TIME/TV: 7:05 p.m., YES Network and MLB Network

WEATHER: Great night for baseball. Not too hot, but the sky is clear as can be.

UMPIRES: HP Rob Drake, 1B Joe West, 2B Sam Holbrook, 3B Andy Fletcher

HOME COOKIN’: The Yankees are 9-1 in their last 10 home games, and 15-3 in their last 18.

DON’T-CHA KNOW: With his solo homer in the first inning of yesterday’s 6-5 win over the White Sox, Robinson Cano passed Bill Dickey for 14th place on the Yankees’ all-time list with 203. He’s now tied with Roger Maris.

MO-MENTUM: Mariano Rivera has 41 saves in 2013, reaching the 40-save plateau for the ninth time and tying Trevor Hoffman for the most such seasons all-time.

(I’ll be updating what’s going on in the game here every so often, but I’ll be much more active on Twitter. Follow me @vzmercogliano to join in the conversation!)

UPDATE, 8:09 p.m.: Rough third inning for Nova, who allowed two runs on an RBI double from Ellsbury and an RBI groundout to Victorino. He labored through that inning and is already at 82 pitches. Red Sox lead 2-0.

UPDATE, 8:25 p.m.: The Yankees responded big-time in the bottom of the third. After Ichiro singled and stole second, Gardner bunted with two outs to put runners on the corners. Jeter walked to load the bases, and then the red-hot Cano banged the first pitch he saw off of the right field wall for a two-run double. We’re tied at 2-2.

UPDATE, 8:33 p.m.: The tie didn’t last long. Middlebrooks just crushed a two-out offering from Nova into the second deck in left field. 3-2 Red Sox, as Nova’s night is nearing an end.

UPDATE, 9:13 p.m.: Girardi took Nova out to begin the fifth, and Preston Claiborne was not sharp. Victorino homered to lead off the inning. He ended up loading the bases and allowing another run to cross on Napoli’s infield single, and was removed without recording an out. The third run of the inning scored on a fielder’s choice, making it 6-2 Boston.
