    That lineup is pathetic.

  2. Locke July 19th, 2013 at 3:47 pm

It’s better than it has lately. I think the Yankees will rally tonight and get the win. Go Yankees!

  3. blake July 19th, 2013 at 3:47 pm

Hope Andy has a shut out in him tonight…..

  4. yankeefeminista July 19th, 2013 at 3:48 pm

    At least Robinson’s playing…

  5. mick July 19th, 2013 at 3:48 pm

The lack of Jeter hurts this week as they face 10 games against 3 other potential playoff teams, but in a move I questioned, they panicked and brought Jeter up ONE DAY? before they should have…Try one week or so early. Hafner and Gardner were excuses.
Why is Arod getting the full 22 days rehab and Jeter so much less? Any fan could have seen Jeter favoring the left side and, of course, that effected the right. Right?
One good burst on the basepaths did him in. BaseballGod interference? YES.
Take the week off, be back for TB then the Dodgers with buddy Alex…
Make a trade(s)….there’s always the Wild Card.

Rich in NJ July 19th, 2013 at 3:44 pm

This is probably the best they can do with the players on the 25 man roster and it is a much better lineup in Beantown than it would be in NY with a RSox LHP on the mound.

Gardner & Ichiro can use the wall with slap hits & Doubront isn’t overpowering.

Pronk can use another day of rest. Cruz & Gonzalez wouldn’t add anything. That only leaves Romine & Stewart should be fresh.

Sad! I’d like to see Musty playing 3B.

  7. ac1 July 19th, 2013 at 3:52 pm

I actually think the lineup looks a bit better than it has. I mean we have seen gonzalez and cruz and romine in the same lineup. This is way better. Not great but better. Putting alex in there on monday will make it look a lot better whether he is good or not.

  8. comnsnse July 19th, 2013 at 3:52 pm

    Cruz we hardly knew ye!

  9. RayVT July 19th, 2013 at 3:53 pm

    mick July 19th, 2013 at 3:48 pm

All the more reason Jeter should have stayed in ReHab until today.

  10. ac1 July 19th, 2013 at 3:53 pm

I think musty will get a week in aaa before they decide whether he can help us.

  11. Rich in NJ July 19th, 2013 at 3:53 pm

“Sad! I’d like to see Musty playing 3B.”

I would play Adams at 3B and Musty in the OF.

  12. ac1 July 19th, 2013 at 3:54 pm

I really don’t think jeter being rushed back is the problem here.
He ran ok in aaa, and truthfully this is a quad injury.
It could have happened running to first in aaa too.
    Just one of those things….

  13. Frankg July 19th, 2013 at 3:54 pm

Rich in NJ July 19th, 2013 at 3:44 pm
    That lineup is pathetic

Agree, starting with the starting pitcher.

Jeter could play, he just couldn’t run full speed. Most people would be kept in rehab until they could. I imagine that he’ll limp his way into the line-up without adequate practice at hitting.

  14. RayVT July 19th, 2013 at 3:55 pm

    comnsnse July 19th, 2013 at 3:52 pm

Cruz is better than Gonzalez. That said I guess both are gone soon anyway. Jeter & ARod. It would be nice if the Yanks could carry 1 less P & bring Musty up too.

  15. comnsnse July 19th, 2013 at 3:55 pm

Ray, respectfully, “Pronk could use another day of rest” coming off a horrible season and 4 days of rest?

He should be rested permanently by DFA him.

  16. comnsnse July 19th, 2013 at 3:56 pm

Ray, let’s DFA the Pronkster and bring up Musty who can serve as the RH 1b?

  17. RayVT July 19th, 2013 at 3:56 pm

Rich in NJ July 19th, 2013 at 3:53 pm

I understand. I don’t think Adams comes up again until Sept 1.

  18. RayVT July 19th, 2013 at 3:58 pm

    ac1 July 19th, 2013 at 3:54 pm

True, but he didn’t run full speed all the time in AAA which IMO he would have had another week to gradually get back to speed.

  19. mick July 19th, 2013 at 3:58 pm

I can’t believe people couldn’t see what was obvious to me, that Jeter was not running with the same stride down the line.
    Minor league games vs Major…really?
Panic move, unnecessary…for what? A game against Minny?
They got off easy, he should be back soon, maybe when he should have…

I guess I’m in the minority here, but I still like Hafner. I think he could still be a difference maker. I truly believe he has been hampered with a shoulder issue. This week off could do wonders for him. I would give him the rest of July & maybe 1 wk in Aug to find it. He could be a difference maker on a team that truly needs some.

