TIME/TV: 4:25 p.m., FOX

WEATHER: Chance of rain kind of throughout. Forecast has been changing a little bit.

UMPIRES: HP Tim Welke, 1B Paul Emmel, 2B Dan Bellino, 3B Mike Everitt

CHANGE OF PLANS: Jon Lester has been scratched from Sunday’s scheduled start because of “general wear and tear.” Instead of facing another lefty, the Yankees will go against right-hander Ryan Dempster.

CENSUS BUREAU: With Brent Lillibridge playing in Friday’s game, the Yankees have used 45 players this season (18 pitchers, 3 catchers, 15 infielders, 8 outfielders, 1 DH), matching their total from all of last year (45 in 2012: 22 pitchers, 3 catchers, 10 infielders, 10 outfielders). The Yankees last used more players in 2011 (48). The franchise record is 51, a number reached twice (2008 and 2005).

OFF AND RUNNING: Brett Gardner had two stolen bases last night giving him 152 for his career to surpass Horace Clarke (151) and Roberto Kelly (151) for sole possession of 10th place on the Yankees’ all-time list. Next on the list is ninth-place Mickey Mantle (153) followed by eighth-place Fritz Maisel (183).

UPDATE, 4:27 p.m.: Gardner and that stupid head-first slide into first, but it’s a leadoff single here in the first.

UPDATE, 4:28 p.m.: Wow. That’s a brutal turn.

UPDATE, 4:41 p.m.: Little stumble by Nava helped a little bit, but that’s a pretty strong throw from Wells to get the out at the plate. Scoreless after one.

UPDATE, 5:36 p.m.: Nunez trying to push things this inning. It helped him to get to third, but he was off on a sharp grounder and thrown out at the plate.

UPDATE, 5:41 p.m.: The Fenway crowd is booing at little bit as Gardner hits an RBI single up the middle for a 1-0 Yankees lead in the fifth.

UPDATE, 5:54 p.m.: Three outs at the plate today, including that one to end the fifth inning with Kuroda successfully getting out of trouble and keeping the Red Sox off the board.

UPDATE, 6:10 p.m.: There’s an error by Cano, who’s not having a particularly good game. He’s hitless, in a game when Overbay has two doubles behind him.

UPDATE, 6:34 p.m.: The Matt Thornton addition isn’t working out so well for the Red Sox today. The Yankees have scored three runs here in the seventh and have a 4-0 lead.
