After a few days of rain, Alex Rodriguez got back in a game tonight, but his seven innings at third base came just as Joel Sherman was reporting that Rodriguez blew off yesterday’s scheduled rehab game (which was ultimately rained out). So, yeah, that’s the next chapter in this saga. Here’s the AP reporting on tonight’s rehab appearance.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Alex Rodriguez went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts for the Tampa Yankees on Saturday, dropping to 2 for 18 (.111) with one RBI and five strikeouts in his injury rehabilitation assignment

One day after meeting with Major League Baseball officials probing the distribution of banned performance-enhancing drugs, the New York Yankees third baseman played seven innings in the field. He also was hit in the lower back by a pitch.

Rodriguez, coming back from January hip surgery, has played seven games for Tampa and Charleston, both Class A farm teams. His rehab assignment can extend through July 21.

MLB investigators are probing the closed anti-aging clinic Biogenesis. Rodriguez has said he used PEDs while with Texas from 2001-03 but has denied using them since. He was linked to Biogenesis in a report in January by Miami New Times.
