    No Nunie jokes please!

  2. donnie23 February 26th, 2014 at 8:42 am

Is that the #s 1,3,&4 hitters on opening day?

  3. braeburn February 26th, 2014 at 8:45 am

to me this spring training and this season is all about tanaka. if he’s a star, the yankees have their building block to move into the future with.

if tanaka somehow struggles this year or is a disappointment the yankees would be in serious trouble not only for this year but in future years.

that said, i’m curious about players like teixeira and sabathia, but nothing they do in spring training will answer what they’ll do in the regular season. it’s going to take success in the regular season for me to get excited about them.

i’m ready for the real games to begin.

one unimportant thing i do wonder about is how John Ryan Murphy is going to sign autographs. is he really going to take the time to write the long version ?

he signed “JR Murphy” last season on the kid’s program i took to a game last year.

    it looked like this :

my guess is if murphy becomes a fan favorite he’s going with the short version :)

    mac,
thanks I”ll try to give a listen!

    Mac,
I think he told all the teams he’d play other positions…..but why would he play 2B for the Mets when they have no SS?

  5. blake February 26th, 2014 at 8:58 am

Nunez can play in ST games….that’s ok

  6. Bronxball February 26th, 2014 at 8:59 am

Why is nunie at ss They should let nunie play third everyday if there not getting a third baseman.. he’ll hit 30 double 8 triples 35 steals 10 homers bat 270ish.. lose 15 helmets

  7. Bronxball February 26th, 2014 at 9:00 am

yes he’ll make errors but not as many as people think … let him play at one spot

  8. blake February 26th, 2014 at 9:02 am

because he’s not going to be on the team most likely…..

    Good morning.

Seems like Mr. Diaz is having trouble getting the kind of dollars he was looking for.

Otherwise I think he would have signed by now.

    ;)

    Morning all —-

Unless he’s traded Nunez should make the team. He and Ryan will be the infield depth behind Tex, roberts, Jeter and Johnson. He’s certainly better than Dean Anna.

  11. Benny Blanco February 26th, 2014 at 9:20 am

Nunie has been scratched today because of flu like symptoms. FYI

I’d say it’s no better tha 50/50 that Roberts is better than Nunez at this point.

If Nuney gets most of his work at SS this spring training then it is certain he is ticketed for AAA with Jeter and Ryan ahead of him (unless either of them get hurt)… Nuney’s only chance to be on the big league club is in a time share at 3B.

  14. 86w183 February 26th, 2014 at 9:30 am

    Ys Guy —

No argument there. Brian Roberts of ’09 was terrific. Brian Roberts of ’14 is anyone’s guess.

At least we know he’s a well-rested 36 having averaged 48 games for the past four seasons.

Cashman flat out called the 2012 Orioles a fluke. That’s pretty funny.

    it was ….

John Ryan getting back to back days at DH.

  19. Cashmoney February 26th, 2014 at 9:46 am

Nunez played 3b well in late Sept. I get ppl questioning his footwork and setup as SS, but I really think Yanks will give him a small window to see if he can become a part of rotation in 2b and 3b. that’s that, let the trashing begin.

    ————

Does he consider the 2013 a fluke as well (since they finished ahead of us in the standings and all…).

  21. austinmac February 26th, 2014 at 9:46 am

I’m not quite sure why Nunez was playing short anyway. That will be played by Jeter or Ryan, I presume. It seems he should practice the positions he could conceivably play.

  22. austinmac February 26th, 2014 at 9:48 am

    Shame,

I think Cashman acknowledged the Yankees record last year was flukish.

What can we conclude, if anything, from Murphy’s back to back DH days? That they like his bat? That he is young and they can make him travel today?

  23. DONNYBROOK February 26th, 2014 at 9:50 am

Nice piece by King lll over at The Post regarding the Yanks dealing depth at C, (Sanchez, Cervelli, etc) for one of (Beckman, Keppinger, even Rickie Weeks.) I would doubt the Weeks part of the story, unless the Brewers were eating a good chunk of the contract. Drew being available would make Weeks seem less plausible.

  24. DONNYBROOK February 26th, 2014 at 9:51 am

Cashman also said the Yanks were Not as good as their record last season. Cashman says a Lot of things.

  25. Cashmoney February 26th, 2014 at 9:52 am

Mac, not going make a big deal of it on 2/26 , but your logic is sound. But lately the Yanks are hardly known for it’s organizational ability to the get best out of their internal resources.

  26. DONNYBROOK February 26th, 2014 at 9:56 am

You do get a lot of “showcasing” in ST. Nunez could be playing SS with known scouts in the house.

  27. Cashmoney February 26th, 2014 at 9:56 am

If Flores learn to drive the ball a little bit more, he will be MLB bound. I am starting worry about Austin’s wrist as a chronic issue.

  28. austinmac February 26th, 2014 at 10:00 am

I am guessing Blake would approve of Klapisch’s article on the infield. He suggests they should go for Drew. Go figure.

  29. pkyankfan69 February 26th, 2014 at 10:01 am

Awesome MTU… I loved that place.

I was only there for a day, I was in the main canyon or whatever part is main tourist attraction… I liked Zion much more than the Grand Canyon… Not as massive as the GC but much more intimate, felt like you could get just steps away form everything at Zion.

  30. austinmac February 26th, 2014 at 10:04 am

Flores is patient and can hit, but the rap on him is lack of power for a corner guy. Yes, if he can develop some, he has possibilities.

Austin’s wrist is a concern. Many months off, more pain and a few days rest after. It seems unlikely that will be a solution, but that’s about all they can do, I suppose. I do recall surgery on Gardner’s wrist although there was no definable injury on an MRI.

  31. austinmac February 26th, 2014 at 10:06 am

    MTU,

I got a travel brochure from National Geographic for off road hiking or biking. They listed Zion and the surrounding area as a hotspot. They did caution about some strange hiker in a Yankee cap. Be on the lookout for him.

  32. Cashmoney February 26th, 2014 at 10:07 am

new one guys, Nunez not at SS!

  33. AAA February 26th, 2014 at 10:26 am

What can we conclude, if anything, from Murphy’s back to back DH days? That they like his bat? That he is young and they can make him travel today?

    =====================================

It’s a lower end of the order, catcher’s bat (read: probably doesn’t play well at another position), but of the so-called catching surplus, he is far and away the one who stands the best chance of being a productive everyday catcher in the bigs.

  34. 86w183 February 26th, 2014 at 10:29 am
