Last week, Major League Baseball released a mid-season list of the game’s highest-selling jerseys. As you might expect, the Yankees have two players in the Top 10, and their All-Star second baseman isn’t one of them.

“The only thing that motivates business to change is loss of income. Therefore as long as baseball remains a thriving enterprise status quo is the order of the day.”

The Boss was motivated with a desire to win, that was second to none. I often did not agree with his methods particularly early on, but no one can question his desire to win.

When I came to realize this fully, is when I stopped “hating” and became more of a fan.

The Yankee brand will soon be off the list. For economic health they need someone with star appeal. It is interesting Cano is not on the list.

  3. Against All Odds July 18th, 2013 at 10:26 pm

It is interesting Cano is not on the list.

    ==============

It is and I think that was one of the biggest reasons he left Boras.

  4. Against All Odds July 18th, 2013 at 10:27 pm

How the hell is David Wright number 4

  5. Tar July 18th, 2013 at 10:31 pm

For non- Yankees on that list, I think my first pick would be the Yu Darvish Jersey.

  6. blake July 18th, 2013 at 10:34 pm

Baby is here. 8 lbs 4 oz. he looks like Mike Trout…..sound asleep right now.

About the Heels/UVA…..we have respect for the school and see them as a similar institution academically etc….however really not a true rival.

    Also…..

@Ken_Rosenthal: One official in #Rangers-#Cubs talks believes Garza deal getting closer. Prospects from various levels in play. Olt “possibly” involved.

  7. Tar July 18th, 2013 at 10:35 pm

    Congrats Bllake!!!

That’s a big kid. Is he a southpaw yet?

  8. MTU July 18th, 2013 at 10:36 pm

    Have a good evening.

    Real baseball tomorrow.

See you again when the Sun breaks the horizon.

  9. Tar July 18th, 2013 at 10:37 pm

    Good night MTU.

  10. j9d July 18th, 2013 at 10:38 pm

    Blake

Big congrats on the yankees top 2031 draft pick!!

  11. MTU July 18th, 2013 at 10:38 pm

    Congratulations Pappa Blake.

    See ya’ tomorrow.

I’ve my own baby to tend to each night.

    I sympathize.

  12. Against All Odds July 18th, 2013 at 10:39 pm

    Congrats blake.

Future Yankee star in the making

  13. chicken_stanley July 18th, 2013 at 10:41 pm

    Congrats Blake!

  14. blake July 18th, 2013 at 10:41 pm

Thanks everyone…. tar, he held his soothie lefty so that’s a good sign. !

  15. blake July 18th, 2013 at 10:43 pm

Don’t look now but Slade Heathcott has been mashing for like a month now

  16. Tar July 18th, 2013 at 10:45 pm

    Good Job Blake.

BTW the planning so he would arrive on an off day…. was a stroke of genius. :D

    Happy for you.

    Good night all.

  17. Triple Short of a Cycle July 18th, 2013 at 10:45 pm

Matt Harvey (The Fetish as I like to call him) is ahead of Mike Trout???

  18. Nick in SF July 18th, 2013 at 10:48 pm

“Big congrats on the yankees top 2031 draft pick!!”

So GM-For-Life Brian Cashman and Manager Dante Girardi will be calling him up to the big club sometime in 2037.

Congrats, blake! You beat the royal baby. Silly royals.

  19. chicken_stanley July 18th, 2013 at 10:57 pm

Blake – from the movie Dead Poets Society – “seize the day”… my advice is – seize the sleep! Hope you, Blake jr, and mrs Blake are doing well

  20. j9d July 18th, 2013 at 11:03 pm

Nick I think it is a bit aggressive assuming Brian(JR?) and Dante would take a chance on Blake’s son after only six years. Have their fathers made parole?

  21. Locke July 18th, 2013 at 11:05 pm

Blake! Congratulations! Hopefully Cashman will be out of the front office by 2030 so the Yankees will see your sons baseball talent.

  22. Nick in SF July 18th, 2013 at 11:08 pm

Well, my thinking was that the Yankees will lose control of Blake’s son after six years of minor league service, so maybe they’ll trade him in a package for Matt Garza, Jr.

