    AGAIN?

    Wells behind Arod?

    Joe is just too stubborn.

  2. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:19 am

    Ichiro sits again?

    What is going on here?

I thought he has hit better vs Leftys than rightys?

  3. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:22 am

    Ichiro is 340 vs leftys.

  4. Yankee Trader September 2nd, 2013 at 10:22 am

Wells and Joba belong at the end of the bench.

Will 90 wins get the Yankees into a one game sudden death playoff spot? If so they have to finish 18-8.

  5. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:24 am

Wells hit a couple of ball hard yesterday. Of course, they were sixty feet foul. Is there anyone, anywhere in Yankeeland that wants Wells up in a key spot? Just one, Girardi, it seems.

  7. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:26 am

    Just don’t get it….
How do you take him out of the flow for Wells?
It also hurts them in the field.
Joe is a nice guy but I’m starting to get angry at him….

  8. Yankee Trader September 2nd, 2013 at 10:27 am

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/.....e-quintana

Looks like Joe, based on a minuscule sample size, has Wells, who is 4-4 lifetime vs Quintana, in the lineup.

  9. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:29 am

Did you see the game yesterday Mac?
Buck walks sori and arod in the 1st to get to wells.
In the 3rd same exact thing was happening with gardy on 3rd, 2 out.
This time Sori gets smart and whacks 1st decent pitch for a single and rbi.

batting him behind alex is stupid, at least put reynolds there.

  10. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:33 am

This is not the best possible lineup.

    :(

  11. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:34 am

Sometimes you get the feeling Joe has to put his personal spin on every lineup.
    There is always a surprise…
Ichiro should not be in a platoon with Wells.

  12. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:38 am

Joe keeps Managing like their are endless tomorrows.

Better wake up and smell the rosin. There aren’t.

There are 4/5 teams competing for 1 spot.

    Get that in focus Joe.

They are not holding guys back.

    You shouldn’t be either.

It’s a long OS they can rest then.

  13. DONNYBROOK September 2nd, 2013 at 10:38 am

Joe Jabroni continues to live up to the handle. Dumb-ass.

  14. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:39 am

    Another example.

Mustelier has been tearing the cover off the ball of late.

Why isn’t he up instead of Adams who has shown nothing with the bat ?

    ;)

  15. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:40 am

I JUST DONT GET WHY WITH ICHIROS LEFTY SPLITS WHY HE SITS HIM.
SIT GRANDY IF YOU MUST PLAY WELLS

  16. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:42 am

I wouldn’t sit Granderson for Wells.

    I just wouldn’t play Wells.

    He’s a bench player.

  17. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:43 am

Ichiro is by far the better RFer of the 3.
He might have caught that ball yesterday.

  18. Doreen September 2nd, 2013 at 10:44 am

Plus, Ichiro hits well at home.

  19. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:47 am

This is the time of year when Girardi does not seem like the right Manager for the Yankees.

He is always far to concerned about resting guys.

Most of his older players are fresh because they haven’t played much.

These guys are not china dolls they are professional athletes.

And if they can’t cut it maybe they shouldn’t be playing.

  20. DONNYBROOK September 2nd, 2013 at 10:47 am

Tampa getting Matt Moore back shortly. Yanks needs to take charge of that 2nd Wild Card spot before Tampa gets that Big 3 rolling. Price, Archer, and Moore are not what you wanna be running into when needing to make up ground.

  21. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:49 am

7 of 10 was the homestand requirement.

    Seems unlikely now.

  22. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:49 am

This is not about resting Ichiro.
This is about owing something to Wells.

  23. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:50 am

Right now, Archer is the biggest lock against the Yankees of the 3.

  24. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:50 am

They owe nothing to anyone who is not performing this late with the season on the line.

    Period.

  25. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:52 am

Nobody would be a lock on us if all 3 of our front 3 pitchers were functioning to capacity.

    We’d match up with anyone.

    Unfortunately they are not.

