“a right handed hitter, corner outfielders ,and middle pitching is the seattle problem. cano will have people hitting behind him as well or better than what he had last year in new york.”

Then why is Cano so worried that he is complaining to the national media?

  2. Against All Odds March 9th, 2014 at 9:44 am

I hope only bad things happen to him

    —————-

Huh?? Bad things such as what

  3. Baby Ruth March 9th, 2014 at 9:49 am

The Seattle lineup stinks. Morrison and Hart can’t stay on the field and they are just middle of the pack guys anyway.

Cano is in baseball purgatory with the M’s but hey he can count his $$’s as the losses mount.

Does he really think that the M’s are going to climb over the Angels, Rangers and A’s to be contenders in the A.L West ? ? ?

    Please …………

  4. Baby Ruth March 9th, 2014 at 9:52 am

Hope Phelps ‘on’ today I for one want him to stick around.

    I like his makeup

    Go Yankees ! !

  5. austinmac March 9th, 2014 at 9:54 am

If I wanted to read about the Mariners, wouldn’t I go to their blog? Cano is gone. Someone complained Madden wrote about him, yet a significant percentage of the discussion here is on that subject.

Many here are like a person who was dumped by their significant other. Move on for your mental health.

There are like 20 new guys in Yankees camp, a medical center full of recovering injuries, a dozen “feel good” stories and Madden (and Klapisch) are still weaving Cano and Alex into stories even though one no longer plays in NY and the other hasn’t been seen or heard from in months.

    ————–

It gives the fans that don’t like Cano more things to bash him about. I went to the YES board a couple of days ago and there was a topic about his root canal. You had fans questioning his desire to play the game because he missed a few days. I kid you not. The man has played the 2nd most games in all of baseball over the past few yrs

But no folks it’s all about him not running hard to first no other reason than that..yea right.

  7. austinmac March 9th, 2014 at 10:02 am

Maybe people are tired of all the poor us, we lost Cano dialogue. We still have many following every at bat of Montero. I don’t get it. To me, I root for the uniform.

As a Yankee fan, I hope our replacements do a great job in comparison to those who left. I am also over Jay Buhner.

  8. Tar March 9th, 2014 at 10:14 am

“I don’t get it. To me, I root for the uniform.”

    Mac

One can “root for the uniform” and still follow other players right? They are not mutually exclusive concepts. I root for the uniform and still like to follow others especially some who were here before.

I do have a question though on that subject….. when one roots for the uniform does that have to include the front office? Because to many on here (Not you) if one disagrees with the FO its like you are a bad fan. How dare you criticize the front office so to speak. Personally, I separate “uniform” from “suits”. But I digress :D

  9. Yanksfanmc76 March 9th, 2014 at 10:19 am

    Is today’s game being broadcast?

  10. MTU March 9th, 2014 at 10:21 am

    Yes. It’s on YES.

  11. austinmac March 9th, 2014 at 10:31 am

    Tar,

Anyone can, of course, root how they wish. It is the bashing and teeth gnashing I get tired of. He is gone and nothing anyone says changes that. It is akin to relieving oneself I to a hurricane.

No one has criticized Hal and company more than me for the last two years. They have hurt the short and long term in many ways.

I have asked many times if people would have given Cano 10 years and $235M. Would you? If so, we disagree, but I respect your view. If you wouldn’t, I don’t see the criticism for his leaving. The lack of respect concept is, to me, unimportant. Either be willing to pay what is required, or let him go.

  12. raymagnetic March 9th, 2014 at 10:34 am

“How dare you criticize the front office so to speak.”

This logic can be applied the other way around as well. If you don’t criticize the front office then it’s “how dare you sheep just blindly follow what the front office does”.

  13. Hearn March 9th, 2014 at 10:39 am

Screw Cano. Not going to waste any more breath on his greedy “me first” attitude.

    Let’s Go Yankees!

  14. Revenge of Stoneburner March 9th, 2014 at 10:48 am

The public’s perception of Carlos Beltran as a Met — injury-prone, bad in the clutch — doesn’t reflect reality, writes the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.

  15. Revenge of Stoneburner March 9th, 2014 at 10:48 am

Shucks if it happens to the O’s

Bud Norris “would seem like a logical choice” among players that could be dealt if the Orioles add another starter, such as Ervin Santana, speculates Peter Schmuck of The Baltimore Sun. Norris currently projects as the club’s fifth starter. Schmuck writes that there appears to be no major obstacles to signing Santana, outside of convincing him to choose the O’s over the Blue Jays.