  23. austinmac July 18th, 2013 at 11:12 pm

Great news Blake. Kids are wonderful. Get some rest. We do not relieve you from your blog responsibilities.

  24. pat July 18th, 2013 at 11:13 pm

Barring a setback from left hip surgery this weekend, Alex Rodriguez will return to the Yankees on Monday, team president Randy Levine confirmed to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. His 20-day minor league rehab assignment ends that day.

“If he’s ready to come back, and he’s healthy, he’ll be back Monday night,” said Levine to Nightengale. “We need Alex Rodriguez. We need a right-handed bat. We need a third baseman. He’s the best third baseman we’ve got. And if he’s hot, he can carry us.”

  25. Pat M. July 18th, 2013 at 11:18 pm

Congrats to You and Momma Blake….

  26. Rich in NJ July 18th, 2013 at 11:30 pm

Yeah, Heathcott may have made himself a trade chip. We can only hope it’s for a target under 28.

That the Yankees’ top selling jerseys are only older guys sums up what a mess this team has been allowed to become.

    It’s inexcusable.

  27. j9d July 18th, 2013 at 11:36 pm

Rich I am guessing that’s just your way of saying congrats to Blake. You held true to your style of telling it like it is. Can’t argue with that.

  28. Rich in NJ July 18th, 2013 at 11:39 pm

    j9d

I did on a previous thread.

    Thanks…

  29. j9d July 18th, 2013 at 11:41 pm

Missed that, Rich. Still like your style of telling it like it is.

  30. sammiejohnson July 18th, 2013 at 11:46 pm

Look at #10 on that list: Puig. After six weeks in the bigs his jersey is outselling everyone of his team mates’ and everyone in the LA market except Trout. Think of what a phenom this guy would have been in NY. And he cost nothing to obtain except his salary. SMH.

And congrats to Blake and family. But remember, with the DH your going to need seven more for your own team!

  31. UnKnown July 18th, 2013 at 11:51 pm

Just saw that BOMB by AL tonight. Still trying to catch my breath… WOW just effortless!!

We’re lucky to be getting him back folks. Very lucky.

  32. Rich in NJ July 18th, 2013 at 11:53 pm

A-Rod is going to drive up YES’ ratings…again. Love him or hate him, people are interested.

  33. pkyankfan69 July 18th, 2013 at 11:55 pm

Is this Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez guy for real?

Probably no chance we sign him because of $189, right?

  34. G. Love July 19th, 2013 at 12:01 am

Congrats Blake – just catching up and saw your good news.

  35. sammiejohnson July 19th, 2013 at 12:05 am

Last I heard, the Dodgers – who else? – were “in” on Gonzalez. Just what they need. Another guy who costs only his salary.

  36. pkyankfan69 July 19th, 2013 at 12:09 am

Dodgers – Red Sox – Angels – Cubs were the teams I read who were most interested

  37. sammiejohnson July 19th, 2013 at 12:13 am

“Dodgers – Red Sox – Angels – Cubs were the teams I read who were most interested”

Yes, I read the same thing. But I am willing to bet that the Dodgers’ are probably more willing to outspend the other three.

  38. Nick in SF July 19th, 2013 at 12:15 am

Yanks are interested in his younger brother, Adonis Mustelier Gonzales, who isn’t quite as heralded but could come at a bargain price.

They’re negotiating with his agent to sign him directly to the 60 Day DL.

  39. Rich in NJ July 19th, 2013 at 12:24 am

Hal is doing what once seemed unthinkable: making Hank look like the smarter brother.

  40. Nick in SF July 19th, 2013 at 12:42 am

    You took it too far.

