TV/radio: YES/WCBS 880

Weather: Hot, humid, partly cloudy

Power outage: The Yankees have hit at least one homer in only 10 of their last 30 games. They have gone without a homer in 39 games, eight more games than all of last season.

Nova stat: Ivan Nova has the best career winning percentage of any current major league pitcher with at least 50 starts, .689 (31-14).

Update, 7:16: Two two-out singles off curveballs, but Nova escapes unscathed in the first.

Update, 7:29: The Yankees score first on a wild pitch. Ichiro was out trying to score on the play, too. Nice job of blocking the plate by George Kottaras after his wild flip home trying to get Brett Gardner.

Update, 7:35: 1-2-3 second for Nova with help from Cruz at third, excellent diving catch on a shot by Cain.

Update, 7:43: Nothing doing in the Yankees’ second, two strikeouts for Davis.

Update, 7:48: Easy inning for Nova, three up, three down again. Nothing leaves the infield.

Update, 7:53: Jeter grounded out to short in his first at-bat vs. Rochester. This is his fourth rehab game. He’s now 1 for 7 with four walks.

Update, 8:05: Nova has now retired 10 straight.

Update, 8:08: Jack Curry of YES among those reporting Jeter will return Friday if he doesn’t have a setback.

Update, 8:27: Nova gives up two singles and a walk with two outs in the fifth, but he gets Escobar on a shallow fly to left. 4-0 heading for the home fifth.

Update, 8:31: Jeter grounded out to short again in his second at-bat.

Update, 8:42: Nova with a perfect sixth. Jeter with a throwing error in Moosic.

Update, 8:45: Wonder what’s up with Hafner. Wells pinch hitting for him against Davis.

Update, 8:58: Overbay grand slam, his first since 2006, 8-0. J.C. Gutierrez will replace Davis here in the sixth, 8-0.

Update, 9:09: Jeter strikes out looking in his third at-bat.

Update, 9:14: Nova another great start, no runs, four hits allowed through seven. Going to be hard to not officially let him back into the rotation.

Update, 9:23: Brett Gardner out of the game for the eighth. He got hit in what looked like the right shin in the sixth. Ichiro moves to center. Alberto Gonzalez is in right.

Update, 9:34: 8-1 after eight.

Update, 9:42: Joba on for the ninth. Gardner has a bruised right leg, X-rays negative, day-to-day. Hafner is, too. He has a bruised left foot. X-rays were also negative.

Update, 9:53: Yankees win 8-1.

Hey they have to do what they have to do. Rather have them aggressive than hesitant.

    “Dumper Pumper Jr”

Off-topic, but in my mind, this needs to be said in a Boston accent: IE, “I just took a wicked Dumpah Pumpah”.

  16. MG July 10th, 2013 at 7:39 pm

I haven’t seen Nova pitch since his return from the DL and Scranton but he looks really different on the mound than he did over the past year.

His fastball has some sink to it and his breaking pitch, when spotted right, is basically unhittable.

He probably has the best raw stuff on the major league staff, the Yankees should just keep him in rotation for the rest of the season to see what they have. If it means trading Hughes, then trade him for the best deal possible sometime between now and the trade deadline.

    Yankees have there one run

  24. MG July 10th, 2013 at 7:44 pm

that rally in the 1st inning was the prototypical rally for the 1963 Dodgers.

Walk to Wills, steal of 2nd, Gilliam moves him over to 3rd, and he scores when Tommy Davis (who was a great hitter back in the day) knocks him in.

Wash, rinse and repeat a couple of other times in the game and either Koufax, Drysdale or Johnny Podres makes it hold up.

I can’t fault Ichiro for trying to score on the wild pitch, he wouldn’t have scored if he stayed on 3rd anyway given Hafner’s pop up to short left.

  25. Dumper Pumper Jr July 10th, 2013 at 7:46 pm

Well starting it feel like yesterday.

