NEWTOWN REMEMBERED: The Yankees are hosting “Newtown Day at Yankee Stadium” today. Approximately 4,000 Newtown residents will be guests of the Yankees and receive a food and beverage voucher.

ENTER SANDMAN: With his save in yesterday’s 5-4 win, Mariano Rivera has now converted 29 saves in 30 chances, which is tied with Baltimore’s Jim Johnson for the most in the majors this season.

UPDATE, 1:53 p.m.: A sac fly from Nunez in the second gives the Yankees a 1-0 lead. It was set up by Almonte’s 11-pitch at-bat in which he drew a walk. Hammel is already at 55 pitches.
