what happened to the comments? same thing as yesterday?

  2. Chad Jennings July 30th, 2013 at 7:30 pm

No. This was something different. Trying to figure it out.

  3. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 7:38 pm

It sounds like the Yankees are going to trade (speculating) Adam Warren for Alberto Callaspo.

The Yankees have been in touch with the Angels about third baseman Alberto Callaspo.

    TRADE DEADLINE

The Angels have made nearly everyone available, as they try to rework their roster for next year and beyond. The Yankees have been looking for help at third base, and they don’t appear to be Michael Young’s first choice (or even his second).

Other teams have also asked the Angels about Callaspo, whose .671 OPS is more than 100 points higher than what Yankee third basemen have done so far. The Yankees are 30th among the 30 big-league teams in almost every offensive category at third base, where they’ve already used seven different players (most recently Brent Lillibridge).

The Yankees theoretically have Alex Rodriguez coming back to play third base, but even if A-Rod is physically capable of playing, the coming Biogenesis suspensions could well rule him out as an option.

No to Callaspo from me. Unless they don’t give up too much.

  5. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 7:39 pm

    Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1

Can confirm friend @DKnobler report #Yankees have indeed talked to #Angels about Alberto Callaspo, think an option, not front burner

    Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1

Callaspo is switch-hitter who is better against LHs (a Yankee need) who plays 3B, where #Yankees might need further A-Rod insurance

  6. igotid88 July 30th, 2013 at 7:40 pm

That would be good for Warren. He’ll get a chance to start more.

@Joelsherman1: Mike Morse very available. #Yankees liked in offseason when #Nationals were moving him, but told no serious talks with #Mariners at present

Woukd bd big upgrade at 1 b
    —————–
that seems like a really good fit for them as well.

That would be a pretty good haul at the deadline-Morse and Kendrick, if you need to give up some prospects it makes them much better for sure.

this was my reasoning a few days ago . . .

(Morse has since come off the DL so, the QO applies to him as well)

    ____________

Not on the front burner? That implies the Yankees have a 3B on the front burner. Since it’s not Callaspo, I wonder who it is?

    Headley?

    Prado?

    Sandoval?

    Zimmerman?

  9. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 7:50 pm

The Mariners have made Michael Morse available in the trade and the Yankees had already shown interest in him back when the Nationals were first shopping him. Washington was asking for a package of Ramon Flores and Jose Ramirez, says Trenton Thunder beat writer, Josh Norris, a deal the Yankees obviously balked at.

    -Pinstriped Bible

Who would the Mariners want for Michael Morse?

  10. Tar July 30th, 2013 at 7:52 pm

    “Headley?

    Prado?

    Sandoval?

    Zimmerman?”

    Alex Rodriguez

  11. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 7:53 pm

Would not give up Warren for Callaspo.
Warren is on the Phelps path and Callaspo is ok but not going to replace Alex at 3rd.

  12. Tar July 30th, 2013 at 7:55 pm

I like the Kendrick rumors better.

  13. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 7:55 pm

Yankees have “renewed interest in Alex Rios”

The question is what the Yankees would even do with another outfielder at this point. They previously checked in on Hunter Pence in addition to the latest Rios rumor. With Vernon Wells, Brett Gardner, Ichiro Suzuki, Alfonso Soriano, and presumably Curtis Granderson all healthy, it seems that adding an additional outfielder to that wouldn’t really be necessary.

    -Pinstriped Bible

    ________________

There must be a team that has called on Granderson or Gardner.

    Ichiro-RF
    Rios-LF
    Soriano-DH
    Wells-4th OF

That leaves Granderson or Gardner for CF

I wonder which team is interested in a Yankees CF and I wonder which CF – Granderson or Gardner.

  14. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 7:55 pm

    Would rather have Kendrick too…
Could maybe move him to 3rd.
Still sticking to my desire for Trumbo.

  15. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 7:56 pm

Jesus, they said the Rios interest is past now that they have Soriano.
    Don’t know about Pence.

  16. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 7:58 pm

No they said after Soriano the Pirates were on Rios and the Yankees threw their hats back in the ring on Rios.

I think they must have calls on Granderson or Gardner.

I wonder if the Pirates might be interested in Granderson.

  17. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:00 pm

Would the Pirates do Garrett Jones for Granderson?

The Yankees tried to get Jones for Burnett so there’s a precedent set of real interest there.