  41. mnmboys July 19th, 2013 at 12:44 am

Went to SWB tonight. Al just missed one to the right center field wall first AB. It was as high as it was far. HR came in 2nd AB also to right center. Great to see driving the ball oppo and will bode well for us in YS. David Adams leading off and hit the ball real well tonight. Dan Johnson another HR. I would use him at DH over Hafner at this point. Melky Mesa hitting the ball well and solid D in CF. Murph struggled a bit with the bat tonight but was great behind the dish catching Pineda. Blocked a ton of balls and threw an absolute seed to second on a Stolen base that I thought he had no shot at throwing runner out cause jump was huge off Pineda. Pineda looked great. 4 2/3 IP 8ks 3 hits. 82 pitches. Fastball sat 94. Nasty off speed getting swings and misses in the dirt. Betances 2IP throwing 95/96. Looked great but 2 BBs that I recall maybe 3 which is his bugaboo. There is some talent here to either help us in trades or help us with the big ball club in the near future. Going to be an interesting 2nd half. Can’t wait…..

  42. mnmboys July 19th, 2013 at 12:52 am

Musty back tonight too. Was 0 for 4 but looked good going 1st to 3rd on a base hit. Played LF. I don’t see him ready to help Yanks anytime soon. It will take him several weeks at least to get his game back

  43. Rich in NJ July 19th, 2013 at 12:53 am

Right center means Alex is getting locked in. Thanks for the observations.

As for Pineda, that’s encouraging. He’s obviously still building arm strength/stamina. Just take it real sloooooooow with him. It’s about next year and beyond.

  44. mnmboys July 19th, 2013 at 12:58 am

I disagree on Pineda. He threw 82 pitches. Couple more starts he will be around 100. I could see Yanks dealing a pitcher or two for a bat and Pineda slotting in possibly as a 4/5 starter

  45. Nick in SF July 19th, 2013 at 1:02 am

We need Pineda up on the big club winning games ASAP!

  46. Rich in NJ July 19th, 2013 at 1:03 am

But his FB velo is sitting at 92-92 according to Donnie Collins, who tweeted:

    Donnie Collins
    ?@RailRidersTT
What we’ve learned about Michael Pineda here: He’s a much better pitcher in the first three innings than he is by the fourth and fifth.
    _

To me, that screams: take it slow.

  47. Rich in NJ July 19th, 2013 at 1:03 am

    92-93…

  48. Nick in SF July 19th, 2013 at 1:07 am

He can win a ton of games at that velocity right now ‘cos [insert something about Greg Maddux here].

  49. mnmboys July 19th, 2013 at 1:13 am

Pineda just needs to be stretched out a couple more starts. He was a pitch away from getting through 5 innings tonight. Hughes, Phelps, and/or Warren maybe traded off for hitting. Pineda will slot in for anyone of them and maybe even Andy for as bad as he has been lately. Kuroda, CC, Nova, AP, Pineda could be our rotation post 7/31

  50. mnmboys July 19th, 2013 at 1:15 am

Don’t know what gun they use at PNC field but the board showed consistent 94s

  51. sammiejohnson July 19th, 2013 at 1:17 am

Why Pineda could win a TON games sitting 92-93. After all, Jamie Moyer won a TON of games with his FB sitting 82-83. Call him up NOW.

(Not Greg Maddux, but there you go.)

  52. Nick in SF July 19th, 2013 at 1:18 am

All kidding aside, Pineda’s outing sounds encouraging.

All kidding not aside, I refer you to my proposal for new Pineda rules:

    New LoHud rule proposal:

When Pineda does well, as he’s done so far tonight, we consider that to be evidence that he’s going to be a stud pitcher again a la 2011 1H.

When he gets shelled, as in his previous start, he’s just building up arm strength.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

  53. Nick in SF July 19th, 2013 at 1:22 am

Jamie Moyer is the intellectual version. Maddux is for the masses. Both are deemed appropriate by our panel of judges.

  54. sammiejohnson July 19th, 2013 at 1:29 am

“Both are deemed appropriate by our panel of judges”

I will assume then that I was not gonged.

  55. zoe3mia3 July 19th, 2013 at 3:34 am

Well once Jeter retires we won’t have a jersey on this list. Cano is kind of jerk. Gardner is ok but that’s all. And to think we could have Puig and Ryu in pinstripes big ownership thought they where just too expensive. Just imagine all the crap us fans would be buying if Puig was a Yankee. All the money that they let go. If you look at it not taking a risk in signing Puig, Cespedes, Darvish or even Soler who might be a superstar also its like the team lost money but our team owner doesn’t care because he has no passion for wining. Because he’s only passion is making money. So just sell the team. Your dad would be ashamed of you.

