Yankees pregame: Waiting on the Captain

Posted by: Brian Heyman - Posted in Misc on Jul 09, 2013 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Derek Jeter isn’t scheduled to play today in Triple-A, but Joe Girardi still won’t rule him out for the weekend series against the Twins.

“Anything’s possible at this point,” Girardi said.
What day would be the latest he would rule him out?
“Sunday,” Girardi said with a smile.
It does seem like Jeter will be with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for at least two more rehab games after playing just three so far and not going the full way at short yet.
“He’s got to play in the field a little bit longer and back-to-back possibly,” Girardi said. “I know (he thinks) he’s ready to be here. He was ready last week. That’s just Derek.”
The Yankees could sure use Jeter’s bat in the lineup.
“I think the real thing is to make sure he’s ready because you don’t want him to end up pulling something,” Girardi said. “We want to make sure his legs are in shape.”

Travis Hafner is 13 for his last 55, but Girardi is sticking with him at DH.

“It’s hard to put your finger on exactly why he’s struggling, but he is and we need him to hit and that’s the bottom line,” Girardi said. “We need this guy to hit so we’re doing everything we can to get him going.”

Girardi and his “Mother Hen” style of managing can be frustrating at times but when it comes to Jeter i agree he should at least play a full game or 2 before he’s allowed back on the big club.

    Mother Hen vs. Mega Shark

  4. john smith July 9th, 2013 at 5:15 pm

If the tornado is big enough we could (through several strokes of very bad luck) have Sharks on a Plane

Waiting on LGY to confirm that he is the brother of Nick in SF.

Way ahead of you john smith – I’ve been trying to get Sharks on a Plane off the ground ever since Snakes on a Plane premiered. Seemed like a natural progression to me.

I will write to The Asylum to see what I can do about Mega Sharknado.

  7. Warning Track Power July 9th, 2013 at 5:19 pm

As much as I want Jeter on the team right now, I have to agree-Jeter
    is not yet ready.
Without a proper ST in 2013, back to back games, playing 5 innings is not
    nearly enough.
Jeter needs to play at least 2 consecutive games, 9 innings each before he can
be activated. And that’s being nice.
I really think he should play in rehab games the rest of this week
and during the all-star break. Then return to the team on Friday vs the Red Sox

  8. Hankflorida July 9th, 2013 at 5:21 pm

When Granderson played for Detroit, 4% of his at bats was home runs, and when he got to the stadium, he hit 6%. I think that Boesch at the stadium can get a least 5%. Almonte does not fit into these statistics and when Granderson gets back, he goes down. Playing Gardiner and Ishiro in the same outfield still does not help the power numbers. Alternating Welles and Boesch does, and that means Gardener and Ishiro share the load. Again, Hal’s cap means no big trades for power hitters so, “you dance with who you brung.”

  9. john smith July 9th, 2013 at 5:22 pm

LGY is Nick in SF’s clone. Not the same person but they ARE the same person! oo plot twist

In other news, Ricky, when are you checking in to the asylum? Soon hopefully

  10. fantasygame101 July 9th, 2013 at 5:23 pm

I think if he will be back for the red sox series for sure, he should be activated at least sunday so he can play at least one game before the red sox series.

Being trapped on a plane with dangerous animals is scary. Sharks are more scary/dangerous than snakes. Logic dictates this should be a movie.

I was going to check myself into the mental ward (they call it a behavioral center) if the Bruins had won the Stanley Cup a few weeks ago. I’d felt dead inside thinking how they were going to be rewarded with a Stanley Cup because of the 2 bombs that went off at the Boston Marathon.

I checked myself in voluntarily in 2007 after the Red Sox won the World Series, I needed to be away from TV, internet for a couple weeks. Got drugged, slept most of the days, felt good.

Dumper Pumper, but how sad that the “greeting” a new player gets in the Bronx should be boos? Always makes me think of the christians being thrown to the lions, with the Romans cheering wildly in the background, i.e. something is wrong with this picture.

The guy (Travis I.) is a flesh and blood human with feelings. Imagine being booed your first time AB in a Yanks uniform. It definitely doesn’t speak well of those fans IMO and can’t give a great impression of Yankee fans.

  53. mick July 9th, 2013 at 6:16 pm

So I’m at the game last night and am sitting behind a whiner who’s complaining about the lineup and it doesn’t matter how many runs KC scores b/c the Yanks can’t come back from 3 runs down, no less 5 or more and then Overbay hits a HR, the crowd gets lively and Yanks threaten. She shuts up and gets up and leaves , her husband who can’t seem to hear, gets on his leash and follows.

Moral of the story, this seems to be common practice amongst Yankee fans, except for the few thousand diehards who stayed for the entire game.

Also, I mentioned to some that baseball is a great game, imagine if they get 2 men on in the 9th , now a HR puts them back in the game. Well. they put 3 men on with Zoilo and Cano due up and now I’m on the edge of my seat. If Zoilo gets on, Cano is the winning run.

Too bad the whiner missed it, best moment of the game…

    Great game this baseball.

They focus more on PEDs than they do on their young exciting players. Francesa talked about this AS game being a changing of the guard since guys like Jeter, A-rod, and Pujols won’t be there. But yet the young stars of the game are after thoughts. Why not an AS game commercial with Wright, Cano, Trout, and Harper….highlighting the present and future of the game.