  18. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 8:02 pm

Jesus i just read it a couple hours ago.
The writer said they are not back in on Rios.

  19. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 8:05 pm

Did anyone see jesus montero is on that suspension list?

  20. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:05 pm

Rumors connecting the Yankees to White Sox outfielder Alex Rios started days ago when it was reported that the team viewed him as a backup plan in case their deal for Alfonso Soriano from the Cubs fell through. After reports earlier today claimed that the Pirates were on the verge of acquiring Rios were said to not be close after all, MLB.com’s White Sox beat writer says that the Yankees are throwing their hats in the ring once more.

  21. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 8:09 pm

Ok jesus i am on an ipad and cant find the story i read from earlier so there is no point. Either way, there is no point in another outfielder, even if granderson went…

  22. UnKnown July 30th, 2013 at 8:11 pm

Obvious Alex broke the comment section for a period of time.

  23. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:13 pm

It seems the AZ Diamondbacks are serious about bringing back Towers’ old friend Jake Peavy. Peavy might thrive back on the West Coast in a warmer climate. This seems to be the driving force behind AZ attempt to move IPK and clear salary room for Peavy.

There seems to be some action there for the Yankees. If ATL loses out on Peavy then Hughes becomes a potential destination for the Yankees. Also, the Yankees could help clear salary room for Peavy by taking Martin Prado off Towers’ hands for prospects like Betances. Towers loved him as a Yankee exec.

  24. Nick in SF July 30th, 2013 at 8:13 pm

I’ve seen Montero’s name on the Biogenesis list many times, but is there now a suspension list out there?

    —————————————————————————————

Pirates are going to try to use their system to get good big leaguers. They are in 1st now with the win in game 1 today and going to go all out for it. Doubt they’d do that.

  26. Tyler July 30th, 2013 at 8:15 pm

IPK, Hughes, and Joba (sort of) all on the trade block. Not how that was supposed to work out :(

  27. Melkmanisinhotlanta July 30th, 2013 at 8:16 pm

Jesus Monterro will need to stay in Seattle. Perhaps Cashman saw the writing on the wall with the potential PED abuser. Good trade Cash!

  28. UnKnown July 30th, 2013 at 8:17 pm

This is going to be a fun series. Yankees vs. Dodgers in LA.

    Can’t Wait!!! *Bart Scott Voice

  29. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:17 pm

Who would the Pirates trade for Granderson from their minor leagues?

  30. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 8:17 pm

I know adonis garcia is questionable in the outfield, but he sounds like a good hitting prospect. How can we get him up here?

  31. UnKnown July 30th, 2013 at 8:18 pm

    Daniel Barbarisi ?@DanBarbarisi
Yanks/Dodgers pregame field packed like it is for All Star game or World Series – players, agents, tons of media, LA Beautiful People

  32. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 8:18 pm

Nick no list but i read it in an article earlier on hbt and they listed him as one of those in the deal phase. Take it with grains of salt.

  33. JT July 30th, 2013 at 8:18 pm

    Prospects are just that….prospects.

    Love Howie Kendrick….

  34. sevrox July 30th, 2013 at 8:19 pm

Anyone bothered by the fact that Nix is starting at 3B ahead of Adams? Fer chrissakes, WHAT DIRECTION IS THIS FLEKKIN’ TEAM HEADING IN?

  35. Tyler July 30th, 2013 at 8:19 pm

    Bret-

I don’t know that much about their system but I know they have some high end pitching prospects. I don’t know if they’d be interested in Grandy coming off injury or if what they’d give up would be better than a potential draft pick. Just can’t imagine them giving up a big leaguer like Jones when that team looks really solid right now.

  36. Tyler July 30th, 2013 at 8:20 pm

Howie Kendrick would be awesome. It would make losing Cano to the Dodgers much easier to take at 2B.

  37. Nick in SF July 30th, 2013 at 8:22 pm

ac1, gotcha. I think Montero would accept a deal where they strip him of his catcher’s mitt for the rest of his career.

Alex Rios makes a ton of sense, let’s go get him. The thinking is, since we’re not getting anything from 3rd base, let’s stop having a 3rd baseman. Instead trade for Rios and have a 4th outfielder as a rover. We will out-Maddon Maddon and storm into first place with our shifty outfield!

  38. k lynn July 30th, 2013 at 8:22 pm

    ………………………….

