I wouldn’t be surprised if they bring Jeter back for the Twins series right before the break. It’s not going to be a long rehab considering he is starting at AAA and already playing 5 innings. On the other hand Arod will probably need all 20 days in the minors.

  2. longtimefan July 5th, 2013 at 3:37 pm

Sound thinking sit Almonte he might be getting in a grove, and play the off again, on very briefly again Wells, the 24 yr old probably needs a rest!

  3. fantasygame101 July 5th, 2013 at 3:38 pm

Almonte needs a rest? he already had a day rest since yesterday was a day game.

  4. Dumper Pumper Jr July 5th, 2013 at 3:39 pm

Wow are those complete sentences longtimefan ?

  5. SoS July 5th, 2013 at 3:48 pm

Joe “the refridgirardiator” is at it again. Trying to ice themask of zolio. Seems like wells I back in the circle of trust.

  6. Hans Davenport July 5th, 2013 at 3:49 pm

It is strange Wells vs. a RH pitcher? Gonzalez correct. Sitting Almonte who swings better from the right side?

  7. mick July 5th, 2013 at 3:50 pm

    austinmac July 5th, 2013 at 3:28 pm

I think a reporter would be an idiot not to read this and other Yankee blogs. Why not write about what fans are interested in? Of course, they would never admit it.
    mick July 5th, 2013 at 3:49 pm

Of course, they would never admit it.
    ===============
Why not though? It’s just a matter of getting ideas. I would do it as Feinsand and others do.

  8. Niblick July 5th, 2013 at 3:51 pm

That’s it for Almonte. He’ll probably be back at Scranton so Joe can have a 14th pitcher.

  9. mick July 5th, 2013 at 3:52 pm

Sitting Almonte who swings better from the right side?
    =====================
    you meant LH right?

Hans-You see where Klapisch got an idea for a Ruth article from us last night?

  10. JimK July 5th, 2013 at 3:53 pm

I wanted to see Almonte again, but after yesterday’s batting performance by Wells and Hafner where would he play?

  11. J. Alfred Prufrock July 5th, 2013 at 3:54 pm

    Niblick July 5th, 2013 at 3:51 pm

That’s it for Almonte. He’ll probably be back at Scranton so Joe can have a 14th pitcher.
    ///

I mentioned this a while back, that Granderson would boot Almonte to the curb, and with Wells “back”, he’s going to ultimately be relegated to No. 5 OF.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that when Zoilo came up, the team started to hit more and win some games.

    When will they ever learn.

  12. JimK July 5th, 2013 at 3:56 pm

I thought tonight was a left handed pitcher….

  13. Niblick July 5th, 2013 at 3:57 pm

JAP – when Cashman and the Binder are gone.

  14. J. Alfred Prufrock July 5th, 2013 at 3:57 pm

Platooning Almonte is flat out stupid.

He’s not some old dude or some AAAA replacement type, but a young kid whose in-progress bat needs ABs from both sides of the plate.

  15. SoS July 5th, 2013 at 3:57 pm

Make that the 15th pitcher. You can add Nix to that mix. He’s what we call “a baseball player”. A rare breed. Nuff said.

  16. mick July 5th, 2013 at 3:57 pm

Most likely Almonte gets the next 2 games and more in this 10 game home stretch. Kid needs a rest , I guess..

  17. mick July 5th, 2013 at 3:58 pm

This isn’t a platoon move. A righty is pitching.

  18. jacksquat July 5th, 2013 at 3:59 pm

I guess it only takes one good game by Wells to sit the rookie hitting .300.

  19. mick July 5th, 2013 at 4:01 pm

Almonte will prolly p[lay the next 9 games till the ASB.

  20. mick July 5th, 2013 at 4:01 pm

    …and pinch hit tonight.

  21. yankeefeminista July 5th, 2013 at 4:02 pm

Alex’s game with the TYanks today has been rained out.

  22. J. Alfred Prufrock July 5th, 2013 at 4:03 pm

Niblick, when Zoo first came up he was working BBs and it became contagious. The lineup followed suit with more responsible ABs.