Originally my view on giving him 10 years was no. But now I think they should have. It was after reading mostly Blake and Wave….who made some very convincing arguments on why it makes sense for them to have gone 10. Added to their arguments is the fact that I am not getting any younger. I really don’t care how Hal’s bottom line might look in 2024. The facts of life are we are not getting any younger. Who knows if we will be around 10 years from now. I think Cano for the next 5 or 6 years makes us a sure fire contender. Right now we have a good staff, BUT a lot of things have to go our way. Big difference than if Cano was in the line-up.

I also don’t think they seriously wanted him back. It all very much reminds me of the Andy debacle when he went to Houston. Oh yeah, they gave us fans something to grab hold of (we made them offers) but we both know when the Yankees want someone they get him. See CC, Tex and even more recently Tanaka.

They did make Cano an offer…however it was an offer they knew he would turn down. And they refused to budge. Would he have gone 8 /200…. we will never know. Had they done that, and Cash didn’t make his stupid “all about the money” remark there would be a lot less talk about disrespect.

I actually would have. But it is in the past. What I don’t get is that Cano would have taken less years and overall money to compromise at 8/200. That’s pure speculation and not evidence.

  26. mick March 9th, 2014 at 11:01 am

Cano asked for another 10m while he had pen in hand…and got it.
Leave the Yanks out of the discussion about disrespect.

Yes, it is a powerful admission. B/c we can speculate the other – Cano would not have accepted 8/200, would not have budged for 10 year, Cano was in it for the money and loves money – it is a powerful door you opened and undermines a lot – b/c it is NOT worth hand wringing if it is based totally on speculation. Heck, b/c of speculation, I can find arguments that give the Yankees world championships in several prior seasons. Dangerous door that has been opened if that is “what we do here.”

  36. Hankflorida March 9th, 2014 at 11:28 am

Tar, I get your point and understand about giving Cano the extra money, and Cano with Tanaka, Beltran and McCaan would have been a better team. It is for this reason That I have brought up the loss of Joe Gordon where the Yankees got Allie Reynolds and replaced his 30 home runs with Yogi. This year they a got a pitcher and a catcher, Tanaka and McCaan who may play the same role, but in order to duplicate the past when Gordon left, they need some pop from the outfield. We will not know until we see what Ellsbury gives us, and as history shows us, the Yankees have never had two players like Mickey Rivers playing together in the outfield on a championship team.

blake, thank you. Sanity restored to the blog. Danger averted. ;)

Should be a fun game. I think we are facing Archer to start. Interesting. I read Odorrizi is in the mix for Rays fifth starter and Cobb is teaching him his splitter. Odorrizi said the grip Cobb uses feels comfortable after Odorrizi had been trying a ton of different grips to throw a change that hadn’t felt right. Maybe Tanaka can teach everyone (Pineda!) how to throw a split. LOL. But wasn’t Felix showing Pineda his version of the change? (if I recall correctly). Someone mentioned that Pineda threw a few changeups. Wish we could see them. May our young pitchers thrive.

Watched the game on archive, and yeah Nova just didn’t have command of the fastball, agree Manny was just knocking off rust, and I have to say I loved the Zoological AB in the 6th. Please let that kid play.

  39. blake March 9th, 2014 at 11:35 am

In a vacuum 10 years for Cano doesn’t make sense……but when you’re willing to offer 7 for Ellsbury you should be willing to go 10 for Cano

  40. Revenge of Stoneburner March 9th, 2014 at 11:39 am

Cano on the Yanks for 10 years makes sense

Cano on the Mariners for 10 years I have may doubts they will surround him with enough talent during the course of the contract to make deep playoff runs

  41. blake March 9th, 2014 at 11:39 am

Why is this fact so hard to comprehend?

“We will not know until we see what Ellsbury gives us, and as history shows us, the Yankees have never had two players like Mickey Rivers playing together in the outfield on a championship team.”

Hank, this is the team we have, so you might as well put on a smile, a sense of adventure, and a sense of positivity, and decide to enjoy the season.

In addition, history also showed that no team in the world series had come back down three games to win the next four – until 2004.

Baseball is a continually evolving sport, both in terms of the mix of players on the field, the strength conditioning available to them, and the managing of games.

I wouldn’t let history serve as a boogeyman here.
