Report: Rodriguez negotiating possible settlement

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Jul 31, 2013 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

According to ESPN’s T.J. Quinn, Alex Rodriguez’s representatives have entered negotiations with Major League Baseball about a possible settlement rather than face the possibility of a lifetime suspension. Quinn is not reporting that a settlement has been reached, only that the two sides are discussing the possibility.

AROD, pls do not agree to a settlement. Lifetime ban is better.

  2. ac1 July 31st, 2013 at 9:23 pm

    I wouldn’t worry.
I don’t see MLB letting him back before 2015.
At the very least, a 2014 suspension would help Hal reset the luxury tax.

  3. MTU July 31st, 2013 at 9:23 pm

    Whatever.

Let’s just be done with this circus.

  4. XLJ07 July 31st, 2013 at 9:23 pm

If Arod is smart he should accept a deal and try to negotiate to a 130-150 games. That way he can return next year.

Yanks will save a lot of money with Arod getting suspended. Getting under 189 million will not be as difficult. Would be even better if David Adams can start hitting when he gets called back up sometime this season.

“But sources said after being told of MLB’s evidence, A-Rod’s reps are talking”

LMAO!!!! Guess Arod didn’t tell his attorneys the real deal. What a d*ck.

Also pretty much amazed that some of you guys didn’t believe there was so much evidence against him. Here’s a hint: Innocent people don’t negotiate settlements.

I’d actually feel much better knowing that those of you still propping up Arod were doing it out of your own indifference to his cheating and not due to your actually believing in his innocence.

But whatever. I wish he fought it and was banned for life, but like the fraud he is, it appears he’s caving rather than “holding his ground”. Ugh.

The good news if this is true. No Arod stench this season anyway.

    ***********

For those who don’t believe in the importance of good D, the Sux were leading the Mariners 2-1 in the 5th, based on 2 unearned runs due to two errors by Mariners players. Thankfully, the Ms got the runs back and are now leading.

    GO M’S!!!!!

If any suspension is served it should be 50 games

    MLB is negotiating too.

As an aside, and as a favor to all chocolate lovers here, Godiva is having its semi-annual sale. Up to 40% off selected items and an extra 10% off if you’re a Rewards Member (I am). I get nothing out of this other than the joy of seeing others joining me in chocolate hell – though with the amount I’ve spent there over the years, I should be stockholder!

So sick of Aroid. Hasn’t played 1 game this season and is the center of attention yet again.

    “MLB is negotiating too.”

Well duh, the party with the upper hand, you know the one holding all the cards, typically does that to get what they want out of it. If you know anything about negotiating, you always ask for more in an effort to get what you actually want.

  11. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 31st, 2013 at 9:30 pm

    Just sayin’….

  21. Mordot11 July 31st, 2013 at 9:34 pm

I think MLB overplayed it’s hand by suggesting a lifetime ban. Based on what other players are getting it would be very hard to convince a courtroom (where this would inevitably end up) that there is no prejudice on the part of MLB toward ARod. Even if you consider that they will attack him for violating the CBA in addition to the Joint Drug Program, it turns out that the extra 15 games added on the the Braun suspension were based on CBA violations. While I am definitely not a lawyer, it would seem that trying to go from 15 games in the Braun to a lifetime ban would be a stretch regardless of the evidence against him.

I am guessing that MLB may have been advised by its lawyers that going after a lifetime ban could result in Alex getting no suspension at all, which would obviously be a disaster.

I could see this becoming something similar to Braun, in the realm of 75 games. That said, who the hell knows and let’s get a win tonight!

I’m just arguing a general principle. The evidence discussed, if true, sounds overwhelming. One could fight and perhaps win if it’s just Bosch’s word. It sounds like a bunch of documentary evidence as well.

Because it’s still his first offense. I know MLB is trying to add extra stuff but it should be all included in the first offense. Melky, I don’t believe got extra for the fake website. This was Braun’s 2nd and he only got 65.

Since it is already brought up to the world, arod might as well take the settlement bec. his lawyer talking about settlement is already an acceptance of guilt. It is not as if arod can not get a topnotch lawyer that settlement, even if innocent, is the most prudent thing to do.

  38. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 31st, 2013 at 9:44 pm

Mordot, I am a lawyer, and so is Austin, and I guarantee you that MLB had enough evidence to fight a good case for a lifetime ban, or Afraud and his lawyers would not be negotiating at this point. Its Afraud who appears to have agreed to negotiate after saying he would fight ANY punishment – not MLB. Reports are that Cervelli is ready to accept a plea deal. I want you to guess how Cervelli likely heard about Bosch – no, we can’t be unequivocally sure, but looking at the names on that list, at least take a guess. And how about Montero, Arod’s former teammate? Can’t you imagine that one of MLB’s major questions would be “How did you hear about Biogenesis?” Arod has potential trouble a-plenty.

austin – I certainly know what you’re saying about the general principle. And yes you are right.

MTU, he is definitely going to get a lot more than Braun got. And that will be based on what he’s done in the past coupled with whatever they have on him now.

If his body doesn’t entirely betray him and he can somehow stay in shape and be healthy, he still has a contract.

    Someone wanted Carlos Pena.

Unless Hafner (everyone’s favorite) is on the DL the rest of the year or we want to ‘change just to change’ …always a really good philosophy….

