WEATHER: Walking around Boston this afternoon, the weather couldn’t have been much nicer. Might be a little cooler than we’re used to tonight, but it’s a really nice night for a game.

UMPIRES: HP Ron Kulpa, 1B Alfonso Marquez, 2B Ted Barrett, 3B Mike DiMuro

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS: The Yankees have an MLB-best 27-15 (.643) record in one-run games this season after going 22-25 (.468) in such games last year. They have had just three other seasons in franchise history in which they have played as many or more one-run games with as high a winning percentage (1963/36-17/.679; 1906/29-16/.644; and 1904/35-17/.673).

NEED A DAY: Tonight is the Yankees’ 17th game in 17 days since their last off day on August 29. They are 9-7 over the stretch and have an off day on Monday before going to Toronto.

UPDATE, 8:50 p.m.: Here’s Nova for a second inning that he desperately needs to be better than his first inning. Already a 3-1 Red Sox lead.

UPDATE, 8:54 p.m.: Much better that time around for Nova. A 1-2-3 second inning with a couple of strikeouts.

UPDATE, 9:30 p.m.: Looks like the throw hit Napoli in the hand, which I thought was interference, but apparently not. Or at least, it’s not ruled that way.

UPDATE, 9:36 p.m.: Bad play by the two guys on the field for their defense. The double steal gives the Red Sox another run and a 4-1 lead.

UPDATE, 9:52 p.m.: No details about Rodriguez coming out of the game, but it must be hamstring related.

UPDATE, 10:07 p.m.: Game could have basically fallen apart right there, but Warren just got three straight outs to strand the bases loaded in the fifth. Goes without saying that Nova did not look good today.

UPDATE, 10:13 p.m.: Tight right calf for Rodriguez. It’s the left hamstring that’s been bothering him.