I remember what a lift Melky gave us in 2006 in his first full season. Almonte reminds me of Melky in the sense that he is a SH who does not wilt in the big spot and that he can go the other way from both sides and shorten up his swing to drive in runs.

  23. Niblick July 5th, 2013 at 4:05 pm

Do you think this is really Joe’s doing? Is he blind to what goes on on the field? Or is he taking orders from Cashman, who is embarrassed that a rookie making the minimum is playing rings around the old has-been on whom he wasted millions?

  24. J. Alfred Prufrock July 5th, 2013 at 4:06 pm

    yankeefeminista July 5th, 2013 at 4:02 pm

Alex’s game with the TYanks today has been rained out.
    ///

YF – Noticed Feliz is hitting .359 in his last 10 and slugging around .500 (that part is especially welcome) and his OPS over that little stretch is over .9.

Can you see if Tyanks can find out what the deal is with him playing 3rd, and how he looks over there? Thanks :D

  25. SoS July 5th, 2013 at 4:07 pm

.300 is over rated. Does he have all the real intangibles?

I thought Joe was into sss and the binder would dislike Wellsy’s 1/6 and .500 OPS vs. Gonzalez. Guess not.

  27. jacksquat July 5th, 2013 at 4:08 pm

I suspect they want Jeter to return first, to play the returning hero.

Don’t know why he would start out playing more innings than Alex, when Alex has been more advanced in rehab.

  28. J. Alfred Prufrock July 5th, 2013 at 4:08 pm

    Niblick July 5th, 2013 at 3:57 pm

JAP – when Cashman and the Binder are gone.
    ///

Dude, Cashman has the job for life.

  29. yankeefeminista July 5th, 2013 at 4:11 pm

Pruf, sure thing. Feliz is doing a good job vs. righties and has been killing the ball lately. I think TYanks thought his D at 3B improving was just a matter of time. Maybe we see him in Trenton at some point along with Sanchez. I saw that Roller was placed on DL with ankle sprain, could have been worse, so that is good news. Nunie is again leading off for Trenton and Flores is getting a DH day today.

  30. mick July 5th, 2013 at 4:12 pm

Almonte can pinch hit early for Cruz if needed, vs the righty.
    Gonzalez can then play SS.
    Zoilo can then replace Wells.

  31. yankeefeminista July 5th, 2013 at 4:13 pm

Probably think Alex because of the extent of the hip surgery vs. Derek’s ankle needs to come back more slowly.

  32. J. Alfred Prufrock July 5th, 2013 at 4:13 pm

    yankeefeminista July 5th, 2013 at 4:07 pm

    ////

They wax on about improvement and good swings and all that crap when a guy’s in his 30s.

But a kid with his future in front of him, they’re happy to pull the plug on and stall his development, even as we’re positively starved for youth with offensive upside. Almonte’s done everything that could be asked of him, including playing decent defense in LF. If he doesn’t have a head cold or some little nagging thing, to the devil with these people.

  33. SoS July 5th, 2013 at 4:15 pm

Maybe wells is trade bait and they are trying to display him before td. I get that feeling with joba. But its back firing. Less is more.

  34. astrocityfan July 5th, 2013 at 4:15 pm

I can’t get too worked up over Almonte sitting tonight. It’s a long stretch of games and joe has always been militant about giving people days off. I just hope they do better than usual against Gonzalez. He has had their numbering the past.

  35. comnsnse July 5th, 2013 at 4:17 pm

Unless the org. is priming the pump for a Wells trade, why would Almonte who is a better hitter from the left side be sitting?

Wells gets a hit or two and Girardi immediately thinks he has returned to his April stats.

Sometimes one gets’ the impression that Girardi is disinterested and going through the motions.

  36. J. Alfred Prufrock July 5th, 2013 at 4:19 pm

    yankeefeminista July 5th, 2013 at 4:11 pm

Yeah, the righty ABs are going to require more time. He actually looked good right-handed down in Lakewood a couple years ago. I think, with his apparent hit tool, he’ll be able to hit both ways. The power will/is come/coming – already can sting the ball, at least from what I saw in that four-game set (went to three).