    Pena (35)

    280 AB

    8-25 – .209

    .324 obp

    vs RHP = .204

    RISP = .220
    ===================================

    Hafner (36)

    260 AB

    12-37 – .205

    .300 obp

    vs RHP = .213

    RISP = .263

    ===========================

I guess Pena walks more….otherwise, Hafner does have the edge (however sad)

Pena = No thank you; not useful at all.

There are a few (not many) scenarios where AROD comes out OK here. It looks like MLB may have done some dirty possibly even illegal things to gather the evidence. Maybe even enough to lead to a criminal investigation. AROD has very good lawyers and he may have more leverage than we know about. But probably not

Interfering with the investigation seems to be the CBA issue over the JDA 50 game suspension not recruiting other players.

Union telling MLB they aren’t getting a lifetime ban and telling Alex he’s not getting no suspension. Encouraging both sides to agree to now to what arbitration would eventually get to and save the lawyers fees and hassle.

MLB does not have to accept a settlement on Alex’s attorney’s terms. They have a mountain of evidence that once presented to said attorneys, had them 180 their position of appealing any penalty to willing to plea for a settlement. Because of this powerful, compelling evidence that has Arod’s attorneys backing away from a confrontation, MLB has set the tone of the settlement and can secure a settlement on MLB’s terms.

Yes, I also read that they’re throwing in his misrepresentation about his association with Dr. Gallea (I guess that would be the perjury?)

We are never going to know the true extent because it will be sealed by both parties, just like we don’t know everything with Braun and he was sworn to secrecy.

Arod recruiting others there will likely not be disclosed in order to protect the players in question, though I have to believe it was disclosed to Arod and his laywers generically. (We used to do things like that in grievances all the time in order to protect others who may have reluctatantly given up information.)

“Tar, it appears your boy is going down. You may as well accept it for what it is an concentrate on the team on the field. Just a suggestion.”

“your Boy” Not very attorney like.

Sounds more Mick like to me.

  83. Jesus Bustero July 31st, 2013 at 10:04 pm

It’s in the best interest of Alex Rodriguez to settle on MLB’s terms. Squirming is a waste of energy when your bare neck is fully exposed beneath the guillotine.

  84. Tar July 31st, 2013 at 10:05 pm

Bud Selig promoted steroid use by promoting the Mcgwire and Sosa HR chase!

Thats my story and I’m sticking to it.

  85. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 31st, 2013 at 10:06 pm

“In the best interest of all parties concerned a deal should be struck.”

Sure. So we can get on with the game of baseball and hopefully have more people following the rules.

“It’s in the best interest of Alex Rodriguez to settle on MLB’s terms. Squirming is a waste of energy when your bare neck is fully exposed beneath the guillotine.”

    This too.

  86. MTU July 31st, 2013 at 10:06 pm

I’ll be more than super glad when this fiasco is over.

I’m hoping it will be a matter of another day or so.

    This needs to end.

  87. Jesus Bustero July 31st, 2013 at 10:07 pm

Something tells me MLB will not let off Arod lightly.

  88. J. Alfred Prufrock July 31st, 2013 at 10:07 pm

I love the Yankees, and I will always root for them.

But man, I don’t feel any kinship with some of the people who also root for the Yankees.

I understand wanting Alex off the team (although I don’t share that wish), to salvage some of the contract, to have an overall cleaner game.

But there are people here who don’t merely want to see him punished, they want to see him destroyed. They want to see him crushed.

I don’t call that morality. I call that a nearly sociopathic lack of human empathy.

  89. MTU July 31st, 2013 at 10:08 pm

    enjoy the game folks.

    See ya’ manana.

    Playin’ with house money tonight.

    :)

  90. Jesus Bustero July 31st, 2013 at 10:09 pm

    Quit with the melodrama proof.

I want 27.5 M back in the pot minimum. Everything on top of that is a bonus.

  91. pat July 31st, 2013 at 10:09 pm

I’m hoping it will be a matter of another day or so.

TJ Quinn says no deadline has been set. Could go through into the weekend.

  94. pat July 31st, 2013 at 10:10 pm

Something tells me MLB will not let off Arod lightly.

Define lightly. What do you think MLB will settle for?

  95. MG July 31st, 2013 at 10:12 pm

MTU, I’m surprised at your change of heart regarding Arod and the long suspension he most likely will accept.

We’ve gone back and forth on this for a few weeks, I’m glad we are on the same side at this point in time but still surprised.

Was it just the realization that he would rather collect a guaranteed $60M than fight for the $100M+ or did you just get angry that he’s a liar who hasn’t played clean in years and years?

Anyway, welcome back from the dark side :)

  97. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 31st, 2013 at 10:15 pm

  100. El Yanki July 31st, 2013 at 11:04 pm

    Arod sure took PEDs..a fact!
But why when Macwire,SOsa etc where riding the MLB circus baseball didn’t bark? Everybody should be treated equally..Arod has not..and dont get me wrong he deserves 65 days away.

Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

I needed to send you one very little note just to give thanks yet again with the magnificent basics you have discussed here. This is so generous with you to offer freely exactly what most of us could have made available for an e-book to help make some dough for themselves, especially seeing that you could have done it if you ever wanted. These things also served like a good way to comprehend most people have a similar keenness much like my very own to learn very much more with reference to this problem. I believe there are lots of more fun situations in the future for many who go through your blog.
