Can someone make a YouTube compilation of tanakas pitches today for me so I don’t have to watch that line up on a Saturday afternoon ?

  2. mick March 22nd, 2014 at 8:47 am

With the Z-Men hitting back to back how could we go wrong.

    When Spring Training Matters

    http://fivethirtyeight.com/fea…..g-matters/”

This was interesting I guess, but it’s not a particularly strong conclusion. The extreme spring training outliers may carry their numbers into the season.

  4. austinmac March 22nd, 2014 at 8:59 am

    YT,

Yes, I would like Putz. Plus, I’d like it see what Didi could bring. Cashman says they’re still looking, but I’m unconvinced anyone is looking back.

  5. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:03 am

Boy, spring just isn’t happening. A lot of fields must be a mess. Soccer starts this weekend here by the lake, and its a boring enough game to begin with let alone sit outside in that slop. We don’t allow tail gating so there’s nothing to buffer your venture, although getting sick in a parking lot hardly has a rosy appeal. The Twins should have kept their garbage bag dome.

  6. Giuseppe Franco March 22nd, 2014 at 9:09 am

Yeah, the brutal winter is probably going to kill my spring baseball league.

We usually start playing games about the same time the pros do (the first week of April) but I can’t see how the field will be in playing condition in a couple of weeks.

Once the weather actually warms up enough to melt all the snow and thaw the ground the field is gonna be a swamp.

  7. austinmac March 22nd, 2014 at 9:10 am

Ryan’s “pinched nerve” means a herniated or bulging disc. There is no assurance that will not be a recurring issue. Blake would have a suggestion, and I would agree.

  8. Yankee Trader March 22nd, 2014 at 9:12 am

    Mac

Good morning. Rehashing about Gregorius. I believe the Yankees should hold onto Cervelli and especially Phelps. The Yankees will probably need multiple inning relievers in the early weeks, when the weather isn’t so “hot.” Also don’t think Murphy or Romine are ready for prime time Offensively.

  9. Mottsx March 22nd, 2014 at 9:13 am

Hanley tweaked his hamstring running to first not sure if it was serious wouldn’t be suprised if the dodgers signed drew since they have no budget

  10. Yankee Trader March 22nd, 2014 at 9:17 am

Ryan will probably get an epidural or a selective nerve root injection. If that fails, he’ll get another, up to three, spaced weeks apart. Then, if all else fails, shades of Youkilis, is a possibility.

So might Boras and Cashman, be cooking up a one year deal for Drew, to be signed after the opening game, so that Drew cannot be given the QO, since rules dictate in order to do so, you must be with the team a full season?

  11. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:18 am

austin, our boy Goins hasn’t hit much and is being somewhat put down in the media to the extent certain irate individuals are all over Alex A.for haing left the position so apparently open. I’m still happy about the guy and looking forward to his gloved wizzardry out there. The rest of the lineup can rake when firing on all cylinders and healthy. The problem is health, not much off the bench support to turn to.

  12. Ys Guy March 22nd, 2014 at 9:20 am

    OPENING DAY! YAY!

  13. austinmac March 22nd, 2014 at 9:21 am

    Jmills,

He is a solid kid and player from all I know. They need to let him play and see what they have. Just like the Yankees would do–well, never mind.

  14. dan l March 22nd, 2014 at 9:23 am

Yankee Trader…why would the Yankees even want Drew? I can’t figure out what he brings that is so valuable if he’s not playing SS. He will not be as good as Roberts at second or Kelly at third defensively an offensively he can’t hit lefties.

  15. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:23 am

I would love to see Happ defie historical projections, I’m just not a monkey man believer. Here I am hoping McGowan’s arm holds together. Still, all in all, I don’t really care that Jimenez or Santana aren’t here. I have the suspicion that Santana was scared about the dome and the A.L. East. Not the sort of guy you want to try and Jimmy Key turn towards.

  16. austinmac March 22nd, 2014 at 9:24 am

    YT,

I think you are right on the treatment protocol. Injections relieve discomfort, hopefully, but they don’t address the problem. Some discs cease being a problem–our friend Trisha for example– and some don’t. As always, time will tell.

  17. Ys Guy March 22nd, 2014 at 9:25 am

i think santana would gladly have signed with toronto or baltimore, but when atlanta came up, that move was a no-brainer.

  18. Tar March 22nd, 2014 at 9:25 am

The when and how long part of the Ryan signing was “IMO” kind of dumb on Cashmans part. All glove and no bat infielders are not exactly that rare of a commodity. I believe locking up that roster spot especially so early has kept them from pursuing better options…..which yes maybe includes Drew.

  19. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:25 am

austin, I concur, let the kid play. No interest in Kelly Johnson. Aaron Hill, I do miss you.

  20. austinmac March 22nd, 2014 at 9:28 am

    Tar,

I agree. It always seemed odd that we signed such a player early on. These are the guys that usually are signed late when the roster is close to set. He can’t hit enough to play regularly and I don’t see the Yankees pulling Jeter for defense late in games. What is his purpose?

