Alex said he should not play Sunday and Monday, guess what today is. Is he playing? No.

  2. AndyFTM July 24th, 2013 at 8:11 pm

It’s basically turned into a war now. Both parties acting with little class and little sense.

There will only be one winner when it comes to a head…

I’m expecting Andy to throw well, and Cano might do some damage tonite

  3. Shame Spencer July 24th, 2013 at 8:11 pm

Good start we need to capitalize before Garza gets in any sort of groove.

  4. TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:11 pm

I hate watching Yankees on ESPN. Announcers are so bias.

  5. joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:12 pm

Gardner and Ichiro go back to back and a belly to belly.
    What were ejecting? Homers?

  6. TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:13 pm

Just 1 run here would be nice…

  7. joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:15 pm

A good throw and I think Gardy was toast.

  8. Hans Davenport July 24th, 2013 at 8:15 pm

Let’s see… Adams shouldn’t be playing 3b because he “failed” to hit ML pitching in his 116 at bats? Well then if Lillibridge has only hit .206 in his 683 ML at bats, he has been a “success”? Hmm? Yea that makes sense. The other night someone called Lillibridge a “tried and true veteran”.

  9. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 8:16 pm

I have seen enough of Overbay in the middle of the order

  10. joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:17 pm

Agree with you on Lillibridge. Adams is terrible, though.

  11. Shame Spencer July 24th, 2013 at 8:17 pm

    Motherf*ck

  12. joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:17 pm

    So have I, Captain

  13. TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:19 pm

Alfonso Soriano is willing to join the Yankees.

    Nice…

  14. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 8:19 pm

They should try batting Nunez 2nd and move Ichiro and everyone else down a spot. Also Overbay should be batting after Wells.

  15. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:19 pm

At least they had a major accomplishment that inning- two hits and two SBs but no runs. Now that is hard to do but this years yanks make the impossible possible

  16. Shame Spencer July 24th, 2013 at 8:20 pm

    Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:19 pm

    #Sads

And Andy gives up a hit on his first pitch lol.

  17. joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:20 pm

    TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:19 pm
Alfonso Soriano is willing to join the Yankees.

    Nice…

Did he ask for money to waive the no-trade. Just curious.

  18. Hans Davenport July 24th, 2013 at 8:20 pm

    joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:17 pm
Agree with you on Lillibridge. Adams is terrible, though.

And you are basing that on seeing him play ho many games?

  19. Tyler July 24th, 2013 at 8:20 pm

Overbay has been pretty brutal batting cleanup. I know he got the 2 hits against Yu but lots left on base.

  20. mick July 24th, 2013 at 8:21 pm

“As early as Friday, July 12, when I suggested to Alex that we move his rehab from Tampa to Triple-A Scranton (at Buffalo), Alex complained for the first time of “tightness” in his quad and therefore refused to consent to the transfer of his assignment.
    ==========================================
So Alex decided he didn’t want to go to Buffalo.
So he makes up a quad injury.
They check the MRI and find nothing but go along with it as it fits their agenda.

How’s that for a conspiracy theory?

  21. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 8:21 pm

That play has been a bugaboo for Andy, not surprised they tried it.

Now he needs DP. Darn 1st innings…

  22. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:21 pm

    Pettitte gonna get someone hurt

  23. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 8:22 pm

Oh great. Here we go with Pettitte….He is killing them early in these games.

  24. Shame Spencer July 24th, 2013 at 8:22 pm

    Scary stuff:

@GregJohnsMLB Here’s full story and player reaction to news that #Mariners manager Eric Wedge suffered a mild stroke. http://atmlb.com/170DuaF

  25. TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:22 pm

    Oh poo.

  26. Tyler July 24th, 2013 at 8:22 pm

Texas bunting in the 1st is so dumb. They did it yesterday too. Washington is lucky he has a good team because he’s a garbage manager.

  27. igotid88 July 24th, 2013 at 8:23 pm

    TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:19 pm
Alfonso Soriano is willing to join the Yankees.

    Nice…
    —-

He didn’t want to leave in the first place. I’m sure he would like to come back

  28. TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:23 pm

@Joe- He said he is willing to waive his no trade clause. Yankees and Cubs still have to work out the financials.