  26. DONNYBROOK September 2nd, 2013 at 10:52 am

This is about Jabroni covering Cashman’s butt. Girardi sits a Healthy Wells vs a LH SP, and it exposes Cashman trading for Wells as a Boner. Both Cashman and Jabroni should Not be retained at season’s end.

  27. exiledintampa September 2nd, 2013 at 10:53 am

Sox DFA’ed Bard. We keep sending Joba out there. Some know how to move on from mistakes. We are not among them. When Wells is still seeing meaningful AB’s next year, then what?

  28. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:53 am

Archer has our #, it doesn’t matter who we pitch.

  29. RhapsodyInBlue September 2nd, 2013 at 10:54 am

They have all winter to rest.

  30. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:55 am

Wells should only be a bench player next season.

And yeah I’d have had no problem DFA’ing Chamberlain when it was obvious no one wanted him.

We have plenty of guys better to fill that spot.

  31. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:55 am

And not only does he play Wells but puts him in the middle of the order behind afod.
bat him 8th….like he did arod

  32. RhapsodyInBlue September 2nd, 2013 at 10:55 am

Wells? I scratch my head. No sense of urgency on Joe’s part.

Maybe I’ll hit a stream this afternoon.

  33. Doreen September 2nd, 2013 at 10:56 am

Girardi’s thinking has been that you use everyone because you will need everyone ( particularly veteran guys). If you don’t play Wells against a lefty he’s had success against (even in a SSS), when do you play him?

Now, I’m not 100% in agreement with this right now. And he can’t sit Ichiro for 4 straight games. So I’m guessing he figured today was Wells” best shot at contributing?

    Whatever happens, happens.

  34. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:56 am

  35. RhapsodyInBlue September 2nd, 2013 at 10:57 am

    Would be a pleasure MTU.

  36. DONNYBROOK September 2nd, 2013 at 10:57 am

My guess is Jabroni is posting here with the handle “Doreen”.

  37. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:58 am

    Doreen-

Who cares if Wells gets playing time or not ?

    He isn’t particularly useful.

I’d rather have Mustelier in his place.

    At least he can hit.

  38. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:59 am

    RIB-

Where are you headed too ?

  39. DONNYBROOK September 2nd, 2013 at 10:59 am

  40. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 10:59 am

    sp: to. sorry

  41. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 10:59 am

Musty should be up here now when he DH’s Arod.
    Not Wells.

  42. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 11:00 am

I think Hal stars in that, right ?

    Along with Levine.

    :)

  43. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 11:01 am

The failure of Cashman to acknowledge the obvious is annoying.

    :(

  44. Captain Clutch September 2nd, 2013 at 11:01 am

If Ichiro is healthy he has to be out there. Girardi’s Stewie and lefty, righty obsession is absolutely ridiculous. He is treating these games like it’s April or spring training. Ichiro is hitting lefties better than righties and Girardi is completely clueless.

  45. RhapsodyInBlue September 2nd, 2013 at 11:02 am

The Battenkill R. on the NY-VT border. I can listen to John and Suzanne on the way over. About an hour from here.

It’s rained the past few days the trout aren’t quite as selective as they normally are.

Hoppers, Ants, terrestrials are good this time of the season. Especially after a rain.

  46. DONNYBROOK September 2nd, 2013 at 11:02 am

If you’re a Mgr and a platton player goes down “looking” with the sacks jacked in Sept, you definitely do Not start that guy the following day.

    RIB-

    What type of trout ?

  49. RhapsodyInBlue September 2nd, 2013 at 11:05 am

Browns with an occasional brook trout. But the browns can get large.

  50. DONNYBROOK September 2nd, 2013 at 11:05 am

Supposed to be “resting” players in the DH Slot and Jabroni opts instead to put a turd in there. Stinks up the entire lineup.

  51. RhapsodyInBlue September 2nd, 2013 at 11:06 am

    I don’t understand Joe sometimes.

  52. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 11:06 am

    Stinks up the entire lineup.

it certainly takes the circularity out of it.