  21. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:28 am

Tar, they’re going to have a hard time playing basketball out on those wet fields. How many players do they have out on the scene at once again? All kidding aside, my Raptors have had spunk, eh?

  22. Yankee Trader March 22nd, 2014 at 9:29 am

    Jmills
This might make you feel better, from FanGraphs 2/26/14

We’ll begin with the ten most-improved teams:

    Astros, +18 WAR
    Phillies, +12
    Mariners, +11
    Marlins, +8
    Yankees, +8
    Blue Jays, +8
    Padres, +8
    White Sox, +6
    Twins, +5
    Brewers, +4

    http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs.....-for-2014/

Now to turn things around and look at the other end of the spreadsheet:

    Red Sox, -16 WAR
    Tigers, -14
    Rays, -8
    Braves, -8
    Athletics, -8
    Reds, -7
    Rangers, -7
    Royals, -6
    Orioles, -6
    Pirates, -5

This might be different now since Cruz and Jimenez were added by the O’s

  23. Yankee Trader March 22nd, 2014 at 9:33 am

    Dan

If Drew were a righty, the Yankees probably would have already signed him, but you are right, Drew will be playing SS for a team that needs a SS.

  24. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:33 am

Wow, I improved by only adding a catcher who is questionable for full time duty….must be addition by subtraction since Arencibia won’t be doing atrocious things.

  25. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:35 am

austin, you have Arencibia down there in the Lone Star state, there’s no way he was going to settle for a backup’s role here, he had to go.

  26. Tar March 22nd, 2014 at 9:37 am

    Hi JMills

I am all about March Madness right now. Some incredible match-ups today. I am not that into the pro game until it gets to the play-offs. So I had no idea your Raptors were doing so good ( relatively speaking) until you mentioned it. Because of you….. I have become very pro Toronto ( and Rush :D ) whenever my teams are not involved.

    Mac

From the moment they signed Ryan I was asking myself why the rush? And why 2 years? I still don’t get it.

  27. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:38 am

Ys, he would have had to sign with the Jays or Orioles, I just don’t know about the happiness factor. How’s the Baltimore rotation looking? They used to be such a pitching noted franchise.

  28. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:43 am

Tar, Rush smartly welcomes one more fan, you could buy a leather tour jacket :D

The Raptor talk centres largely around whether to sign Kyle Laurie. He’s been a revelation but the nervous factor is there due to the contract year thing. I don’t care,…not my money. Our soccer team threw 100 mill at a couple of developed players, so why not?

  29. Yankee Trader March 22nd, 2014 at 9:47 am

    Tar

Good morning. I’m in a pool with 80 entries, where picking underdogs nets you more points, where a 12 over a 5, for instance, gets you the difference plus one in the first round 7+1, and this goes on throughout the tournament, as points for a win start to double and the underdog wins still get you a difference in points based on the seed.

And Duke has killed me for a few rounds. Had I known that Coach K thought he had a weak team, which he admitted to in the press conference after they were outplayed and out coached by Mercer, I wouldn’t have put my faith in them to at least be playing Louisville, who also looked bad.

  30. blake March 22nd, 2014 at 9:49 am

“Yankee Trader…why would the Yankees even want Drew? I can’t figure out what he brings that is so valuable if he’s not playing SS. He will not be as good as Roberts at second or Kelly at third defensively an offensively he can’t hit lefties.”

You don’t think Drew would be as good as Kelly at 3B defensively? He would be much better……Johnson is a below average defender at 2B and has never even played 3B either……and he hits RHP very well and can play SS.

At the moment the Yankees don’t have a single player healthy that they can be sure can play big league average SS…..given that Jeter is 40 and comin off a serious injury that’s kinda scary

  31. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:50 am

Tim Iwikkie ( no idea how to spell it ) was hired to oversee the conglomerate that is the Maple Leafs, Raptors and Toronto FC combined. Unfortunatley because there’s a hard cap in hockey, we can’t just go around buying everything in site :( I hate supporting bad locations in the states that should be playing in Hamilton and Quebec City.

  32. blake March 22nd, 2014 at 9:50 am

I’m hoping the Yankees sign Drew to a 1/14 deal on April 1 and then give him a week at AAA to play 3B before calling him up to play 3rd and hit 7th in the lineup. That’s what they should do

  33. Yankee Trader March 22nd, 2014 at 9:51 am

    Tar

And I know very little about NCAA basketball, but I do the homework on Monday after the selection process. Your Tar hills gave me my first of two wins over the years this pool has been in place, when they beat Illinois.

UNC will have a tough time in that division, getting by Iowa State, then either uConn or Villanova.

  34. blake March 22nd, 2014 at 9:52 am

We have seen this spring that the Yankee pitchers are ground balls guys…..CC is now more than ever….Nova has to get ground balls to be successful….Kuroda has to get ground balls to be successful…..so does Tanaka……they need good infield defense for this staff to be as good as it can be. This is gonna be a horse race for a playoff spot this year……they can be giving away 2-3 outs a game because of the infield D

  35. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:53 am

Reyes would be a nice option for you guys, but no matter what the possible disaster here, our two teams just don’t trade like 30 + years ago.