  29. mick July 24th, 2013 at 8:23 pm

MLB should come down any day now on their plans for Alex.
He prolly won’t play before that…

  30. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:23 pm

The most eventful five pitches AP ever threw

  31. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 8:23 pm

The fast guys are going to bunt on Pettitte like 1-2 times a game. It’s happening in every start now, he should get used to it by now.

  32. Hans Davenport July 24th, 2013 at 8:23 pm

    joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:17 pm
Agree with you on Lillibridge. Adams is terrible, though.

And of course as an expert you see no chance of improvement.

  33. Shame Spencer July 24th, 2013 at 8:24 pm

@PWSullivan Soriano appears ready to waive no-trade clause for Yanks if deal consumated. Wants chance to win before he retires. http://trib.in/12MsJr9

  34. mick July 24th, 2013 at 8:24 pm

Texas bunting in the 1st is so dumb.
    ===========
    Testing Andy?
Andy needs to skip a start.

  35. TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:25 pm

Pettitte continues to struggle in the 1st inning. Mama mia…

  36. Tyler July 24th, 2013 at 8:25 pm

Ugh Pettite just needs to skip the 1st.

  37. Shame Spencer July 24th, 2013 at 8:25 pm

    Tyler July 24th, 2013 at 8:20 pm

Overbay has been pretty brutal batting cleanup.

    —————

I’m a little too afraid to check the production we’ve gotten from the clean up spot…

  38. pkyankfan69 July 24th, 2013 at 8:25 pm

AJP could have been our catcher for less than Youk cost…

  39. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 8:25 pm

Pettitte and CC continue to make the same mistakes. They both miss over the plate way too often especially lefty on lefty.

  40. Hans Davenport July 24th, 2013 at 8:26 pm

    joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:17 pm
Agree with you on Lillibridge. Adams is terrible, though.

Thanks anyway I didn’t really expect you to have much concrete evidence to back it up.

  41. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:26 pm

If we got three hits in one inning, the next pitch would be a bases loaded triple play

  42. deltajoe July 24th, 2013 at 8:27 pm

    Andy needs to retire

  43. joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:27 pm

What can I tell you Hans, 4A is 4A. But you could be right, he is going to get some more shots so we’ll see. If you are right, I’ll admit it. But I don’t think you are.

  44. Shame Spencer July 24th, 2013 at 8:28 pm

    I’m a glutton for punishment:

    .219 .294 .340 .634 with 115 strikeouts, 36 walks, 11 HRs and 43 RBIs.

That’s what we’ve gotten out of the clean up spot so far this year.

  45. Niblick July 24th, 2013 at 8:28 pm

Another crappy start for Andy. When is he going to realize it’s time to retire?

  46. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:28 pm

What the heck is gloppy.com ?

  47. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:29 pm

    What the H is gloop.com ?

  48. Boston Jim July 24th, 2013 at 8:29 pm

Anyone see the flip/dp escobar from the rays just made on the Sux? Wow

  49. Howler July 24th, 2013 at 8:29 pm

at least he didn’t dive for it.

  50. mick July 24th, 2013 at 8:29 pm

    oh well….

  51. Shame Spencer July 24th, 2013 at 8:30 pm

They’ll probably put Andy on the DL for a week or two and let Phelps pitch in his spot.

  52. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:31 pm

    Look in that crowd
    Is half of Texas obese?

  53. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 8:31 pm

In a week or so the Yanks could have Jeter, Granderson and Soriano added to the lineup. Overbay, Hafner and Wells in the middle of the order is really ridiculous at this point. Guys get on base and very really can those guys bring them in. Unless they hit one of their singles of course.

  54. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 8:32 pm

I think this will definitely be Pettitte’s last year. It’s hard to believe that he is being paid $12m this year.

  55. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 8:32 pm

Let’s just see what Andy does the rest of the night. He has been known to turn it around after a rough first inning.

  56. TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:32 pm

@Hassey- They say everything is bigger in Texas, so yea.

  57. TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:33 pm

    Garza is nasty.

  58. pkyankfan69 July 24th, 2013 at 8:33 pm

I think Melky Mesa swings with his eyes closed.