Although I don’t really like that they moved him off 2B, where he has a natural aptitude, I am considering that they agree his power’s going to eventually be there and that he’ll make a good candidate for 3rd (certainly has the arm), as they’re invested in Gumbs and Refsnyder at 2B. What would be cool is if Feliz could fast-track here and play in the same infield as Robi, which would, of course, preclude AF playing second, so maybe that’s a good thing, on both counts ;)

  37. Niblick July 5th, 2013 at 4:20 pm

It’ll be interesting to see what crapola Joe come up with for benching Almonte.

I agree that his youth and energy are important boosters for the team. Too bad there’s no other prospects for the team for foreseeable future.

  38. SoS July 5th, 2013 at 4:20 pm

Is it time for a new driver? Give Pena the keys and lets see if he can turn the pinto into a ferrari. Didn’t do so bad in kc with much less talent.

  39. mick July 5th, 2013 at 4:23 pm

Unless the org. is priming the pump for a Wells trade, why would Almonte who is a better hitter from the left side be sitting?
    ====================
If another team is interested in Wells, would this game be the tipping point?
He could also catch an injury like Alzeimers tonight and blow the trade up…

  40. SoS July 5th, 2013 at 4:23 pm

The trade that needs to happen is girardi for pena.

  41. Niblick July 5th, 2013 at 4:23 pm

Joe’s been militant about giving guys day off? Not so. Not for all guys. Robbie’s played all but 12 games over the last 6 1/2 seasons.

Joe just uses it an excuse for his dumb moves.

  42. mick July 5th, 2013 at 4:25 pm

He always rests guys. He sat Gardner the other night.

  43. Niblick July 5th, 2013 at 4:28 pm

Maybe they’re going to trade Almonte for a 38-year old pitcher. That would be about their speed.

  44. mick July 5th, 2013 at 4:34 pm

    Carlos Ruiz is sitting tonight.
Why is that news on MLB networks streamer?
He would fit well here and is a FA next year.
What do they need within reason?

  45. Niblick July 5th, 2013 at 4:39 pm

A 34-year old catcher who will be a FA at the end of the year? Time to empty the farm system for him.

  46. J. Alfred Prufrock July 5th, 2013 at 4:50 pm

Almonte in a Cliff Lee package. Then Cashman can repeat: “I have a dream…”

If we’re going to get a catcher from Philadelphia, let it be Tommy Joseph!!!

  47. J. Alfred Prufrock July 5th, 2013 at 4:51 pm

I thought Robi could have used a break yesterday in that day game, or at least a DH day.

Robi never rests, though. He’s the only real hitter, so his “rest” days don’t exist.

  48. agreene July 5th, 2013 at 4:52 pm

I quite like the look of Almonte batting 2nd yesterday and would prefer to see something like this…
especially considering Almonte is a switch hitter, he breaks up the 5 lefties in a row, that is currently plaguing the top of the Yankee’s order

    1. Gardner CF
    2. Almonte LF
    3. Cano 2B
    4. Hafner DH
    5. Suzuki RF
    6. Overbay 1B
    7. Cruz SS
    8. Stewart C
    9. Adams 3B

  49. J. Alfred Prufrock July 5th, 2013 at 4:53 pm

Maybe Z-man is under the weather. That’s about the only explanation that makes any sense. Not like we’re playing Baltimore or anything.

  50. jackamir July 5th, 2013 at 4:55 pm

Stop being so negative!!! Girardi has been great considering the cards he has been dealt. Lets not question every move and every lineup. We are not in the dugout and don’t know player injuries or needed days off. Lets root for a sweep of the O’s and hope for a bad west coast trip for the Red Sox.

  51. J. Alfred Prufrock July 5th, 2013 at 4:58 pm

jackamir, how about you assess Girardi’s moves any way they strike you and leave the rest of us to do the same at our own discretion.

Furthermore, the way you trash Brett Gardner here day and night, when the guy’s hitting like .285, and clearly just hate his guts, you’re a fine one to be lecturing people about negativity.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
