Do you have any idea how much it killed Girardi not to write Nixy’s name in this lineup?

With this season being what it is there’s no reason whatsoever for Chris Stewart to play anymore. The Yankees need to see what they have in Romine and even Murphy.

Cut Stewart, cut Joba – call up Murphy and Betances and see what happens.

    Chip-

    I’m all for it.

Most likely that’s just a Sep’t. scenario though.

“If someone claimed Braun, it’s a 118 million dollar gamble that you think he can hit into his 30?s without the juice.”

Or you’re betting that he’d work harder at not getting caught. With Braun, he’s already got a nice contract for years to come, so less incentive to risk it, though, as opposed to players who might need the numbers to get the next contract, a la Melky.

Shouldn’t grandy and a-rod be flipped versus RHP?

  6. blake August 9th, 2013 at 3:41 pm

    I don’t understand why Stewie plays ever…….

You can’t have Granderson and Soriano back to back – Alex has better potential to make contact.

Because he reminds Girardi of Girardi. Which isn’t a good enough reason, but it is the most likely reason.

  9. UnKnown August 9th, 2013 at 3:43 pm

Aww man AL’s not batting 4th…

And how did the Rangers pull off that deal for Rios. Man that’s good for them. They probably win the West again this year.

  10. pulchritudinous August 9th, 2013 at 3:46 pm

    correctamundo, Chip.

  11. G. Love August 9th, 2013 at 3:49 pm

If you don’t believe that Girardi is driving the bus on Stewart out of some deep seeded need to show support for nice guy no hit catchers, you’re not paying attention.

Cashman needs to take Stewart away from Girardi now. It’s becoming a farce. The season’s over and Murphy/Romine need chances to develop up here.

I’d even let Overbay go to a contender that wants a bench bat and play Adams at 1b the rest of the way.

  12. blake August 9th, 2013 at 3:53 pm

it’s annoying to me that Cashman didn’t block Rios for spite…..he was too worried that Chicago would just let him go and he’d have to pay for him next year…….

  13. blake August 9th, 2013 at 3:55 pm

if any of you have read it….I thought that Jim Caple piece from earlier today on Arod was hilarious and probably pretty close to true…..if Alex would just do the opposite of what he thinks he should do every day then he’d be much better off.

  14. UnKnown August 9th, 2013 at 3:58 pm

Costas doing the game tonight? I think it’s a showcase game.

I am astounded Cashman didn’t claim Rios. He would fit right in on the Yanks.

  18. Hassey August 9th, 2013 at 4:15 pm

what I admire most about this Yankee club is that, despite what happened in Chicago, they can turn the page so quickly and move right on to the next sweep

Does it mean the Yanks won’t go for an outfielder at all this winter?

  21. Chip August 9th, 2013 at 4:17 pm

Oooh best part of this trade for the White Sox is that they’re going to use the rest of the season to see what Garcia can do.

I wouldn’t imagine it would be high on the priority list – my guess is that they’ll go into next year with Gardner between Ichiro and Almonte and Soriano as the DH/LF against LHP.

  23. Hassey August 9th, 2013 at 4:18 pm

they’ll sign Pete Incaviglia as a low risk / high reward guy

Who knows, maybe they make a deal – but I would think that other areas (2b, 3b, rotation) will take higher priority.

  26. Hassey August 9th, 2013 at 4:20 pm

we might be a better team if we signed the Giants entire coaching staff and let them each play every day

  27. Wave Your Hat August 9th, 2013 at 4:24 pm

“Who knows, maybe they make a deal – but I would think that other areas (2b, 3b, rotation) will take higher priority.”

They aren’t going to fix third base because ARod will have his suspension reduced to 100 games. They will try to re-sign Cano and Kuroda, give Grandy a QO, maybe take a run at McCann (I say about a 35% probability), and tell us they were active in the free agent market, are getting the injured guys back, and are the 27 time world champions with a timeless legacy.

I disagree with you about Alex; regardless of whether he’s suspended 100 games or the whole season, they’ll look for a 3b just like they did this winter with Youk.

Why would Cano want to spend the next 6-8 years on this team when he could go to LA, make the same money and have a better chance of winning with the Dodgers?

Kuroda’s probably going to retire so that he can play his final few years in Japan the way he wants to.

McCann makes sense – then they can play Murphy at 3b.

  29. Hankflorida August 9th, 2013 at 4:28 pm

If Hal is building a team that will fall under the cap where he will find power outage players to replace Cano and Granderson, then he is playing a numbers game where less attendance is off set by cutting costs If Text and Soriano will be his long ball hitters followed by seven other players with warning track power, then what Hal takes in will drop in ticket sales but may not effect his YES income. George made money by reinvesting his profits as spending more made more. Hal’s Scrooge like attitude would be the opposite as spending less will give him more profits.

