This should be fun…
Jim Leyland was asked why he picked Chris Tillman as an All-Star replacement ahead of Hiroki Kuroda.
“If you get 11 wins before the All-Star break, I think it’s hard to leave that guy off,” Leyland said.
Kuroda has a 2.65 ERA that is the second-best in the American League. His 1.05 WHIP is the fifth-best in the league. Kuroda has eight wins, and would have 10 if not for Mariano Rivera’s only blown saves of the season.
Tillman is fourth in the league with 11 wins (with only three losses), but he also has a 3.95 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.
