Sweet, they didn’t screw up 3 simple decisions… #baby steps

  2. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 2:06 pm

From Heyman on the hesitation to extend this offer to Granderson:

The Yankees discussed their interest in star free-agent outfielders Carlos Beltran, Shin-Soo Choo and Jacoby Ellsbury at their recent organizational meetings, and perhaps they fear clogging up their outfield and payroll. There is also a concern within the organization about Granderson’s high strikeout totals.

No Mason Williams in the Scottsdale lineup today. Ten game hitting streak has the day off…
    ___
Missed the Mason AB’s in the AFL Stars game. How’d he look?

Looks like Ashmore is shutting down the Thunder Thoughts blog. Without him and Norris around, Thunder coverage will regress to utter suckitude.

Pruf, yep. Z-man needs a shot, and I’ll bet he doesn’t strike out 29%+ like Salty did (Salty = 26+ when batting lefty) and I’d wager Salty’ll strike out even more with that gaping porch tempting him… even though when he connects, he’ll do damage. And as far as C goes, I can’t see the Yankees wanting Salty to follow in the footsteps of pitch framer extraordinaire RM… Still think we need to go back to working the count AB’s. One thing Alex did bring to the team when he returned in late summer…

YanksinVegas, can’t say I read the NY Beat writers, and I am not surprised by most of their continuing lack of baseball savvy…

No QO for Josh Johnson… Hmmm

YF that was a big deal for Z that he cut down his Ks at AAA and hit better there than in AA. Not saying he’ll be a star, but he has some abilities and he could take off. At worst, he can hit well left-handed and I despite the low OPS as a RHB, I’ve seen that righty power as well.

Yeah, no to Salty. He sucks.

Grandy’s K rates are a definitely a concern, but he has had those same K rates for 3 years… This year they were actually slightly down and he was in ST mode a lot of the time… and high K’s are unfortunately the way we roll these days.

Can’t do it just for him…..

  12. yankeefeminista November 4th, 2013 at 2:28 pm

No way we should burn that pick on Beltran.

  13. J. Alfred Prufrock November 4th, 2013 at 2:29 pm

If the Yankees sign Nathan or Balfour, as per MLBTR, then the Shipbuilder’s son and his crew are just listing out there with no one steering.

You have virtually no youth ready, holes everywhere, and you’re going to spend money on relievers… with guys like Pinder, Burawa and Kahnle in the system and throwing like 96, 97. And so much, I guess, for Betances getting any kind of chance to play chopsticks.

Sign back-end bullpen guys when your greater need is players that can actually deliver a lead to them… good thinking.

Maybe we can sign those guys and Hal can get his hotel service people, the bell boys and desk clerks and housekeeping folks to dress up in pinstripes and man the positions on the field.

And Josh Johnson was falling apart in Toronto last season. He looks shot, or at least, injured enough, often enough, to no longer to being able get anywhere near his former elite level.
    ////

Me neither, YF: I want that pick.

  14. blake November 4th, 2013 at 2:29 pm

Id take a flyer on Johnson….would have to be 1 year and pretty cheap though

  15. blake November 4th, 2013 at 2:30 pm

Id only Chase Beltran if the pick has already been lost to sign somebody else

  16. sammiejohnson November 4th, 2013 at 2:31 pm

“No way we should burn that pick on Beltran”

YF, I absolutely agree. Not for Beltran.

It was a nobrainer that the Cards were going to QO Beltran. Just making it official.

  17. J. Alfred Prufrock November 4th, 2013 at 2:32 pm

Francesa is so tipping his hand today.

He is so biased when it comes to the Jets. Dude, they have some football players on that line, did you see them stuff Brees yesterday??

Can’t even hide his bitterness to do a competent show.

  18. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 2:34 pm

Choo or a long term OF really is a must.

  19. yankeefeminista November 4th, 2013 at 2:35 pm

blake, so would I. He was a heckuva pitcher once. Too bad he can’t stay healthy…

What supplements do you take daily?

