If Sizemore stays healthy (big IF) I can see him as the comeback player of the year.

    Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1
Pettitte said his son Josh, who #Yankees drafted, but he went to Baylor, blew out elbow and needed TJ surgery

Looks like a good Yankee line up to me. Hope we have a great year with very few injuries!

Lots of new names around here, lots of recognizable attitudes and intentions.

  7. UnKnown March 31st, 2014 at 4:42 pm

Took longer than I thought for Grady to be accused of roids.

I mean I hate the Sox as much as anyone but defaulting to the same TIRED AND PLAYED OUT excuses is really childish. Basically like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum. It’s just sad…

  8. Shame Spencer March 31st, 2014 at 4:43 pm

@Buster_ESPN Jose Reyes leaves the Jays’ game in the first inning. Wow.

Chip, on Duncan, from the article at espn.com

“Today, at 29, he is a volunteer baseball coach at Seton Hall University, where he is in his sophomore year as a political science major. He never took a swing in the big leagues.”

  31. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 31st, 2014 at 5:23 pm

Hey, I think we have a pretty sweet lineup 1-7 with the potential for it to be pretty sweet 1-8. That’s not bad!

  32. Poetkiosk March 31st, 2014 at 5:23 pm

Holy smokes did the mighty Ortiz ground out to first? That can’t be right since his is the face of baseball and the next coming.

    good afternoon all.

I’m Mooresville, NC this week; its about 75 and sunny… it FEELS like baseball weather for the first time this year! Hard not to be excited about the upcoming season

  39. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 31st, 2014 at 5:27 pm

Poetkiosk – it’s always a fine time when the chowdaheads get hurt.

    :D

  40. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 31st, 2014 at 5:28 pm

I mean hurt, score-wise, not physically.

  41. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 31st, 2014 at 5:29 pm

And then there’s always the danger of pinning the tail on the wrong person. I’ve done it myself. No glory in that.

In NYC after a long, cold, rainy weekend it’s mid 50′s and sunny here. I know the Yankees aren’t playing here but it just feels right somehow that we get decent weather on opening day.

  43. chicken_stanley March 31st, 2014 at 5:31 pm

Patrick – hope the weather continues to cooperate… you guys deserve it after the winter you’ve had

  51. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 31st, 2014 at 5:38 pm

yeah. The Yankees threw out some scary bad lineups at times last year

  53. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 31st, 2014 at 5:40 pm

chicken, thanks. Look at them with Britton and Matusz both in the pen. That’s pretty damned impressive! Bet they rue the day they traded Uehara.

  54. PacoDooley March 31st, 2014 at 5:41 pm

Why pay Gardner so much money and view him as a major cog and bat him 7th? Obviously a team basing decisions on logic would bat him 2nd and move Jeter down to the bottom third, but logic never really enters thatd ecision

p.s., looks like Cliff Lee has given up a season’s worth of ERs today.

  55. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 31st, 2014 at 5:41 pm

Good for Buck. I was just thinking that it’s early in the season, but I’m happy he came out with the hook. Every game counts.

  56. trisha - true pinstriped blue March 31st, 2014 at 5:42 pm

Paco – I think it’s a wise decision based on the players they have in the lineup. I don’t think it makes sense to have three table setters at the top of the lineup.

  57. pete2 March 31st, 2014 at 5:43 pm

Meeks threw 4 strikes to Boegarts and only got 1 of them called.

I have to voice my love for your kindness supporting visitors who should have assistance with this one concept. Your personal commitment to passing the solution around ended up being particularly insightful and has always allowed workers like me to realize their aims. Your interesting advice can mean so much a person like me and a whole lot more to my peers. Warm regards; from each one of us.