  59. joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:34 pm

Lets see if Pettitte can somehow nurse us through six innings and maybe we can string five singles together.

  60. Niblick July 24th, 2013 at 8:34 pm

Must be the worst lineup in baseball.

  61. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 8:34 pm

I would’ve liked to have gotten Garza.

  62. pkyankfan69 July 24th, 2013 at 8:35 pm

WOW…. What a misleading quote from YES fron DR Gross…. That was PATHETIC

  63. TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:35 pm

    @Unknown- with what prospects?

  64. joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:37 pm

I wish Selig would get off his ass already and do something, one way or another.

  65. Chip July 24th, 2013 at 8:39 pm

The way the Yankees are smearing this doctor is disgusting. I feel like this is the kind of crud we should expect from the Mets – not the Yankees. At least not the Yankees I grew up rooting for and respecting.

I’ll preface it by saying that if it turns out that the Yankees are just doing this to keep Alex on ice despite him giving them a better chance of winning in an attempt to save money then I’ll have to seriously re-evaluate how I spend my entertainment dollars in regard to this team.

  66. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 8:39 pm

Supposedly the Rangers are also trying to get Rios. Their organization reminds me of what the Yanks used to be….aggressive and willing to do almost anything to win. Now the Yanks are old and cheap.

  67. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:40 pm

I remember a great old Monday Night Baseball game on ABC, must have been done by Keith Jackson, where Winfield won it with a triple off the CF wall in old Arlington Stadium…. Was it Oddibe McDowell or did he come later?

  68. TrueYankee July 24th, 2013 at 8:41 pm

@Captain Clutch- take that back. We are aggressively targeting Soriano. So we are still old, but not cheap :D

  69. Howler July 24th, 2013 at 8:42 pm

Nice inning by Andy…hope they can get something done now.

  70. AndyFTM July 24th, 2013 at 8:42 pm

“There will only be one winner when it comes to a head…

I’m expecting Andy to throw well, and Cano might do some damage tonite”

Well im 0 for 2 on those so far lol.

I’d welcome Soriano back, always had obvious flaws in his game but he will help this lineup just with his power threat

  71. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:44 pm

Anyone else see that Brazil shark attack & attempted wave runner rescue, all caught on film?

  72. joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 8:44 pm

Nasser, all I remember about Oddibe MCDowell what that Bill White pronounced Oddibe differently very time he got up.

  73. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 8:44 pm

TrueYankee – That would’ve been the problem. I think the Rangers gave up too much to be honest.

  74. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 8:45 pm

TrueYankee- Sorry they are willing to take older players if the other team pays most of their contract. Cashman is going to try to build a whole team on players that he other teams wanted to get rid of so he gets a discount.

  75. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:45 pm

This stadium is like the wildebeest or Frankenstein of parks

Bits and pieces here and there from every other park, like Frankenweeny

  76. chicken_stanley July 24th, 2013 at 8:47 pm

Chip – listening to, not watching the game… what are the Yanks/YES saying to discredit the dr? Everything I’ve seen so far has come from the media

  77. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 8:47 pm

Garza is a free agent after this year. But mlbtr said the Rangers are going to offer him a big deal and try to get him to sign before free agency. If he does it will be worth it but he is also injury prone.

  78. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:47 pm

Make Gardner do push-ups per popup

  79. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:48 pm

Strike two to cano biggest pitch of the game right now

  80. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:49 pm

Garza up to 95 but I’d like our real lineups cjances

  81. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:49 pm

Ichiro’s doesn’t beat anything out anymore

  82. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:51 pm

Cash and Alex are like the war of the roses

  83. Pat M. July 24th, 2013 at 8:52 pm

I can smell Randy Levine’s involvement all the way out here in So. Cal. He might have got The Steinbrenners their new palace, but the cost is that he’s taking the organization down . Well the baseball side of things right now . Tin Cup is sitting at the Cape just shaking his head, I told you guys !!!!

  84. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 8:52 pm

Hassey your going for the Golden Sombrero tonight.

  85. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:52 pm

Anyone here take Kinsler for 12 instead of Cano for 25?