  31. Shame Spencer July 10th, 2013 at 7:48 pm

Nova with another nice inning. Keep at it, you’ll need to do this through another 6 to win, kid.

  40. MG July 10th, 2013 at 7:54 pm

maybe the Yankees need to install moving outfield fences, they can bring them in when they are at bat and move them back for the top of every inning…

  41. igotid88 July 10th, 2013 at 7:56 pm

Who is this guy and what has he done with Nova?

  42. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 10th, 2013 at 7:57 pm

“Trish, are you somehow blaming Yankee fans for Arod’s travails?

If so there’s a “rite” I’d like to confer on you!”

I’m certainly saying that they don’t help! I find booing in general repunant. What other message does it convey then “I love ya when you win, but when you don’t I can’t stomach you.” Booing as a motivational tool is pretty universally at the bottom of the list. Trashing your team by booing your players smacks of a condescension and arrogance that leaves me totally cold.

That’s being a fan? That comes under the paraphraed rubric of “With fans like you, who needs enemies?”

By the way, I’ve never booed in my life – my team or opponent.

Just the way I rock and roll.

    What is up!
Good news. This division is ours for the taking. Heres why.
Red sox will do their usual second half dive.
Lester already coming back down to earth. Laptops will do more pavano stints. Avg hitters will go back to norm.

Rays offense doesn’t scare me and will not carry themto the playoffs.

    Birds no pitching. Pitching wins.

Jays are the eagles of bsseball. Underachievers.

Yanks have sucked bad. Have a lineup of full of rejects and are still only 6 back. They have the pitching and are a couple trades and a couple reinforcements away from being the evil empire again.

Having said that. If cash doesn’t pull the trigger by deadline I’m taking the rest of the season off pretending it ended by a strike. Who’s with me!

Nova has turned the corner. Whatever they did in the minors to work on his confidence, it’s paying off in spades.

Funny the twists and turn of a baseball season. The best reason never to give up or be a quitter.

By the way, boycotting the team hurts the players. They’re worthy of fan support if you’re more than a fair-weather fan.

Sometimes I think being sent down to work on pitches without the media scrutiny is what some players need. Whatever it was, it worked.

have you looked at the tv screen , there’s 3 people at the Stadium.
    Jeter will double that…

  79. MG July 10th, 2013 at 8:10 pm

Someone (Rothschild, Girardi, whoever) just need to get in Nova’s head that he doesn’t have to throw 95+ on every hitter, just keep the fastball down in the zone and away from middle-in and keep throwing the breaking ball to the same spot he’s been hitting all night

If he does that he will be a really good starter for them for a long time…

  80. mick July 10th, 2013 at 8:12 pm

Nova is in his own head now, he just has to stay there…

  81. Locke July 10th, 2013 at 8:12 pm

  90. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 10th, 2013 at 8:18 pm

“Nova is in his own head now, he just has to stay there…”

After Nova’s last outing I heard Curry, I believe, saying that after Ivan gave up the homer, Stewart went right out to him and told him that there was nothing wrong with the pitch, that the heat and humidity had caused it to leave the Stadium (and that was factual, it was not just said to buoy his spirits.) Right after that, Nova settled back in and we saw the results. As long as Ivan continues to feel good about himself and continues to see results, it will go a long way toward keeping him on the right track.

  91. igotid88 July 10th, 2013 at 8:18 pm

“Hey Trisha, I tried calling Pat M today. He didnt seem to understand when I explained who I was.”

That’s what I totally expected from him because he is a genuinely compassionate guy. He wasn’t sure about going to the games, so he couldn’t really comment on that.

  96. mick July 10th, 2013 at 8:20 pm

nova has done this before…thinking nobody can get a hit off him…he could run the rest of the season.

  97. MG July 10th, 2013 at 8:21 pm

Nova can’t pitch up in the zone and be effective, he needs to keep his fastball down and get ahead so he can put them away with the breaking ball.

Last year he seemed to fall in love with the fastball up in the zone and got hammered way too frequently.