  55. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 11:08 am

By this theory Ichiro or Grandy sits this entire series for Wells.
Like I said, I would take my chance on Musty for the DH in 1 of these games.

  56. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 2nd, 2013 at 11:10 am

“With the best bullpen in the league in the past month, as good as Pettitte has been the last few starts, you wonder why he lets him face Morse and Valencia, and then pulls him when Weiter’s, a lefty lifetime 2-12 with 8 strikeouts vs Pettitte.”

Because he said that the two previous batters had squared up on the ball and with two men on base and nobody out you don’t take a chance when your pitcher is tiring that way. And if he waited out Weiters, then what? Bring Kelley in then, because he perhaps managed to get an out?

Also, with Hughes on the mound today, do you think he wanted to burn the major components of his bullpen? He had already used Logan. If he brings DRob in, he’s potentially cooked for today.

Girardi doesn’t have the luxury of leading in the AL East and therefore mixing and matching with the callus.

He did what made sense to him with the totality of circumstances, and it didn’t work out. The guy didn’t get this team this far and all of a sudden forget how to manage.

  57. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 11:10 am

    Mick-

Musty hasn’t even been called up.

I think it takes a move. That seems to be more than enough excuse for Cashman/Girardi not to use him.

I mean, who needs offense, right ?

    ;)

  58. Yankee Trader September 2nd, 2013 at 11:12 am

Where has all our pitching gone, long time passing?
Where has all our pitching gone, long time ago?
Where has all our pitching gone?
Injuries, fatigue have picked them off, everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Starters need to earn their salaries and bullpen needs to be shutdown. Then there’s still a chance.

  59. RhapsodyInBlue September 2nd, 2013 at 11:12 am

    MTU

Nothing like fresh trout. I typically catch and release but a few of my family members request fresh trout during the season I try to oblige.

I bring my camera. This season has been slow because of the spring early summer rains the waters were not wade-able.

Last season my nicest catch was a 25″ brown I caught on the E Branch of the Delaware on a dry fly. Fall fishing is the best, the water cools the fish tend to feed all day long unlike late evening and early morning in the summer heat.

  60. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 11:13 am

    MTU

We play 4 straight leftys and Musty isn’t up, go figure.
Reynolds, Arod, Musty Soriano…stick him in ther e witht hem and go for it.
    I don’t get it.

  61. DONNYBROOK September 2nd, 2013 at 11:14 am

We got people here defending Jabroni that have to of had kin at The Alamo. It’s a DNA thing.

  62. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 11:14 am

Girardi has a huge number of fully rested BP arms at his disposal.

And Nova had given them a complete game the day before which is like an off day for the Pen.

Still, the only decision I really question was his use of Chamberlain.

That was ridiculous and very predictable.

  63. RhapsodyInBlue September 2nd, 2013 at 11:16 am

    Tom,

I fish a section of the upper river were bait is ok. I fish it because there are less people up there kayaks, canoeists.

I love the solitude, the sound of the river and wild life, just great to be out there.

To reach that plateau, the Yankees need an 18-9 September, a .667 winning percentage for the month. It seems like a daunting task, but the Yankees have matched that pace 26 times in franchise history.

Like I said. It takes extra effort to get Musty up here. And they play their favorites.

You’d think they’d want the bat.

That guy can hit. He’s shown it over and over.

    Pretty stupid.

  69. Captain Clutch September 2nd, 2013 at 11:21 am

Everyone including Girardi knew that Joba was going to blow that game. But of course his reasoning was probably he wanted to go with the experienced guy over Huff, Betances or Warren. He really has to stop with this veteran crap. He is 100% like Torre when it comes to playing veterans who stink over a younger guy who can actually help the team more.

He wants to be here and I think he will be.

    RIB,
I’ve fished that stretch, many moons ago. Beautiful place.

I used to be in Vermont a lot . One of my favorite activities was to get up before dawn and try to catch a mess of brookies, in impossibly small streams, to cook up for breakfast.