    Tar July 18th, 2013 at 10:31 pm
For non- Yankees on that list, I think my first pick would be the Yu Darvish Jersey.
    ————————-

I am too bitter that the NYY didn’t get Yu to agree (and I really don’t like Texas). I would pick Posey (SFG jerseys are really nice) or Cabrera.

The NYY perhaps suffer from the fact that people that want a 2 or 42 jersey already have one, given how long they have been around (and yet they are still selling jerseys). The NYY logo on merchandise still probably outsells the rest of the league by a large margin though, even if no single player sells a lot of individual jerseys (being in Europe I see 95% NYY merchandise).

  57. blake July 19th, 2013 at 7:02 am

@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Rangers close to acquiring Garza from #Cubs. Updated story with @jonmorosi: http://t.co/xls0puY3i8

  58. Tar July 19th, 2013 at 7:17 am

Why do I feel like the winner of the Garza sweepstakes is really going to be the loser?

Maybe this idea of being sellers is not so bad after all.

  59. GregD July 19th, 2013 at 7:22 am

Congratulations Blake!!! I hope all is well with your wife and newborn……many blessings!!!

I agree on Garza…..there is a reason he has been moved so many times……..

  62. PacoDooley July 19th, 2013 at 7:26 am

I would like to see the team sell and focus a bit on the future. as a former st Louis resident I follow the Cards a bit and am totally jealous of how they win, but also develop talent.

p.s., read the morning threads late yesterday and saw the word about a new addition to Blake’s clan, congrats.

  63. blake July 19th, 2013 at 7:32 am

    Thanks guys….everything is well.

Sounds like theo may rob Daniels…..if the rangers want to win the Division though they have to do something cause their whole rotation is on the DL just about

  64. Doreen July 19th, 2013 at 7:37 am

Just dropping in to congratulate Blake on the arrival of his son!

(I think individual player Yankee jerseys sales get diluted because Yankee fans buy jerseys for a larger field of players, including players across different eras. I suspect they still sell quite a few Mantle jerseys. Also Yankees fans will likely not purchase jerseys of other teams payers, but I think Jeter and Mariano almost transcend team. But this is Cano’s time to set himself up as the new leader, and to force himself into the role of spokesperson. As much as I like Vernon Wells’ personality, a guy who is clearly only going to be here for 2 years should not be the go to person post game, at least without also going to Cano)

  65. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 7:38 am

    Good Morning

    Real baseball again at last.

    :)

  66. PacoDooley July 19th, 2013 at 7:39 am

I can understand Texas paying for Garza. they have been so close to winning it all and they have huge amounts of talent, so they want to convert it into a championship. if I were them, I would try to convert some talent into Cliff Lee to really make that happen.

  67. PacoDooley July 19th, 2013 at 7:42 am

Doreen, good points on jerseys. I agree that current sales of individual player jerseys are not a great metric of popularity for a lot of reasons, though I do think it is a poor reflection on Cano.

  68. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 7:43 am

    Blake-

Olt was mentioned as part of the return for Garza.

Once Garza goes Hughes value increases.

Only other guy of note might be Gallardo.

Lot’s of teams need pitching to compete.

  69. Doreen July 19th, 2013 at 7:45 am

This is too serendipitous to not share. I just opened this morning’s crossword puzzle, right after finishing up my post here, and this:

The clue for 5 Across is “Yankees slugger Robinson”. (four letters)

    Perhaps Cano’s time has arrived!

  70. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 7:46 am

    Free Musty.

  71. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 7:47 am

    Delete Hafner.

  72. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 7:48 am

    Send Romine back to AAA.

  73. PacoDooley July 19th, 2013 at 7:50 am

Olt for Garza sounds about right to me. I agree that Hughes becomes more valuable as the options disappear. two more solid starts before the deadline would also help…

  74. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 7:51 am

Tell Alex if he hits above .275 w 15 dingers we will buy him a new golden Centaur for his mansion.