In lots of ways he’s like a young AJ Burnett but has better command and maybe a little less velocity, you watch him tonight and see star potential…

I disagree that the Yankees could have prepared for the injuries that happened. That’s pure suppositon and Monday morning QBing. Nobody could have known that Jeter would have reinjured himelf, and the same with Granderson. And the same with Tex. You don’t sign top noch players “just in case”.

Somebody said that ANY team missing 3/4 of its first-string infield and its CF would have a problem.

Nobody counted on the pitching coming up short. I guess the Yankees should have prepared for that too?

if the Yankees thought Nova’s problems were all mental they wouldn’t have had him make changes to his delivery during the spring.

as blake has mentioned on numerous occasions his arm action was pretty long and hitters seemed to pick up the fastball easily even though he was throwing hard.

I’m not a good enough scout to look at his delivery tonight and say those changes have stuck but it seems to me like the Royals are having a next to impossible time picking up the breaking pitch, that is probably because he’s hiding the ball better.

  122. mick July 10th, 2013 at 8:35 pm

  123. Nick in SF July 10th, 2013 at 8:35 pm

    Hi trisha.

Just so you are fully aware, the person you’re chatting with about Pat M. has, in recent days, reverted to his habit of posting the full names of commenters on this forum as well the names of members of their family. I think this behavior is similar to that which led you to contact the police.

According to the above post, he attempted to contact Pat M. on the telephone. Based on the described reaction, it was not an expected or welcomed call. So how did C R 9 get Pat M.’s phone number? Did you give it to him? Did he hack into someone’s email account to get it? Are you surprised that he was able to get Pat M.’s phone number (if this account of a phone call is true, that is)?

Now you can’t say that you don’t know. What you do going forward is now up to you.

  130. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 10th, 2013 at 8:47 pm

Nick, I wasn’t aware that he was posting names or family names. I do find that disheartening. I certainly didn’t give him Pat’s number. I don’t have it myself. If Pat’s number is listed, I suppose it would be easy enough for him to find it.

Pat did email me the stuff I posted.

I don’t intend to abandon Mike as a friend, if that’s what you mean. He needs people in his camp and I will be there for him. But I don’t hold back on letting him know when I feel he’s gone off the rails. I’m sure he can attest to that. I won’t stop doing that either. Though you may find this hard to believe, he is genuinely penitent when he has given in to those feelings.

  134. Captain Clutch July 10th, 2013 at 8:49 pm

Wells should be DHing over Hafner anyway. He has been hitting recently so I don’t know why Girardi is sitting him over Hafner who has been terrible. He has to play the hot hand.

you have to be impressed with Almonte’s consistently good AB’s, he had a couple of really good swings at fastballs, fouled them off, and worked the walk.

You would have to think that eventually he will start squaring up those foul balls more often and progress to the next level for the Yankees.

  139. Nick in SF July 10th, 2013 at 8:56 pm

I certainly don’t intend to be hed accountable for anybody’s behavior here but my own. I don’t remember conversing with Mike when he’s acted up. He can tell you that I purposely refrain from doing that if I notice it.

Now I’d appreciate being able to watch this fantastic game, a game in which the “defunct” offense appears to be the opposite.

I’d like this place to be a place of peace and harmony, by the way, one where people are free to disagree about Yankee matters without being nastily psychoanalyzed or ripped apart of called stupid, morons, etc.

People ganging up and taking little juvenile shots at someone they target is also, IMO, on the spectrum and that’s also done here. Befriending and conversing with those rogues is also offensive.

    But anyway, great game.

Seriously? That is one ugly unfounded comment by a mediocre announcer. Were he lazy he would have stayed at second. He doesn’t run very well. Kay is a creep.

  198. ahrmonn July 10th, 2013 at 9:23 pm

    Ahrmonn
That’s just the new season. It happens most seasons. Ortiz will pull up with a leg injury rounding third. Ells will make out with wall and be out for awhile. Lackey will come down to earth. This team is crystal waiting to be dropped.