As for our non esteemed commish, always remember he was a used car salesman, I mean do you trust this man?
    —————————————————————————————–
I don’t trust Bud at all.
I can still picture the image of him at Miller Park, during the all-star game, wish his shoulders shrugged, discussing the situation about the lack of pitchers with Torre and the NL Manager
He appeared useless in that moment and nothing has changed with Bud.

“I am a big fan of yours also and indupeable, keep up the good behavior and funny posts and let’s think about Nicky some more!”

So I guess you both have an obsession with Nick.

    Comnsnse

Your posts can be thought provoking and humorous, but now that i’ve noticed this obsession of yours it doesn’t quite hold the same appeal. Your quietly approaching the creepy stage.

    @kylekaestner

@craigcalcaterra if you can get extra suspension for lying, then what happened with Melky’s website story?

    —–

Not a bad point. Melky didn’t get 100 games for failing a test AND trying to fake a website lol.

Used car salesman? He was the owner of a baseball team. Isn’t that bad enough?

What would I gain out of perpetuating a ruse? The only benefit I receive from posting this stuff is it helps me to release my anger in a non-destructive manner. Also, when I go back and read some of my postings, I see how crazy some of it sounds, and it helps me realize that it’s not the person I want to be.

“… I mentioned to some that baseball is a great game, imagine if they get 2 men on in the 9th , now a HR puts them back in the game. Well. they put 3 men on with Zoilo and Cano due up and now I’m on the edge of my seat. If Zoilo gets on, Cano is the winning run.

Too bad the whiner missed it, best moment of the game…

    Great game this baseball….:

    ====================================

Last line was simple & great !

Despite the sad lineup and it’s performance earlier in the game – then even giving up a few more runs to make it FIVE to one…..

We still had 3 huge chances to tie it !!!

    …and Woof, Woof, Woof

    NUNEZ
    GARDNER
    ALMONTE

…….but we had 3 clear chances (9 strikes-worth) to tie it up !!!

    Oh well….they made it win-able (tie-able anyway)….

    Great game this baseball !!!

They have made the ASG a joke.
Making it count is a slap at the integrity of those who manage and play it. As if they didn’t care ?
Like Francesa said, imagine if they made the Pro Bowl count?
Another good point was that inter-league play takes place every day now.
No one cares about “seeing” these guys play each other like they did before inter-league as they see it every day.
And no one cares about the “innocence” of today’s ballplayers…they are all looked at as cheats.

Unless the rules have changed, Albert Belle had to remain on multiple 60 day DLs for the club to get paid the insurance money so Alex would lose pay if he was suspended even if he retired.

  85. mick July 9th, 2013 at 7:01 pm

The other day Kay held the wire so that he wouldn’t point crazily with left thumb at O’Neill.
Yesterday he mentioned the “aforementioned ” NY Yankees again for the 1st time in about 2 years…lets ee what he does now.

  86. mick July 9th, 2013 at 7:01 pm

They did a closeup to avoid all that.
    About time…

  87. champ809 July 9th, 2013 at 7:09 pm

    Pat

If Arod retires because he is physically unable to perform he would get all of his $ even while suspended.

The yanks would recoup the bulk of it through insurance but ARod would get every dime of it.

If he doesn’t retire then he would lose close to $20mil if mlb were to successfully suspend him for 100 games.

  88. Jerkface July 9th, 2013 at 7:12 pm

    Champ,

If A-rod ‘retired medically’ then was suspended he would lose money, because ‘retiring medically’ just means he goes on the 60 day DL every year and has a doctor’s note that says the Yankees can’t terminate his contract because of it.

Thanks Rick Looking at 55? so I guess it does make a big difference…. Best Buy had a refurbished 55? Samsung led smart TV with 240hz for $1,000 last week… Should have jumped on it, no longer available…, the equivalent is like $1700 new, weak sauce

I’ve done my home homework on TV’s about a year ago.. but now that is dated. Last year, you really could not go wrong with the Panasonic Vierra TV’s and the price was as amazing as the screen.. IF you pay $5.00 at consumer reports you can get their TV buyers guide and it’s well worth it if you are planning on spending thousands, which you really don’t need to do these days for a quality TV. Most TV’s use the same board as most computers use the same boards.. it really depends what your use is.. certain TV”s are better for different reasons. Some focus on greener (less energy use), great movie experience, apps, video games etc..if you are a gamer than LED just won’t cut it compared to plasma, tho plasma is so energy consuming.. LCD and LED is just slightly different to the eye really, and most people can’t tell the difference between 780p and 1080p anyway. Not to mention a lot of cable companies only broadcast 780p/1080i still. FIOS is full 1080p and look remarkable with my Panasonic Vierra plasma and my sharp aquaos.. if i was buying a TV today, LG first Panasonic/Samsung next. P.S. the better the HZ the better/cleaner the picture, if you are gonna go all out, go all out right.

This isn’t such a bad start for CC (3 runs in nine complete innings) yet it felt like we were in bad shape after he gave up 2 runs…and doomed after he gave up the 3rd. Something is wrong when that is the mindset. #absentoffenseandnoreliefinsight
