On the day he was likely to be non-tendered, Chris Stewart has instead been traded.
The Yankees announced this morning that they have traded Stewart to the Pirates for a player to be named later. A backup in 2012, Stewart spent this season as the Yankees regular catcher. He hit better than expected early in the season, but he faded significantly and finished with a .211 average and four home runs through 109 games. He’s arbitration eligible, and the Yankees were likely to non-tender him in the wake of signing Brian McCann.