  75. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 7:54 am

    Mr. Dooley-

If our SP do not pitch to their max. and our O overachieve again in the next several series it may not matter much by then.

I hope the rest has rejuvenated everyone.

  76. blake July 19th, 2013 at 7:55 am

One interesting name you don’t see on that list is Robinson Cano…..he’s a really good player but I’m not sure he’s the box office draw that normally comes along with the sort of contract he’s going to be after…..you can rest assured Randy Levine is studying that aspect of it.

  77. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 7:57 am

The dumbest thing the Yankees could possibly do IMO is to try and muddle through w/o either upgrading their weaknesses, or alternatively selling some of their assets.

But you know what I wouldn’t be shocked by it either.

  78. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:01 am

Alex and Derek should spend a lot of time DH’ing when they return.

Their health and their bats are way more important than their D at this moment.

We have plenty of guys who can defend but can’t hit.

  79. austinmac July 19th, 2013 at 8:02 am

The Rays are my favorite to win the division. They are hot and have Price back and pitching well.

  80. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:03 am

And if Girardi gets this MASH unit of a ball club into the post season he stands alone for Manager of the Year.

Or perhaps Magician of the Year.

    :)

  81. austinmac July 19th, 2013 at 8:05 am

I did note an article this morning that AROD said he doesn’t know if his hip will ever be pain free. There are so many reasons not to rely on his return. Meetings on Biogenisis are said to be imminent.

  82. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:05 am

    Mac-

    I like the O’s too.

They’re a little short on the pitching side but they have a great lineup.

  83. blake July 19th, 2013 at 8:08 am

I don’t think Bud will be able to suspend Alex for life or anything and probably nothing beyond 100 games either…..however what Michael Weiner said could be pretty critical in what happens with Alex this year.

If there is enough evidence there that the union isn’t going to back him in a not guilty plea then he may in fact have to take some sort of deal…..and whatever suspension they do give him will probably have to take place whenever it’s dealt…….I’m not relying on Arod anyway…..but if he’s suspended they need somebody to play 3B if they want a shot this year.

  84. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:10 am

The Rays are gonna be forced to trade Price soon.

Of course they’re smart enough to use him to reload with instead of just letting him walk for a draft pick.

    ;)

  85. blake July 19th, 2013 at 8:10 am

Given the Yankees needs….if I had to steal one player in baseball I think it’d have to be Machado. Harper and Trout might have more overall upside…..but Machado plays right side infield and could solve one of those spots for the next decade plus…….outfielders are easier to find and the yanks have more options coming there.

  86. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:11 am

    Blake-

I don’t think any suspensions will be served this season.

    Especially not one for A-Rod.

  87. 86w183 July 19th, 2013 at 8:12 am

    Good morning folks!

That list points out another problem for MLB.

There are just two African American players on the top 20 list. Other than Matt Kemp and Andrew McCutchen you have white guys, mixed race guys and hispanics.

I also want to see the Yanks move strongly in one direction of the other. either get two bats and go for it or sell off impending FA and start the re-build a few months early.

Enough of treading water and hoping that reinforcements solve all the problems.

  88. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:15 am

    Blake-

Machado is extremely impressive and will only get better.

I don’t know what Profar will be but he’s another one to watch.

  89. austinmac July 19th, 2013 at 8:15 am

    MTU,

I love the O’s lineup too, but the Rays now have some offense(that means actually scoring runs in the event we have forgotten) to go with their pitching. There is no doubt the Yankees are at best the fourth most likely to win per the pundits.

We can always bury our head in the sand and claim bias.

Another bias claim that bugs me is the idea of a Yankee tax for trades. At one point teams probably relied on George’s whims to take advantage. Now, I don’t see it. The reality is others don’t see the value in our chips we Yankee fans see.

  90. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:16 am

    86-

We appear to be on the same bandwagon.

    :)

  91. jacksquat July 19th, 2013 at 8:16 am

They should bring Arod up today. Two or three more days in the minors isn’t going to make any significant difference. I don’t know why they are so insistent on using the max 20 days, in fact it makes me suspicious.