  23. Tyler July 19th, 2013 at 4:00 pm

Red Sox signed Contreras to a minor league deal. And after all that complaining of George buying every hotel room, they still got their guy!

  24. ac1 July 19th, 2013 at 4:01 pm

Its true jeter could have maybe benefitted from extra gradual running in aaa, but he beat out that infield single in the first and didn’t hurt himself.

  25. mnmboys July 19th, 2013 at 4:01 pm

Lets go Lillibridge! Hope he has a repeat of the 3 run bomb I saw him hit at Scranton last night. Musty is Rusty. Dude just got off the DL and wasn’t tearing it up in the minors. Not saying he couldn’t help right away but he should get more AAA at bats before he is rushed up and slumps and gets buried by Joe the way Romine has.

  26. mick July 19th, 2013 at 4:01 pm

In short order there will be no need for Hafner as Jeter and Arod will be the everyday DH’s.
Throw in Almonte when Grandy gets back and Haf can be a LH PH.

  27. RayVT July 19th, 2013 at 4:02 pm

    ac1 July 19th, 2013 at 3:59 pm

Yes they rushed them back as well. I understand the sense of urgency, but urgency shouldn’t replace Common Sense! No pun intended “comnsnse”!

  28. mick July 19th, 2013 at 4:02 pm

he beat out that infield single in the first and didn’t hurt himself.
    ==============================
Well, the wear and tear of the 2nd time he had to bust it down the line did him in.

  29. ManningRules July 19th, 2013 at 4:02 pm

After all this time they finally got him –

Red sox RHP Jose Contreras to a minor league deal.

    sweep?

  31. Rich in NJ July 19th, 2013 at 4:03 pm

“Agree, starting with the starting pitcher.”

You think Pettitte is pathetic? His ERA since coming off of the DL isn’t great although it’s below 5 (about .55 above his pre-DL ERA), but in that time his K/BB is 2.67, which is above his career average.

  32. RayVT July 19th, 2013 at 4:06 pm

    mick July 19th, 2013 at 4:01 pm

Things have a way of working themselves out. If Pronk goes on a tear the next 2 weeks, we will all be slapping him on the back.

I see Nunez & Pronk as players who will be much improved this 2nd half. Also Robbie too. I’m hoping Wells will.

  33. ac1 July 19th, 2013 at 4:06 pm

I know we are focused on how far back of boston we are but we are also only 3 out of wildcard game. I feel like no matter how far we are from first, we wont admit we need to rebuild while we are in the wildcard hunt.

Side note, if we were in the al central, we would be 1.5 games out of first place and in the nl west we would be in first….. Sucks

  34. mnmboys July 19th, 2013 at 4:06 pm

Mick – I couldn’t agree more. Jeter has an obvious limp from the reconstructed ankle. That is going to put other areas at risk compensating for that ankle. If not a Quad, maybe a calf, maybe a knee. Sad to say it but that ankle maybe something that good ole #2 may never overcome. I want to go vomit at the thought….

  35. astrocityfan July 19th, 2013 at 4:06 pm

i still think they should give r. ruiz a shot. they need power and he has been producing. So what if his defense is poor. This team is starved for offense and if they are not going to make a trade they have to try everything.

    RayVT
Just think they will not have room for Hafner when Jeter and Arod are back.
Chances are both of them playing the field at the same time will be slim.
Even with a RH pitcher one of them will prolly DH.
If they do play the field Almonte can DH.

  37. Howler July 19th, 2013 at 4:11 pm

How long has it been since Hafner went on a tear…he was fine while his body rested up from the winter break, the stress of playing so often during the season just dragged him down. I’d be surprised to see him go on any type of a tear the rest of the year. If he even gets that chance.

  39. Yankee Trader July 19th, 2013 at 4:12 pm

Is this going to be the Rangers starting pitching soon?
    Ogando ERA 2.93
    Perez 3.00
    Darvish 3.02
    Holland 3.08
    Garza 3.17

  40. mick July 19th, 2013 at 4:13 pm

There was widespread panic and indignation here when Hughes was rushed back.
Why not the same for Jeter?

