Claiborne going down to make room for Jeter

Preston Claiborne will be optioned back to the minor leagues tomorrow to make room for Derek Jeter.

Players optioned to the minors usually have to stay down for 10 days before being recalled, but at the end of a minor league season, players can be called up as soon as their current team’s season ends. Claiborne is likely staying here in Tampa to play for either the High-A team or the GCL team so that he can return as soon as possible as a September call-up.