  92. pat July 19th, 2013 at 8:22 am

Schilling still saying last night that Alex won’t play another game in a Yankee uniform.

Smart money would take the over so either Schilling is blinded by hate or should be charged with insider trading.

Really curious to see if the Yanks make a serious bid for Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez. It would be a real pick-me-up for the fan base to see them go get that guy or at least be seen trying.

Also, great to see Pineda with a really strong performance.. 4 2/3, 3 H, 8 K. He threw 91 pitches and is probably ready to come up now or after one more start. If they are going for it Hughes for a bat makes perfect sense with Pineda/Phelps stepping into the rotation.

  94. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:23 am

    Mac-

No one really knows how other Teams value our assets or what they might bring back yet.

The Trade market is still forming.

Values are dynamic rather than static in nature.

    We’ll see.

I’m sure there are many lines of communication open and a wide net has been cast.

It would be foolish to do otherwise.

    86w183 July 19th, 2013 at 8:12 am
    Good morning folks!

That list points out another problem for MLB.

There are just two African American players on the top 20 list. Other than Matt Kemp and Andrew McCutchen you have white guys, mixed race guys and hispanics.

Non-Hispanic Black or African Americans comprise about 12% of the US population, and 10% of this list, so I don’t see the problem.

Meanwhile they comprise far more than 12% of Pro Basketball and Football teams, is there a problem in those leagues?

  96. 86w183 July 19th, 2013 at 8:26 am

Another bias claim that bugs me is the idea of a Yankee tax for trades. At one point teams probably relied on George’s whims to take advantage. Now, I don’t see it. The reality is others don’t see the value in our chips we Yankee fans see.

    *************************************************************************

Absolutely. Go to other fan blogs and you see the same complaints that THEY are treated unfairly in trade discussions.

Fans always over rate their own kids. It’s the nature of the beast.

There is no “Yankee Tax” and more than there’s a “Red Sox Tax” or anyone else. Teams make the best deal they can, period. Just because we think the Yankees’ reported offer for Player X is superior that doesn’t mean Player X’s team agrees.

  97. blake July 19th, 2013 at 8:26 am

I would guess the last thing the Yankees would want to happen is to bring Alex up on Monday and then have him suspended a couple of days later…..Weiner’s comments may have changed things…..before you could bet on even if Alex was suspended that he’d get to play the balance of the season because of the appeal process…..but if the union isn’t going to back him on that then…..well it could be a different story.

  98. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:26 am

    Schilling doesn’t have a clue.

Unless Alex re-injures himself he’ll be playing in Texas.

I wonder who Schilling will think is impersonating Alex.

  99. 86w183 July 19th, 2013 at 8:29 am

    jacksquat —

The “problem” is that while blacks represent a disproportionally large share of pro athletes in many sports it’s LOWER in MLB.

That’s why MLB is trying so many initiatives in the inner city.

I believe the actual percentage of major leaguers is now in the 6-8 % range.

  100. 86w183 July 19th, 2013 at 8:38 am

Weiner’s comments were clearly a warning to players that the majority of the membership want the guilty punished and the MLBPA will act accordingly.

Either way, suspensions are almost certainly going to take effect in 2014.

Keep it mind it was about three and a half months from Ryan Braun’s positive test confirmation to the ruling by the arbitrator and that was just one case, not possibly 20 or more.

  101. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:40 am

All I know is that the Yankees better play like their collective pants are on fire in the next couple of weeks or they will definitely get taken to the cleaners.

Their season might just hang in the balance.

It would be nice if Cashman and co. would do their part too.

    ;)

  102. blake July 19th, 2013 at 8:41 am

“Meanwhile they comprise far more than 12% of Pro Basketball and Football teams, is there a problem in those leagues?”

    fair point….

  103. blake July 19th, 2013 at 8:43 am

I do think it’s important that mlb get african americans playing baseball again….it just strengthens the quality of play when everyone is playing the game. Its the best game in the world…..I’d love to see everyone playing it

  104. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:43 am

    86-

    That’s why I said Schilling doesn’t have a clue.

There may be a love-hate relationship between the Yanks and Alex but right now they need each other.