  41. RayVT July 19th, 2013 at 4:14 pm

    Howler July 19th, 2013 at 4:11 pm

You may be right. I know he has hit some balls hard lately (foul & caught) but a respite here of a week should do wonders for him. He is a professional hitter IMO. The Yanks need him very badly so I think he gets more of a chance to succeed!

  42. mick July 19th, 2013 at 4:15 pm

True there is a numbers thingy! I believe the Yanks will send a pitcher down though. May be Joba.
    ==========================
    Most likely they trade Joba.
We should be seeing position players sent down or dfad from here out.
Phelps and Warren could flip flop.

  43. mick July 19th, 2013 at 4:17 pm

They need a C badly. Like when they got Pudge Rodriguez they could get Carlos Ruiz.
They will get a RH 1B to platoon, maybe Young or Wigginton.
Help is on the way …

  44. mick July 19th, 2013 at 4:20 pm

Jeter has an obvious limp from the reconstructed ankle.

  45. Howler July 19th, 2013 at 4:21 pm

And we all know what a stellar pick-up Pudge was.

  46. Howler July 19th, 2013 at 4:25 pm

With an injury like that you aren’t going to see any type of a limp go away for quite some time, so with that, would you have just benched him till next year?

  47. mnmboys July 19th, 2013 at 4:34 pm

You don’t bench until next year. You run him out there and hope for the best. Same thing with everyone coming back from DL stint with the exception of maybe a pitcher with an arm injury. Those you be more cautious. I have no problem with them rushing Tex, Youk, Jeter, Arod or Granderson. There is no tomorrow. They can be double digits out of 1st anyday now.

  50. Wave Your Hat July 19th, 2013 at 4:39 pm

If ARod doesn’t hit the ground running on Monday, the Yanks will likely be dead meat by the time Jeter gets off the DL, much less by the time Jeter is actually able to play reasonably well which I assume will be at least several weeks after that.

  51. Howler July 19th, 2013 at 4:39 pm

Yea…that could be a lefty DH, outfielder option.

  52. Warning Track Power July 19th, 2013 at 4:41 pm

To date Yankees 3B are hitting around .225. You would think Brent or ARod can

Joba has the skillset to be terrific still. I don’t think he got along with the military mindset of Joe G & all the issues over the years of SP/RP rules. It appears that after his injury this year that he has given up being a Yankee. I wish he was traded to the NL becuase I don’t want to have to face him. I expect next year he will be in the running to be a SP again.

It would not surprise me if he ended up with the Mets.

Never underestimate the impact of really expensive legal talent.

Bud might be the commish but the man is a fool and will say anything in public to make

Bud and his goons have paid for info, hired people to harass supposed “sources” for any and all information they can gather. Who cares if the info they pay for is true or not.

Overpayment is relative, but my point is simply that teams usually make competitors pay more for a player they want to acquire. So as long as the Yankees see themselves as playoff contenders, Detroit is a competitor and any trade with them should reflect that.

  94. Warning Track Power July 19th, 2013 at 5:22 pm

Just like with Ryan Braun. Rule #1. Boneheads hire boneheads. Look at the Steinbrenner family.

  96. DONNYBROOK July 19th, 2013 at 5:23 pm

Yeah, I woulda passed on Pettitte to open this series. Kuroda woulda been my opener.

    DONNYBROOK July 19th, 2013 at 5:18 pm

ARod spent 2 hrs with MLBPA lawyers. I am sure ARod knows a lot more than Bud does.

The funny part is ARod could get suspended for say 150 games in 2014. The Yanks get a break for their $189M, ARod gets to truly heal & then ARod could sue MLB for falsely charging him. He probably has inside info on 100′s of players using if not more & could charge Bud & the gang for singling him out while ignoring others. ARod could win a proverbial mint of dollars & come back in 2015 still under contract.

Circumstancial evidence, evidence taken from a medical facility (Patient Rights), leaked information by MLB including Bud himself all could lead to a jury trial for the ages.

  101. DONNYBROOK July 19th, 2013 at 5:26 pm

Ryan Braun got off due to the vote of 1 man that was on a panel that was collectively bargained. Just judging from the Union Chief comments, he is Not tip\toeing around A-Rod and Braun either. All bums like A-Rod and Braun do is make his job even tougher.