  21. 86w183 November 4th, 2013 at 2:37 pm

I agree, not for a 37-year-old. More willing to consider it for Choo and/or McCann.

“Nope, but you are firmly in the minority of those who do.”

What a sad statement that is, if it’s true. Haven’t taken any polls so don’t know everybody’s thinking.

On the other hand, when the economy is in the toilet, people don’t necessary focus on social and moral issues so much, so it wouldn’t surprise me to find out you’re correct, if you are.

    —–

I don’t think it’s necessarily sad. Maybe for some people it is but I just can’t get morally outraged because someone took something to get an edge playing a game. I don’t care if it’s A-Rod or David Ortiz.

I tend to save my moral outrage for real life issues that deserve it.

  24. 86w183 November 4th, 2013 at 2:39 pm

Josh Johnson will probably get $ 4-6 M guaranteed with big bonuses for starts 22, 25, 28 or something like that.

He is the ultimate risk/reward guy… Cy Young talent, but Sayonara a real possibility.

  25. blake November 4th, 2013 at 2:40 pm

I think you need to sign more than one guy to warrant losing that pick…..Id be ok with it if they signed McCaNn and Beltran or Choo.

This pick is the best chance they have had in years to get a true star talent than could move quickly.

This is supposed to be the best draft depth wise since the Harper draft by some reports and if the yanks don’t lose it it’s possible they could wind up picking 15th or 16th instead of 18th.

They just can’t give that chance away unless they are serious about putting a title contender on the field for 2014 and I see no way the can do that realistically and stay under the budget

  26. AAA November 4th, 2013 at 2:40 pm

He is so biased when it comes to the Jets. Dude, they have some football players on that line, did you see them stuff Brees yesterday??

    ===================================

Hard team to figure. They were a train wreck just 8 days ago. Dominant on both lines yesterday. Saints looked every bit the dome team that they are, especially the non-Graham receivers, but credit to the Jets. They pushed ‘em around pretty good.

  27. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 2:47 pm

    Blake,

I take 10,000 IU of Now brand vitamin D. They use olive oil instead of GMO soybean oil.

I take 1 capsule of 34 strain Garden of Life Ultimate Probiotics.

I take 2 tsp of Nordic Natural Cod liver oil TG form for higher omega-3 absorption. I get the kind with added vitamin D.

So basically I take in a high amount of good bacteria, omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins A, D, E and K through the cod liver oil, bacterial metabolites and D supplements.

Those 3 supplements, along with daily sardines in water pack in complete nutrition at a very small price. I work in a clinical environment at a long-term care facility and I guarantee my immune system will conquer any pathogen I encounter.

  31. J. Alfred Prufrock November 4th, 2013 at 2:50 pm

    AAA,

A hot QB can be like a hot pitcher, but some of these guys in the business just don’t see it that way. Yeah, they’re inexperienced, but in Cincy they found a QB in the zone that day. But he didn’t even acknowledge the potential of that line, which makes him a fraud as a “football guy” in my eyes.

The least he could say is, well, they’ve got some athletes, and they rattled Brees good (Harris and Davis were really sprung lose by Wilkerson and Co.); they need to mature enough so that they do it weekly. But he could not even bring himself to say this.

  32. blake November 4th, 2013 at 2:55 pm

    That’s a lot of Vitamin D .

    I take 2000 IU of D3 and a one a day men’s ! Plus eat a lot of BBQ.

I’ve thought about taking more vitamin d though especially in the winter here

  33. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 2:59 pm

I tested on the low end even after supplementing 10,000 IU in the middle of summer. D toxicity is exceedingly rare. Your intake is equivalent to 2 minutes of sunshine according to this researcher at BU Dr. Holick.

No more Ashmore or Norris. Good thing Trenton’s close by, but I’ll miss Mike’s video footage and the fact that he’ll ask the players and manager/coaches anything you ask him to. Solid, solid guy.

