Yankees make it official with Brendan Ryan

Brendan RyanHere’s the official press release. We’ve known about this signing for a few weeks now, and we found out the contract details last week.

The New York Yankees today announced they have signed infielder Brendan Ryan to a two-year contract extending through the 2015 season with a mutual option for 2016.

Ryan, 31, batted .220 (13-for-59) with one home run in 17 games with the Yankees in 2013, starting each of the club’s final 17 games of the season at shortstop after being acquired from Seattle on September 10 in exchange for a player to be named later. In 87 games with the Mariners, he hit .192 (50-for-260) with 23 runs, 10 doubles, three home runs and 21RBI.

Over parts of seven Major League seasons with the Cardinals (2007-10), Mariners (2011-13) and Yankees (2013), he has batted .237 (562-for-2,368) with 288 runs, 106 doubles, 19 home runs and 187RBI in 783 games.

A native of Los Angeles, Calif., Ryan was originally selected by St. Louis in the seventh round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft.
