TIME/TV: 7:05 p.m., YES Network

WEATHER: Nice night to wrap things up here in the Bronx. Basically the same as the past three nights. Just very, very nice. Light jacket if you want one, but probably not necessary.

UMPIRES: HP Laz Diaz, 1B Mark Wegner, 2B Tim Timmons, 3B Mike Winters

AFTERTHOUGHT: Tonight’s game will mark the first home game the Yankees have played without being in the playoff picture since the team’s final home game in 1993.

NO. 42: Major League Baseball announced today that Mariano Rivera’s jersey has been the most sold through’s store since the All-Star break. Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano have also ranked in the Top 20.

ON THIS DATE: It was on September 26, 1961 that Roger Maris hit his 60th home run of the season, tying Babe Ruth’s single-season record.

UPDATE, 7:40 p.m.: Been so long since Granderson was a real base stealer, he forgot you’re allowed to keep going if the throws goes into the outfield.

UPDATE, 8:08 p.m.: Fourth-inning lead for the Rays after three straight reach against Nova.

UPDATE, 8:41 p.m.: Well, I’m not sure what I expected from a meaningless game, but this has felt pretty … meaningless. It’s still 1-0 in the sixth. The Yankees have one hit. And it really feels like the only thing anyone cares about is Rivera coming into the game.

UPDATE, 8:55 p.m.: Delmon Young just homered. It’s that kind of night.