  73. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 11:24 am

Claiborne would have been the go to guy but he was 1 day away from the 10 day callback rule.
We have seen the least AND last of Joba.

  74. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 11:24 am

    YT-

They won’t do it unless Kuroda and CC get it together.

And these guys start hitting as a Team not depending on just one or two guys a night to get it done.

I wouldn’t even be starting Hughes at this point. If it were me he’d be in the pen.

Either way Girardi needs to have an extremely quick hook with Hughes.

I wouldn’t care what inning it is.

He has a ton of rested BP arms.

Make use of them if you have to.

    He has 3 long Men.

    ;)

  75. Yankee Trader September 2nd, 2013 at 11:25 am

To reach that plateau, the Yankees need an 18-9 September, a .667 winning percentage for the month. It seems like a daunting task, but the Yankees have matched that pace 26 times in franchise history.

Meant to add that the plateau would be 90 wins.

Jeter hitting .167 , struck out 3 times vs three different pitchers. It would be great to get him back to pre injury form.

  76. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 11:27 am

You know what Al. I do.

If Jeter doesn’t start picking up real soon and Nunez is hitting I’m putting him in there.

It’s too late to mess around.

If you have a good alternative you use him.

I’m hoping Jeter lights off real soon. We don’t have much time left.

  77. Captain Clutch September 2nd, 2013 at 11:27 am

Claiborne would have been the go to guy he was 1 day away from the 10 day callback rule.
    ————–

Yeah, it’s it pretty normal for a team in a pennant race to option their 3rd best reliever for a guy who isn’t even a major league reliever this year. Cashman has major issues.

  78. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 11:27 am

If this game gets rained out we likely play a Doubleheader tmw the 4 against Boston.
We will need Huff or Warren and prolly HUghes goes too.

At this point in the season batting Jeter 2nd is hurting the team.

I love Jeter, but, right now Nunez is by far the better option both at bat, and in the field.

  81. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 11:29 am

Cano killed them more than Jeter yesterday.
He looked awful, the bad Cano again, he is so streaky.
    Arod was just as bad.
At least Jeter moved gardy over in the 1st.

  82. UnKnown September 2nd, 2013 at 11:29 am

So you want to be an umpire huh?

Check this link out and the video that goes with it, which shows pitches coming across the plate from the umpire’s view. Good luck calling those corners.

Let’s get back on track today. I think the Rays continue to struggle out West maybe only winning like 3 games this week. If we can win 5 out of 7 that would be great.

  83. mick September 2nd, 2013 at 11:32 am

and why do you cool off Reynolds who was on fire or was that just a fluke to gigardi.
you ride it while its hot….

Musty hasn’t even been called up.

I think it takes a move. That seems to be more than enough excuse for Cashman/Girardi not to use him.

I mean, who needs offense, right ?

    =========================================

Ron Mustellier needs to be added to the 40 man roster in order to bring him up. I don’t think that the Yankees want to do that because:
    1. Unlike JR Murphy, Mustellier does not need to be protected from the Rule-5 draft yet, and
    2. The Yankees have guys who DO NEED be protected from the Rule-5 draft this winter and don’t want to clog the 40 man roster with someone who doesn’t need to.

In yesterday’s pregame interview Girardi said that he wasn’t going to play call-ups in game situations because the team has too much work to do to try and make the playoffs. We may not agree with that strategy but if that’s the strategy the Yankees will employ then it makes sense to keep Mustellier off the 40 man roster this winter. It sucks for Mustellier because he’s no youngster (28 years old) and doesn’t have a lifetime to wait for his opportunity in MLB.

  87. BIG AL September 2nd, 2013 at 11:37 am

    I thought Mustellier was injured.

  88. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 2nd, 2013 at 11:41 am

And of course timing is everything. We get Quintana and Sale. Sux missed both.

    Have a great day everyone.

  89. MTU September 2nd, 2013 at 11:58 am

    Bad reasoning.

Mustelier can always be dropped off the 40 Man at a later date should the spot be needed.

Right now his bat would be a welcome addition.