  36. blake March 22nd, 2014 at 9:53 am

Basically the heels will go as far as Paige can take them…..he’s gonna have to score and take over games for them to win

  37. Yankee Trader March 22nd, 2014 at 9:55 am

    Blake

I actually didn’t say that about Drew. That was directed to me, when I commented, that I wouldn’t be surprised if Boras and Cashman had a deal in place to add him after game one, for a year , so that he couldn’t be burdened by the QO offer.

If he was a righty, I think the Yankees might have signed him a while ago.

  38. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:56 am

I would like to sign Drew to play a floating rotation roll, but he probably wants a designated position; mind you, he’s not doing anything right now, and that Ferrari choice is temporarily on hold.

  39. raymagnetic March 22nd, 2014 at 9:57 am

How many outs were given away when CC pitched yesterday?

I call BS on the 2 or 3 outs per game theory.

  40. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 9:58 am

Right now its Itzuris off the bench…not very intriguing.

  41. blake March 22nd, 2014 at 9:58 am

    Trader,
I know…..sorry that’s just how it did when I copied it. I agree if he were RHd he would be a better fit…..but he’s still a good fit as is for their needs on a 1 year deal.

I think he will sign with Detroit though despite what the tigers have been saying…..it just makes too much sense for both sides. He can play SS there so I’m sure he prefers that

  42. blake March 22nd, 2014 at 9:59 am

Detroit will lose Iglesias for the season and actually field a better team with Drew at SS

  43. Ys Guy March 22nd, 2014 at 9:59 am

They did the same thing with ichiro last offseason, locking up a player on a two year deal who should really have been put on the back burner and then signed to a one year deal nearer training camp. And they are paying for that now, as is Ichiro, who wants a shot at 3K but doesn’t want to be released.

Badly played all the way around.

  44. RadioKev March 22nd, 2014 at 10:00 am

Drew’s asking price is still way too high. No invective for a team to offer him a QO contract and lose a pick at this point. Boras and Drew are delusional.

  45. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 10:01 am

Maybe players shouldn’t be allowed to buy Ferraris. Bentito Santiago was brought on board and he promptly crashed his car in spring, writing off any hopes of 30 homers like he’d just had with the Cardinels.

  46. blake March 22nd, 2014 at 10:01 am

2 . Roberts made an error and so did Johnson. And there was at least 1 ball I saw Jeter not get to that Drew probAbaly would have. It didn’t cost them…..but it could have

  47. Ys Guy March 22nd, 2014 at 10:02 am

Why do you assume Detroit is about to sign Drew when they deny it. Heyman’s column, sugesting that they SHOULD sign him (and basically laying out the terms for such a signing) is the only thing i see in reference to the Tigers signing him. The dodgers need IF help, too, their rookie 2B got sent down and they’re starting with dee gordon at 2b, but they’re also apparently not interested.

I think Drew is still totally available to the Yankees, Mets or anyone else, but there are still no takers.

No such thing as a bad 1 year deal….

  49. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 10:03 am

Drew could play SS here at the first sighting of a Reyes blowout.

  50. RadioKev March 22nd, 2014 at 10:04 am

Why overpay for an injury prone player that benefited from home splits last season and lose a pick?

  51. blake March 22nd, 2014 at 10:04 am

“Why do you assume Detroit is about to sign Drew when they deny it. ”

Because it just makes too much sense for them…..if they don’t then they are really overvaluing a 2nd roid draft pick

  52. Yankee Trader March 22nd, 2014 at 10:06 am

    Kev

Boras has usually been right more times than wrong. Of course either Drew or thru Boras’ advice, someone misjudged when he turned down the QO from the Red Sox.

Have to go and run some errands.

Have a great day everyone. Is it finally spring, or is some places only a figment of your imagination?

    Until Later

    Good luck Tar.

  53. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 10:07 am

Boras and Beeston hate each other’s guts, but that shouldn’t stand in the way of pragmatics if need be. Rogers has no financial restrictions and that fact does irk souls here.

  54. Mottsx March 22nd, 2014 at 10:08 am

1/14 is blatant for Drew. He’s never made over $9.5m why should he get a $5m raise ? If anything he should take a paycut since it’s do late. 1/8 take it or go play for the LI Ducks.

  55. Ys Guy March 22nd, 2014 at 10:10 am

    over there =====>

  56. jmills March 22nd, 2014 at 10:11 am

The Jays benefit from their upside down season of last year and have their first round picks protected regardless of signings. I would prefer they sign Drew knowing they can just write the player off if need be.

  57. raymagnetic March 22nd, 2014 at 10:25 am

    Blake,

I’m calling BS. Unless you can assure me that Drew will make every play and never make an error.

No way they’re giving away 2/3 outs per game.

  58. dan l March 22nd, 2014 at 10:52 am

Blake you’re acting like an idiot with your thinking on Drew…he would not be a better fielder at third over Johnson. Kelly came up as a SS so stop this Drew is better then everyone the Yankees have because he isn’t! Your obsession over him is ridiculous!

Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword….wait there’s even more Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin
