Still waiting for an official announcement from Major League Baseball, but the usual suspects are reporting that 12 players — including Francisco Cervelli — have accepted 50-game suspensions in the Biogenesis scandal.
According to CBS Sports, Cervelli, Yankees minor league outfielder Fernando Martinez, Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz, Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta, Mariners catcher Jesus Montero, Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera, Phillies reliever Antonio Bastardo, Mets outfielder Jordany Valdespin, Astros reliever Sergio Escalona and minor leaguers Jordan Norberto, Fautino de los Santos and Cesar Puello.
Cervelli has twice denied getting anything illegal from Biogenesis but has apparently changed is tune. He was expected the miss the rest of the season with or without the suspension.
Martinez, a former Mets prospect, was acquired by the Yankees mid-season to help their short-handed Triple-A lineup.
It now seems that Alex Rodriguez will be the only player to appeal a Biogenesis suspension.