    =====================================

In all fairness, that wall dresses provocatively.

Kay: “Cano is out because he’s lazy.”

    Wtf.

    ———————-

    He actually said that.

    ————-

Lol, not exactly but if you were listening he said essentially the same.. basically before Cano even got tagged he was like ‘and the reason he got tagged was because he thought it was a home run and wasn’t running hard or it would have been an easy triple.’ I’m not getting it word for word but that was closer to his actual statement.

Tar and nick – I want to ask both of you something now. I would ask you not to run away from it. Do you have any similar feelings about someone ruining the blog every time Prufrock feels the need to spew out totally off-the-wall psychoanlysis of me, and I assume mick also, but certainly about me. I know both of you have had ample opportunity to read the nonstop nastiness he enjoys putting out there. This personal vendetta has been going on since he decided to turn this forum upside down because he couldn’t abide Montero being traded. I have to laugh every time he says this forum needs a “mod”. I’d say so, and mainly because of him. Luckily the condescension and haughtiness isn’t reserved only for me (thanks for that Prufrock) but he certainly either finds or makes ample opportunity to throw out cruel barbs and misguided analysis.

I’d like to know your feelings on that. I don’t give a rat’s patootie who agrees with and/or disagrees with my opinions on Girardi, Cashman, defense at 1B, or anything else. But his stuff goes far beyond that. I know you know what I’m saying.

IMO he had two different arm slots… One for the FB and one for the OS stuff… It is very hard to be consistent like that… I think they are about the same right now, which also helps him deceive the batters

To all those saying that Jeter is the answer – I have personally witnessed 3 games in Scranton and he is NO where near ready to play. He has not hit the ball with any authority, as he has yet to hit anything other than routine ground balls to the left side. He has yet to hit a line drive in the 9 AB’s I’ve seen. In the field, he has looked average at best. Tonight he was charged with 1 throwing error and could have easily had 4 errors. !B Dan Johnson saved Jete with a scoop and a stretch on two bad throws. On another, Jeter went for a play at 3rd when the easy play was to 1st to get the 2nd out. On the next play he botched a forceout lob at 2nd B Adams and a run scored. The scorekeeper generously scored the play as a hit – but it was an error as the force was there and it would have been the 3rd out if he would have taken the easy out on the play before. I know things are dismal in the Bronx and we are all hoping for something to spark the Yanks – but you folks are looking on with rose colored glasses right now as far as Jete is concerned. Other than being a sight for sore eyes, he is no where near ready to play. (he has yet to play 9 innings)

Drip marketing is the act of sending out scheduled targeted emails that are all coordinated to a specific goal of client conversion. The sender uses email marketing software that allows them to setup multiple emails at one time and let them drip over time. This sometimes includes phone calls to check in on the clients along the way.

Now there will be an intermission. Seattle Slew will rest for at least two months before starting back to work on the grass course at Saratoga. He could run in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Oct. 2. Also, New York’s Govenor Hugh Carey is promoting the idea of a Labor Day meeting between Slew and Forego, but not a match race (Match races are exercises in idiocy,” Turner says). Slew could also go the more natural route and meet Forego in the Woodward Handicap and the Malboro Cup at Belmont in the fall.

I haven’t tried it on, but I do have a wedge with lycra straps, and the lycra serves to hold the shoe tightly in place, and unlike leather straps, they don’t hurt or leave marks on your foot.

Most (young) women like to look stylish and wear a shoe with a medium to high heel. The problem with high heels is that your bodyweight is not evenly distributed across the underside of the foot, but rather 80% of your weight pushes down on only one area of the foot, the forefoot area.

Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword….wait there’s even more Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees . Next you will need to mix the berries with the sugar, and you can add some apple slices if you like. Sometimes I slice and chop one or two apples and throw them in for variety. After the fruit and sugar is thoroughly mixed melt the butter and pour it into an eight inch square glass dish.