  39. pat July 30th, 2013 at 8:23 pm

Union rank and file may not like Alex but it appears the executive board may like Bud doing an end around on the JDA less…..

“Selig potentially resorting to such tactics, even if they are a bluff, miffed a number of players on the MLB Players Asssociation’s executive board, sources said. The union’s cooperation throughout the Biogenesis investigation has been paramount to the pursuit of suspensions, and Selig could run the risk of starting a massive fight with the union if Rodriguez continues to refuse to negotiate.”

  40. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 8:24 pm

Hahaha 6 outfielders at 1 time and no 3b. That and jeter patroling the left side.
We can way out madden madden…

  41. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 8:25 pm

Id like to have kendrick too..
    He kills us.

  42. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:26 pm

Kendrick only makes sense if they trade Cano for a 3B. Maybe deal him to the Nats for Rendon?

  43. chicken_stanley July 30th, 2013 at 8:26 pm

    ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 7:55 pm
    Would rather have Kendrick too…
Could maybe move him to 3rd.
Still sticking to my desire for Trumbo

    —–

ac1 – been high on the possibility of Trumbo for a while… can’t see us getting him, however. Oh well

  44. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 8:27 pm

    Cano is going nowhere….
I think there was a hope kendrick could move to 3b.

  45. blake July 30th, 2013 at 8:28 pm

So Cervelli is getting suspended too

  46. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:28 pm

I dont think Kendrick makes sense at 3B

  47. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 8:29 pm

Cervelli isnt coming back soon so it doesnt matter.
That and Romine has finally remembered how to hit…

  48. k lynn July 30th, 2013 at 8:31 pm

If they want to win, they keep Cano.

  49. ac1 July 30th, 2013 at 8:33 pm

They are 2.5 out of second wildcard. They are not trading Cano…
Hughes is different because we have pitching that can replace him.

  50. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:33 pm

I believe they’ll keep Cano as well. I just don’t see how Kendrick makes sense unless they moved him.

Kendrick could easily play 1B but that still leaves you without a 3B and what happens next year when Tex returns?

I just don’t think Kendrick is a target.

Trumbo or Callaspo are more likely.

And since we are kind of half-ass buyers under Cashman, Callaspo is more likely.

  51. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:34 pm

And I’m starting to think Hughes to ATL makes the most sense. I would do it for one of their top 10 at this point.

  54. k lynn July 30th, 2013 at 8:40 pm

the red sox have already won their game against the lowly mariners.

  55. Pat M. July 30th, 2013 at 8:40 pm

Jesus Bustero……Cashman isn’t calling the shots and hasn’t in quite some time.

  56. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:41 pm

    Blake,

I’d trade Hughes for Peraza + Cunningham.

  57. joeman July 30th, 2013 at 8:41 pm

can’t see Alex Rios at all….they have enough OFers now and that are coming back next year…

  59. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:47 pm

    Pat M,

What are you hearing from the Angels?

    Have the Yankees called on:

    Trumbo?
    Kendrick?
    Callaspo?

  60. k lynn July 30th, 2013 at 8:49 pm

Cashman isnt calling the shots???? This entire team, aside from Alex, is Cashman’s dream creation.

  61. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:49 pm

    Erick Aybar?

  62. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:50 pm

We actually match up well with the Angels. We have pitching depth and need ML ready bats. I could see us calling on Trumbo + Kendrick + Callaspo + Aybar.

  63. Jesus Bustero July 30th, 2013 at 8:50 pm

    ——–> Step into my office

  64. Tabbert July 30th, 2013 at 8:51 pm

    CF-Gardner
    SS-Jeter
    2B-Cano
    1B-Morse
    DH-Soriano
    LF-Grandy
    RF Ichiro
    3B Callaspo?

That lineup would be pretty damn good vs lefties.

  65. Pat M. July 30th, 2013 at 8:53 pm

Callaspo and to a lesser extent Howie. Also the word on Hughes is that Cashman has set a high price for him and the word is that they will offer a one year deal and let him walk . Dodgers want to improve their rotation and will spend for Cliff Lee. Callaspo is not really the answer as he’s alright but Howie can flat out play as Yankee fans know. Nova and parts would be needed for things to move ….

  66. chicken_stanley July 30th, 2013 at 9:05 pm

Pat M. – Wow! Just my opinion… Howie isn’t worth Nova + parts. He can rake (especially against the Yanks) but how does he fit? Status quo has to change before he’s a consideration at that price. What do you think?