  86. mick July 24th, 2013 at 8:52 pm

How much does A Quad have left Chip?
With a suspension looming, maybe they can live without him another week?

  87. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:53 pm

I’ll be on PTI with Millar after the game

  88. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 8:54 pm

Where was hardy playing on that? By the rf tarp?

  89. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 8:58 pm

Score this man some runs. CMON

  90. NYY fan in NH July 24th, 2013 at 9:00 pm

Pettitte and CC have been weak links in the rotation for quite some time. They both give up big innings and the team has to play catch up with an anemic offense.

  91. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 9:01 pm

Will the Yanks score a run tonight?

  92. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 9:06 pm

Maybe the Yanks should switch the 7th, 8th and 9th hitters with the 4th, 5th and 6th hitters.

They get almost nothing from the middle of the order.

  93. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 9:08 pm

Well when you can’t hit anything at all but a fastball you’re going to struggle as a big league hitter.

  94. Pat M. July 24th, 2013 at 9:08 pm

    Man that pitch was done

  95. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 9:09 pm

this is a big hump game. If we can find a way to win this one we will have a good chance to have a great week

  96. Pat M. July 24th, 2013 at 9:09 pm

Check that … That pitch was down

  97. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 9:12 pm

Oh great here comes the Arod talk….

  98. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 9:15 pm

Again this game isn’t on the pitching. (Man I have been saying that a lot this year)

  99. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 9:20 pm

Wow this game is so exciting…

  100. Hankflorida July 24th, 2013 at 9:20 pm

Last righty home run in May, and last lefty two weeks ago. Come on guys as it is the easiest way to score as it is hard to hit like Willie Keeler, “where they ain’t,” unless it is in the seats.

  101. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 9:21 pm

May the 15th since an active Yankee RH hitter has hit a bomb. Holy Schnikes!!

  102. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 9:22 pm

    I’m confused
Are our lefties Punch and our righties Judy
    Or
Is it the other way around?

  103. Hassey July 24th, 2013 at 9:24 pm

This has all the makings of shutout number 50

  104. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 9:28 pm

Listening to Susan talking to Feinsand about the Arod situation is um, interesting…

  105. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 9:32 pm

Susan just can’t understand what’s going on. Shocker I know…

  106. MG July 24th, 2013 at 9:37 pm

Andy has made some changes in his pitching pattern, getting away from the fastball for strike 1 and using his curveball more to get ahead.

There is nothing wrong with his stuff, he just isn’t able to locate his fastball with the same pinpoint accuracy he has when he’s pitching really well.

I don’t see how you can call him done when his stuff is still good-if he was throwing 85-86 mph fastballs in bad locations that would be a sign it was time to quit but he’s still throwing 89-90

  107. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 9:40 pm

    YES GARDY

  108. MG July 24th, 2013 at 9:41 pm

Almost a 2013 Yankees home run-ground ball to the pitcher and 2 wild throws get Gardner to 3rd…

  109. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 9:41 pm

    Score him here guys.

  110. rm July 24th, 2013 at 9:41 pm

GGBG if fun to watch when he runs like that

  111. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 9:42 pm

I am glad Ichiro just swung at the 1st pitch. Watch the Yanks not score this run now…

  112. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 9:42 pm

Surprised they are going to pitch to Robbie

  113. tbone1570 July 24th, 2013 at 9:42 pm

    Hankflorida July 24th, 2013 at 9:20 pm

Last righty home run in May, and last lefty two weeks ago.

    **********************************************

The last home run by a righty was at the end of June. Nix took Yu Darvish deep on 6/25.

  114. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 9:43 pm

Tim Hudson was just carted off the field with some sort of leg injury. Hopefully it’s not as bad as it looked.

  115. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 9:44 pm

    Idiots. HAHAHA

  116. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 9:44 pm

Why would you pitch to Cano with Overbay and Wells batting behind him? lol

  117. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 9:52 pm

Once again lefty on lefty. Get Petitte out of this game.

  118. Tar July 24th, 2013 at 9:54 pm

Just got home, but that HR wasn’t a bad pitch. That was just good hitting by AJ.

  119. RYUKINGDOM July 24th, 2013 at 9:54 pm

I knew something happens to our starters in the 6th inning lately.

