Yankees officially activate Hafner; move Sabathia to 60-day

The Yankees have activated DH Travis Hafner from the disabled list and moved starter CC Sabathia to the 60-day DL. Sabathia is lost for the season because of a hamstring strain. Hafner has missed most of the second half because of a lingering shoulder problem.

Lefty David Price starts for the Rays tonight, so it’s unlikely Hafner will be in the lineup immediately. Hafner could get some DH starts in the last four games while Alex Rodriguez either returns to the field (if his hamstring and calf injuries feel better) or moves to the bench (if the Yankees decide it’s better to just rest him).

Ultimately, it’s a pretty minor move at this point. Sabathia wasn’t doing any good on the active roster anyway.
