the Cards playing up East 2 or 3 times a year, plus the Big East Tournament.

But given that the old Big East was doomed, getting into the ACC was huge for the Cards. I’m really psyched about it. The ACC is going to be a fantastic basketball conference.

Playing Dook and the Heels every year is going to take some getting used to, though.

  48. Tar June 28th, 2013 at 4:57 pm

“So if Hafner and Overbay were in the lineup and we had a 4 man bench, this lineup would look better?”

No. Besides the first RH relief pitcher to get into the game and those two will be in the line-up.

  49. mick June 28th, 2013 at 4:58 pm

    Doink the Clown is dead.

  50. mick June 28th, 2013 at 4:59 pm

  51. Wave Your Hat June 28th, 2013 at 4:59 pm

“You gave Mo a Save but Yanks aren’t the Home team.”

Help me out here, RayVT. My scoresheet shows Mo pitching the bottom of the 15th. Sabathia went 10 allowing Girardi not to use Mo earlier on the road.

  52. Tar June 28th, 2013 at 5:01 pm

“Playing Dook and the Heels every year is going to take some getting used to, though.”

    The more the merrier.

Adding Pitino ( and Boeheim) to the mix is something I am looking foward to, even though it’s probably going to hurt some.

There was talk about having the ACC conference Tourney at MSG.

  53. Shame Spencer June 28th, 2013 at 5:02 pm

Tar – Not to bemoan the point but we do post proposed trades here all the time.

Personally, I violate Pete’s profanity rules daily… but then again, so did Pete. :P

  54. Rich in NJ June 28th, 2013 at 5:05 pm

Pete was like a simmering volcano…

  55. Wave Your Hat June 28th, 2013 at 5:06 pm

“There was talk about having the ACC conference Tourney at MSG.”

I don’t think that will happen now that the new Big East has cut a long term deal with the Garden to play their tournament there.

I’m going to have to get used to having the Cards go down to North Carolina most of the time for the tournament. I’ll grind my teeth about the unfairness of playing the tournament on the road (I know, we’re the newcomers and when in Rome, etc.), but it can’t be worse than the Garden which was a home court for Syracuse and, to a lesser extent, Pittsburgh.

  56. Jerkface June 28th, 2013 at 5:08 pm

There is clearly a difference from proposing a trade and posting a trade as if it has occurred IRL.

  57. Tar June 28th, 2013 at 5:09 pm

“Tar – Not to bemoan the point but we do post proposed trades here all the time.”

    Shame

It’s not “proposing trades” its posting a fake trade as if it was real. Actually not only trades, but any “fake” news.

I agree It sometimes can be funny, but trust me it will get abused and than it will not be funny at all. That’s why it became a rule in the first place.

Blake very cleverly sidestepped that rule this morning.

  58. RayVT June 28th, 2013 at 5:10 pm

I thought the Yanks were playing in Baltimore???

Maybe Yanks win with Mo in CF & CC as batting as DH while he pitches.

  59. pkyankfan69 June 28th, 2013 at 5:10 pm

    “First!”

  60. Wave Your Hat June 28th, 2013 at 5:12 pm

I did get a little surge of adrenaline when Chip posted that deal. Sort of, “what, did the Yanks really deal Phelps? I better check.” Can’t say I’d want everyone doing it but occasionally it adds a certain spice.

  61. Tar June 28th, 2013 at 5:12 pm

  62. mick June 28th, 2013 at 5:12 pm

  63. RayVT June 28th, 2013 at 5:13 pm

    WYH & Tar,

The new ACC has a distinct Big East feel.
UM, BC, Pitt, VT, Syr, & UL. (Some old Metro as well.)

  64. RayVT June 28th, 2013 at 5:14 pm

    mick

  65. Wave Your Hat June 28th, 2013 at 5:14 pm

“Maybe Yanks win with Mo in CF & CC as batting as DH while he pitches.”

There’s an idea. Can’t you DH for anybody? Let Sabathia hit, and DH for somebody else.

    Couldn’t hurt, and could help.

  66. Ys Guy June 28th, 2013 at 5:15 pm

No doubt , it’s going to be interesting.

What happened to the Hokies in FB last year? I’m sure it will be short lived. They are usually such a powerhouse.

I really like what Fedora is doing with the Heels. There is a lot of excitement about them in FB. But it remains to be seen.

  74. Captain Clutch June 28th, 2013 at 5:19 pm

Figures that Buck has a bullpen lefty making his first start of the season against the Yanks. If Girardi did that he would give up 7 runs in 2 innings. But knowing the Orioles smoke and mirrors luck he will pitch an 8 inning shut out.

  75. mick June 28th, 2013 at 5:19 pm

  76. Wave Your Hat June 28th, 2013 at 5:19 pm

I wish Louisville was in the ACC this year for football. We’re going to have a good team, but given the schedule we have to play there’s going to be no way to tell.

  77. Shame Spencer June 28th, 2013 at 5:20 pm

I’m just saying if I was going to post a fake trade with the intention of actually confusing people I’d put @Buster_ESPN before it or something.

That being said.. confusion seems to be getting mass produced on the blog lately, so perhaps it is better to curtail it where we can. I’m pretty sure I read something about Chad coming on here and having to tell people Feinsand was, in fact, not a commenter on LoHud..? Did I read that right? I’ll admit I only skimmed the thread.

  78. RayVT June 28th, 2013 at 5:21 pm

    Tar June 28th, 2013 at 5:17 pm

VT had no OL & RBs! Their offense was run the QB.

I expect VT to do much better this year. But starting the season with Alabama & it might be a long year.

VT Defense should be very very good though. (Especially when Exum (star CB) comes back from injury.)

  79. Hassey June 28th, 2013 at 5:21 pm

  83. Ys Guy June 28th, 2013 at 5:23 pm

i dont think it really makes much difference in the end, just that some of the orioles came to the park ready to have a day off who are playing and visa versa. a little psych job maybe.
they could have gone full bait and switch but didnt want to mess with cc’s preparation.

i think they were just sending buck a little message about the b.s. he pulled last season.

    .223/.264/.369
    .234/.241/.346

  87. Ys Guy June 28th, 2013 at 5:29 pm

I bet, a tale of two halfs.

They were not yet use to Fedora’s system ( lot of mistakes early). It took about about midway through the year (and that game) for it to really kick in.
