This is what Joe Girardi said before tonight’s series opener in Texas: “You’ve got to score runs. However you do it – whether you hit doubles, homers, triples, singles, or steal bases — if you score runs, you’ve got a chance to win.” The Yankees had no chance to win tonight. Shut out for the eighth time this season, the Yankees were beaten 3-0 by Yu Darvish and the Rangers. The Yankees were shut out seven times all of last year. This was the second consecutive game without an extra-base hit for the Yankees. Lyle Overbay had two singles, and Ichiro Suzuki had one. The Yankees only other base runners were two walks and a hit batter. Ivan Nova was solid once again, but a couple of walks and a solo home run led to three runs through seven innings. He would have had to be something beyond perfect to have a chance to win.