It’s too complicated to selectively hand down punishments in the middle of a pennant race.

  105. 4TrainNorth July 19th, 2013 at 8:47 am

How is DP the only Red Sox player on this list? What happened to #redsoxnation?

Feeling extremely conflicted about getting Al back. If he goes yard in his first at-bat again (al his last dramatic return, against the O’s), I’ll weep with joy. And then I’ll be living from AB to AB with him.

  106. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:48 am

I wonder if anyone thinks that Edwin Jackson would be a good comp for Hughes ?

Relatively young guy. Good stuff. Spotty results. Never really reached his ceiling.

    Opinions welcome.

  107. 86w183 July 19th, 2013 at 8:48 am

Oh I think the suspensions will be handed down in the next 30 days.

I just don’t think they will take effect until 2014. the only exception(s) might be players whose teams are out of post-season contention who want to get it out of the way now.

No impending FA will take his medicine now because they know their future earnings will be negatively impacted either way and they will want to collect their paychecks for the rest of this season.

An interesting upcoming battle is the MLBPA trying to keep the suspensions private pending appeal and the Commissioner’s office indicating they will be announced at the time.

  108. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:51 am

    86-

    You might be right.

All I really care about is when they might be served.

On that we are in agreement.

  109. MTU July 19th, 2013 at 8:57 am

Let’s say a-Rod decided to cop a plea of 150 games to be served starting in 2014.

That might actually be quite advantageous to the Yankees.

The reason being that while suspended that portion probably gets removed from the 189 calculation.

In effect giving the Yankees an extra roughly 20 mil to play with for next season while still
    meeting their goal.

Terrakain, two excellent posts on previous thread with outstanding analyses.

Of course it appears no one is interested in a discourse about a topical and controversial subject.

Too busy debating the merits of which players jerseys are selling better! ;)

Not sure I agree with the level of racism you attribute to them but do understand it.

They do not assimilate well to other cultures and as an island nation tend to be more insular.

And can see where their personalities can be off putting, which I find is true of the vast majority of Asians in the U.S.

Nice job raising the level of discourse on a sport’s blog.

Prepare to be admonished for being off topic, or worse yet being ignored. I look forward to seeing more posts raising the bar!

  113. 4TrainNorth July 19th, 2013 at 9:01 am

In the midst of this season of relative woe, I think you have to cheer for Al–at least initially. I can overlook the steroid thing somewhat, as many of us did with Giambi when we cheered for him. I just wish Al didn’t make it so difficult with his odious personality.

Let’s say we wait until all of the facts are in before deciding Arod’s fate?

If he’s found guilty and “convicted” by MLB and not newspapers or fans ,his best course of action would be to reach a financial settlement and retire.

Except Manny is trying to come back, a major league team has signed him and some here were actually suggesting the Yankees should have signed him!

So while Arod’s situational morality is suspect what does it say about Texas and Yankee fans?

In the realm of who cares, my sister is going to tonight’s Yanks-Sux game. Her firm does a lot of work with WB Mason and they gave them two tickets to their box. You couldn’t pay me enough to sit out in this crap. My dad always told us that the best seat was right in front of your television. In these dog days of July, I have to say I agree. I’ve been ordered to their beach house by my six-year-old warden – that would be my niece – so my fear is that unless things change and it turns into a crappy beach day down there before I depart, I will be watching Thumbelina instead of Ys baseball.

Thankfully I will be able to DVR tonight’s YANKEE WIN and watch it when I’m back home. In fact, I may end up having to DVR the entire YANKEES SWEEP depending on how long I’m down there.

GO YANKS!!! And my fingers crossed that it rains at the beach.

If Jackson/Hughes comparisons are valid and I believe they are, and considering Jackson’s most recent contract.

Not only should Hughes bring a good return if traded but why wouldn’t the Yankees decide that given their “starter shortage” for 2014 decide maybe they should keep him?

I will repeat once again that you can never have enough pitching and without a sufficient return would not give away either Hughes or Joba.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

  251. Home Remedies For Candida Yeast Infection Symptoms September 1st, 2014 at 3:14 pm

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