  30. Wave Your Hat August 9th, 2013 at 4:35 pm

    Chip-

I’m just saying what I think they’ll do. I didn’t say they’d sign Cano – although I think they will after stiff competition from LA and Detroit because without Cano it’s tap city for the Bombers – and I didn’t say they’d sign Kuroda either. I have no position on Kuroda, who knows what he’ll do. If they don’t get him, they’ll go after Lincecum I guess. They’ll go for another front line starter for sure.

McCann makes sense so I doubt they’ll get him, and I am not unhappy with that since I think they are an also-ran next year no matter what and I’d rather Sanchez not be blocked.

Sanchez just made AA – assuming things go well he’s still 2 or 3 years away. You give McCann a 3 year $39 million contract and that’s fine all the way around.

Assuming Kuroda, Hughes and Andy all go – they’ll target Garza. Or bring AJ back on a 1 year deal…don’t laugh…they gave Javy Vazquez a second chance.

I would be fine if they come through this winter with some combination of:

    Kuroda
    Zobrist
    McCann
    Peralta

    Go with:

    CF – Gardner
    SS – Jeter
    2b – Zobrist
    1b – Tex
    C – McCann
    DH – Soriano
    RF – Ichiro
    3b – JR Murphy
    LF – Zoilo Almonte
    3b – Peralta

  32. yankinvegas August 9th, 2013 at 4:42 pm

The way baseball is now you can not just assume that we will be an also-ran next year. Cano will not got to Det to be the 5th banana behind Miggy, Fielder, Scherzer & Verlander and I just don’t see him with the Dodgers. He will be a legacy Yankee.
To me Rios is no better than Soriano.
I would pass on McCann because of Murphy and Sanchez. Nelson Cruz intrigues me. I would play Nunez at ss & Jeter at 3b until Alex returns.
Whatever it takes, they must bring back Kuroda

  33. Chip August 9th, 2013 at 4:46 pm

woops – gave the Yankees two 3b there by mistake – take Peralta out of the above.

“Sanchez just made AA – assuming things go well he’s still 2 or 3 years away. You give McCann a 3 year $39 million contract and that’s fine all the way around.”

Only in Yankeeland would Sanchez be consigned to the minors in 2015. If the Yankees want to compete they have to let these guys play. McCann’s not signing for 3/39 anyway. Peralta makes sense but the ARod Yanks won’t touch him.

  35. Hassey August 9th, 2013 at 4:48 pm

I like nova tonight to pitch well but what is he gonna do when the tiger hulkamania runs wild? Victor Martinez is now up to .277 which means they won’t miss peralta’s bat except against the tanks

You’re assuming that Sanchez will a) continue to progress, b) not get injured…two things that are far from guaranteed with prospects.

Why wouldn’t the team that is going to some day have Andy Pettitte Day shy away from Peralta?

  37. Chip August 9th, 2013 at 4:49 pm

Sorry – that should be: Why would the team that is some day going to have Andy Pettitte Day shy away from Jhonny Peralta?

  38. JTfromNY August 9th, 2013 at 4:51 pm

Peralta’s one of those guys that has a wildly fluctuating OPS on alternating years. I wonder which years were the ones where he was juicing? hmm…

The guy had a .689 OPS last year and will be 32 next year. Why would we want him?

  39. Wave Your Hat August 9th, 2013 at 4:54 pm

    ———————————

    Two reasons:

    1. He’s better than Eduardo Nunez if something happens to Derek Jeter

    2. Alex will be suspended (probably for the entire season). Peralta’s an average defensive SS but would be an above average defensive 3b. Frankly I would be happy to see David Adams get the chance.

  41. blake August 9th, 2013 at 4:54 pm

McCann is gonna get between 75 and 100 million unless he gives the braves a discount and stays there

  42. fantasygame101 August 9th, 2013 at 4:58 pm

playing romine over stewart more is playing the game with one eye towards 2014. But girardi is not even sure where he will be in 2014 so he is all in for 2013 and does not care about 2014 and beyond.

  43. longtimefan August 9th, 2013 at 5:00 pm

Why would Cano want to spend the next 6-8 years on this team when he could go to LA, make the same money and have a better chance of winning with the Dodgers?

To most of the players it’s all about money, winning is nice if that happens but money talks and bs walks. Cano needs a supporting cast as he has showed this year he is not up to the heavy lifting.

He’s gonna go to the highest bidder IMO

  45. Frankg August 9th, 2013 at 5:05 pm

No need to bring Murphy up to see what we got. With 160 Abs at S/W he’s hitting .269 with 3 HR’s. He’s a converted fielder still learning catching.

Let’s give the guy a chance to improve before we bring him up prematurely because we are frustrated with what we have. He’s not mastered AAA yet.

  46. Shame Spencer August 9th, 2013 at 5:06 pm

It’s kinda tough to evaluate if Cano needs a supporting cast when he’s out there giving a monologue every night.