  120. igotid88 July 24th, 2013 at 9:55 pm

Hughes could have used today’s umpire

Clutch you can’t just pull the starter every game before the 7th. Especially when the pc is low and they haven’t really given up many runs.

If this team could just score a little bit, not even at league average things would be just fine.

  124. Mordot11 July 24th, 2013 at 9:58 pm

Andy has pitched a pretty good one tonight. Here’s hoping they can get him a win.

  125. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 10:00 pm

Battle back. We really can’t be losing many more games when we give up 2 runs or less.

  128. comet July 24th, 2013 at 10:03 pm

This is a horrible team to follow night after night. I had forgotten how tough it is to follow teams like the Yankees post 1964 and after the early eighties. We’ve been spoiled.

  129. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2013 at 10:05 pm

This 1st pitch swinging has to stop. Some of these at bats are absolutely brutal.

  130. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 10:07 pm

Isn’t that something KLong can help with. Try to drill in a philosophy and some good hitter intellect.

  131. ac1 July 24th, 2013 at 10:08 pm

Cpt. I said a while back i feel part of thr first pitch issuenis on girardi. Obviously the players cant be countedon to not swing so he needs to start putting take signs on, particularly the younger guys.

  132. Hankflorida July 24th, 2013 at 10:09 pm

The last home run by a righty was at the end of June. Nix took Yu Darvish deep on 6/25.
    TBone,
Thanks for correcting me as I got that stat from one of the blogs. I will keep the countdown from that date for righties and July 14 for Lefties. I bring this stat up because I saw the reinventing of the Yankees with Swisher leaving and Suzuki signed to play with Gardener. As Trisha said, this is the hybrid Yankees with economy and not the A-Rod power gas guzzling Yankees. I like power even if costs more. As I said before, “Hal, fill the tank as much as you can by removing the cap.”

  133. ac1 July 24th, 2013 at 10:12 pm

The stat is last rh homer by active player.

No problem Hank, I had heard both at various points today and just decided to look it up after your post. A power offense is a good thing to have but the problem this year is the power had been replaced by not much of anything.

  136. JD July 24th, 2013 at 10:21 pm

Anyone know if the Cubs would be willing to give up a catcher along with Soriano if the Yanks threw in a pitcher and maybe little more cash? See their catchers pretty much split the duties down the middle but I don’t know anything more about them really besides their stats. Guess I should look at their contracts but thought I ‘d pick lohud’s brains a little on this one.

  137. UnKnown July 24th, 2013 at 10:22 pm

    Well still in it.

  138. JD July 24th, 2013 at 10:25 pm

Meant to say Romine and a decent pitcher (warren ,Nova, Phelps) + pay more of Sori’s contract for Soriano and a catcher like maybe Navarro. Pipe dream? Too much?

  139. bruceb July 24th, 2013 at 10:26 pm

This is so frustrating to watch. Texas are struggling offensively but the few chances we do have, we completely let them off the hook. Overbay has killed us lately. Now it’s reached a stage where our starter can throw a gem and we still lose.

  140. igotid88 July 24th, 2013 at 10:26 pm

Funny that of the Yankee starters with 100+ ip. Hughes is 2nd on the team

  141. joecembrale July 24th, 2013 at 10:27 pm

Rather get McCann from the Braves. He’s a catcher but more importantly, he can Dh so we can FDA Hafner.

I like this Yankee team. They keep themselves in games with good pitching defense and timly hitting. If they really get Jeter back and add Soraino’s bat they could win enough games to make the playoffs If Granderson comes back they could have enoug pop to win the division. I would be really interesting if A-Rod comes back and becomes WS MVP just before they try to ban him for life. I think I’ll root for that.

Stewies has had a lot of timely hits – considering he is such a poor hitter. Overbay has had some timely hits. Early on Wells and Hafner got some timely hits. They don’t get many hits but they win many more game than they should considering they have no hitters.

I’ve got to go now there are some guys in white coats at the door to ask me about my A-Rod comments.

    88,

In the end it comes down to this… They have their eyes set on going under 189… That means they can’t extend Hughes… So he is either gone after the season, or he is traded before the trade line…. They have more pressing needs… Also, I think he will want to go West