  102. Hans Davenport July 19th, 2013 at 5:28 pm

    Dickerson…(age 31) 102 AB…4-13-.245 (.274 obp)

……why would we consider Dickerson ???

Because he’s just what the Yankees need. A veteran mediocre LH bat. He would be indispensable.

  103. RayVT July 19th, 2013 at 5:30 pm

It isn’t a matter of what Bud & his boys have, it is a matter of tainted evidence from a felon with expenses all being paid by MLB. The burden of proof is on MLB & Bud not ARod. You can be sure as smart as ARod is, if he did use the stuff from Biogenesis it truly wouldn’t have been under his name directly.

  104. DONNYBROOK July 19th, 2013 at 5:30 pm

To me the games outta the gate vs Boston are too Important to hand one to Pettitte.
Just me, but I believe that wanna be Saw Bones is gonna say he personally stuck the needle in A-Rod. THAT, would be damming regardless of what you think of the guy. Just the picture it paints based on this guys rep would make A-Rod look cheap and insecure. An, “I’m melting” moment for a super star.

  105. Rich in NJ July 19th, 2013 at 5:33 pm

“All bums like A-Rod and Braun do is make his job even tougher.”

Oh please, but for Selig looking the other way, the entire PED era may have been different.

He is reaping what he helped sow.

  106. Hans Davenport July 19th, 2013 at 5:33 pm

Just judging from the Union Chief comments

Do you have a link to said comments from Union Chief? The last thing I read, from the union was that the earliest any suspensions, if any, were served would be 2014. Due to appeals of course. The union is sworn to protect these guys. This Union Chief, he’s not Chief Dan George is he?

  107. RayVT July 19th, 2013 at 5:35 pm

    DONNYBROOK July 19th, 2013 at 5:26 pm

You can’t go by the banter of MLBPA or Bud or ESPN. They are looking for headlines or postering for support. I think MLB’s firing of the arbitrator that let Braun go could also come into play as the new person being put in an unfair position.

Bud is so delusional in his own world power that he doesn’t realize he is the defense’s best defense.

  108. Warning Track Power July 19th, 2013 at 5:38 pm

At the end of the day, ARod has already been proven guilty in the public eye.
ARod will be associated with PED’s going forward.
So in that sense, Bud and his goons have succeeded in destroying ARod’s rep as a PED user.

When the news first came out about BIOGENESIS and until today, how many months have passed?
Like someone else said, Bosch is a convicted felon who is having his rent paid by MLB
and food put on the table courtesy of MLB. Just how much can he be trusted?

  109. mick July 19th, 2013 at 5:56 pm

@McCulloughSL: Jeter: “I don’t think they trust me too much anymore. So they put me in the MRI machine again . . . I can’t fake out the test.”

  113. austinmac July 19th, 2013 at 6:01 pm

    Warning Track,

AROD’s lawyers will certainly make those points vehemently. The MLB side better have much more than Bosch’s testimony. They act as if they do. We’ll see.

It is surprising how the union seems not to have much fight about this. Is it truly because most of the players want the violators kicked out? That position does change the game somewhat.

  114. Hankflorida July 19th, 2013 at 6:01 pm

Starting Andy today means he pitches in Texas on Wednesday and does not pitch against the Rays. The pitchers against the Rays would CC, Hughes and Nova. I would have gone for broke with Kuroda tonight and Andy against the Rangers and Rays. I am looking at how close we are at the trading deadline if we are going to deal and am looking for the best match ups to get there.

  115. Hans Davenport July 19th, 2013 at 6:12 pm

It is surprising how the union seems not to have much fight about this. Is it truly because most of the players want the violators kicked out? That position does change the game somewhat.

I don’t think that is it but I don’t know for certain either. The union had little bluster with the Braun case either. They let it play out. They have already said that suspensions if any will like be served in 2014 at the earliest. What else do they need to say? My belief is they are letting MLB make all the comments and create all the leaks. To me, the casual observer MLB and Bud Lite are the ones looking bad. I don’t think they need to do anything but handle each case as it comes up. Sometimes I think this will be as big a joke as the Mitchell report.
Until now I didn’t think I could have less respect for Selig and MLB but its happened.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
