Major League Baseball has announced that Mariano Rivera will be presented with the Commissioner’s Historic Achievement Award before tonight’s second game of the World Series.
The presentation by commissioner Bud Selig come during a 7 p.m. ET press conference at Fenway Park. Afterward, Rivera will be recognized on the field as part of a pregame ceremony on FOX. Rivera’s wife and three sons will be there as well.
The Commissioner’s Historic Achievement Award was created to recognize achievements and contributions of historical significance, and it hasn’t been presented since 2011, when Ken Griffey Jr. was honored.
Tonight’s game starts at 8:07 p.m., and the FOX broadcast starts at 7:30 p.m.
