This one’s pretty random.
This afternoon I got an email from one of our columnists at The Journal News. Turns out, he was in Peekskill this weekend and happened to catch Bernie Williams sitting in with Gil Parris. If you don’t know Parris, he’s a jazz guitarist who’s pretty well-known in certain musical circles. I know him more by name than by music, and Bernie has played with him before. Our columnist, Dave Wilson, grabbed some video, and because I love live music and things are otherwise fairly quiet today, I thought I’d post it here. Seeing guys like this who can really, really play never gets old for me. And if there’s a Yankees connection, well then, that’s a great excuse for a blog post!
Here’s an explanation of the situation from Dave:
Former Yankees centerfielder Bernie Williams joined the Gil Parris Band Saturday night, Nov. 23, at 12 Grapes in Peekskill, as they traded licks on hard-driving blues numbers. Williams and Parris, an Ardsley High grad, will next appear on Nov. 30 at 8 pm at Brian’s Backyard BBQ, 1665 Route 221, Middletown. Tickets are $25. Williams is also headlining the Westchester All Stars Christmas for Wounded Veterans, Dec. 6, at the Tarrytown Music Hall. Tickets are $25 to $50 and you can get them at this link.