  35. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 3:02 pm

You can check Dr. Holick’s creds

    http://www.bumc.bu.edu/endo/faculty/holick/

  36. blake November 4th, 2013 at 3:02 pm

    Bret,
I know the recommended daily amount is 8000 IU….but I have no idea how much I eat in my diet and how much I get from being outside…..I’m outside a good deal even in the winter. I may take more anyway though because I’m sure I’m not getting enough

  37. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 3:04 pm

    It’s 800 IU

  38. blake November 4th, 2013 at 3:06 pm

Well the recommend amount by one of those nutritional papers I read was 8,000 ….I guess the standard is 800

  39. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 3:08 pm

Dietary vitamin D is typically in the 100′s not the 1000′s due to the quality of the D being further along its pathway and closer to its active form. Dietary vitamin D from fish, liver, eggs is the storage form right before activation in the kidneys.

  40. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 3:15 pm

Dr. Weston Price sometimes observed vitamin D and other fat-soluble vitamin levels in indigenous peoples at 20X western societies.

He was a dentist and is considered a huge part of the nutrition movement. He observed zero incidence of chronic diseases in tribes including no can-sir, no cardiovascular disease, no alzheimer’s, no parkinsons, and no autoimmune diseases such as type 1, no autism. And most importantly, he observed zero vitamin D toxicity at these levels.

    http://www.westonaprice.org/nu.....ston-price

D toxicity is a scare manufactured by powerful companies who can’t patent the sun and whose drugs would lose market share if we educated the public on the therapeutic potential of vitamin D

  41. blake November 4th, 2013 at 3:21 pm

Probably because they are outside like all day

Also Blake they sought fatty sources of food and devised sophisticated ways to hunt and obtain animal meats. It’s all documented in his book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. The guy was a genius and the market for holistic dentists is vast in the Asheville area. I only ask for a 10% cut.

    I’ve heard of that guy….

  44. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 3:28 pm

    Blake,

I have a question about halitosis. Every vegan I know has moth ball breath. Seriously, they all smell like a poorly managed compost heap. Why is that? What is going on with the pH in their mouths? Too alkaline? Acidic response to alkalinity? Every vegan. I will not date one.

  45. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 3:31 pm

If you could please record your response on a youtube clip and I guarantee you it will go viral. Vegans are likely dying to know the answer but feel too ashamed to ask. Some probably don’t suspect its their diet. They single-handedly keep Tic Tac stock out of Chapter 11.

  46. blake November 4th, 2013 at 3:33 pm

    Bret,
A lot of halitosis actually starts in the stomach not the mouth. I haver read any specific studies on Vegans in particular but my guess is perhaps there is some pH imbalance going on as you suggest which could allow h pylori or some other bugs to grow. Obviously there are sources from the mouth as well …..maybe they are too earthly for toothpaste !

  47. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 3:36 pm

No they have good dental hygiene. I think you’re right about the source being much deeper down. No way the mouth alone can produce that volume of stinky air. It can fill up a car. You almost hope they don’t talk but they always do.

  48. blake November 4th, 2013 at 3:37 pm

It’s probably something somebody should do a study on…..and there may be one out there I just haven’t seen it.

Health nuts can often smell sweet which is a sign their body has gone Ketonic…..which happens mostly with low carb diet as the body has no carbs to burn so it burns fat and protein but I wouldn’t think that would be an issue with vegans as they eat carbs

  49. Bret The Hitman November 4th, 2013 at 3:40 pm

I’m definitely ketogenic in my diet and I’ve always been complimented by girls after kisses. When I was a kid my pillow smelled like syrup. My sister made fun of me for that. I’ve always had extraordinary carbohydrate metabolism, which shifts me into ketosis after the carbs burn up. Since I eat low carb diet now in adulthood, I take in more dietary fats so my body has ample fuel to burn. I don’t want to burn any more fat stores. I’m at about 6%.
