Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter returned with a win. The Yankees 8-4 comeback against the Royals was Jeter’s first major league game in nearly nine months, and it gave the Yankees a split of this four-game series at Yankee Stadium. Despite never hitting the ball out of the infield, Jeter had a hit, a run and an RBI in four at-bats; his first since breaking his ankle in the American League Championship Series. Jeter scored the Yankees first run and drove in their last run. In between, the Yankees rallied from an early three-run deficit. Lyle Overbay had a two-out, two-run single to put the Yankees in front during a four-run fifth inning. Zoilo Almonte, Eduardo Nunez and Austin Romine had two hits and an RBI apiece. Andy Pettitte allowed three runs in the first and another run in the second, but settled in a little bit and lasted 5.2 innings without another run.
